I reset the most users ever online figure, I guess I just don't believe there were over a thousand - usually its 200-300 on a normal working day.

The recent craziness (currently showing 2500 active in the last hour) is garbage I am quite sure. I suspect a lot of "bots" trying to register, spam us etc.

I found out how to "fingerprint" bots and spiders and have them removed from the online stats. I then reset the max online so that it now shows the 545 in the last hour, which is the new "record". I feel comfortable that its a proper number now. still quite large.

what's the go with these bots, is it some lunatic in russia just trying to ruin websites for the fun or is it some underhand attempt at fraud or something. I can't understand it...

Gronk - I agree - total garbage. I put it down to all the loser spammers and botters clogging up the 'net with crap.
