Okay everyone I thought it was about time to start this thread for the 2012 race. With only 193 days until the gun goes off on the 19th May 2012 its on my mind who else is jumping on this pain train.

Not sure if it is a faulty link but that takes me to the 2011 thread which has over 20 pages and appear to be off topic from 2012 TNF.

You are correct that it is titled 2011 and there is plenty off topic (nothing unusual there) but go back 1 page (page 20) and there are loads of recent comments about TNF 2012 so you may want to read them at least.

Since the race is in 2012, this would probably be a better thread to discuss 2012 race on.

Wallet nearly bonked, but in recovery so I'm in.
Now to get that 17hr 1 minute 27 second monkey off my back ( how to take off 1 sec/1 km)

Just entered. First time for me.

Looked for the slow-old-men-with-beards category in the self-seeding list but couldn't see it.

I'm in, number 246. Had the race of my life in 2011 with 13:06. Hopefully I can bring that down into the 12 for 2012.

And I think this is another "me too". Have run a 50mile before but that was when I was doing quite a bit more running that I have been recently. But at least we've got quite a few months to prepare for this one.

Ultra168 hit the trails with Ryan Sandes

Ponkey, Beaver and DJB were lucky enough to catch up with last years 3rd place athlete South African Ryan Sandes and to get an insight into his plans for 2012 and his return to this race. It is awesome to see a worldclass athlete return where he hopes to do some serious damage to the already impressive course record.

I wish this Ryan Sandes beat the record of Killian Jornet. It's about time. Besides, I, for one, am getting bored with Killian anyway. I wish him good luck. I wish I was Killian.  :Just Kidding:

939 listed entrants on the link they provide so far and event registration website still seems to be open to take more.

Well I was shocked I got in...

Accommodation is settled, now just have to make a start on the mandatory gear.

I read somewhere that you can get most of the stuff at Anaconda, would you guys say that's accurate?

Lots of previous discussion/hints on the TNF100 website amongst the threads. Do the research then shop around for the lightest/cheapest/best quality.
My purchases last year were a combination of Katmandu, Mountain Design, Anaconda, Northside Runners & Bunnings (for the safety vest) -
Backpack is probably the most critical item as there is a lot of gear to fit in.
A decent headtorch is a close second (presuming you're not finishing before dusk  :) ).
Happy Shopping!

Up to now I've been a contented running luddite: no garmin, no compression gear, no expensive shoes. My RaceReady shorts with pockets were probably the most high-tech bit of gear I owned. Then I entered this race and find myself transformed into a complete gear-freak, spending hours obsessing about headlamps, waist lamps, other lamps, hydration packs, hand-held bottles...  It's like a virus.

On the link in the TNF100 'official' facebook site - also has seperate link to 48 teams.

I assume they will put the link on the tnf100 web page same as last year once entries have closed.

Running the 100km with bib #74.  Stepping up from 54km leg in 2009, and will be following on from Cradle Mountain in February and Melbourne Oxfam in April.  Should be a hoot.

Running the 100km with bib #74.  Stepping up from 54km leg in 2009, and will be following on from Cradle Mountain in February and Melbourne Oxfam in April.  Should be a hoot.

You'll do well over this terrain, especially after your cracking Cradle Mountain run this year. Best of luck for next February too!
Don't expect much technical trail in Melb Oxfam TW ~ the Sydney brigade laugh at us calling it a 'trail' race  ...
Cheers, Mal

Up to now I've been a contented running luddite: no garmin, no compression gear, no expensive shoes. My RaceReady shorts with pockets were probably the most high-tech bit of gear I owned. Then I entered this race and find myself transformed into a complete gear-freak, spending hours obsessing about headlamps, waist lamps, other lamps, hydration packs, hand-held bottles...  It's like a virus.

Funny....and so true
I used to be glad I didn't do triathlons with all the bike costs, etc. but TNF and the mand. gear....once you buy the almost best gear then find out there's better; buy that.....you could've bought yourself a decent 'Specialized'... :)
