Note from John Ellis, a previous PMC'er:

Quote

Thought I would drop you a line that I'd be doing the PMC again this year. Probably a bit underdone like last year but really looking forward to it! Btw, is there any chance of a lift up to Gosford, even from Ryde, if you know someone who's got room?

Can anyone offer him a lift ?

Hi
Altered route for the run no fences only road barriers

After running under the Sydney Newcastle Expressway you proceed straight through the roundabout at Wiseman’s Ferry Rd (Gindurra Rd becomes Somersby Falls Rd) and turn left at the next roundabout at Pile Rd there are no Street Signs only a Reptile Park sign, on the left is a large cleared block, at the end of the Pile Rd turn right onto the Pacific Hwy
When you come to the blocked section of the Pacific Hwy run on the left side of the road don’t run on the right side, at the southern end cross the barriers on the right side

If anyone is starting early please post your intentions

The distance will still be the same have a good run
All the best
Lou

The 2nd road closure is about 100m south of the reptile park and I think you can just hop around the crash barriers. The road is closed for 50m tops.

And  hope the road doesn't collapse while you are running on it. Maybe its closed for a good reason.

Can I confirm 100% that race starts at 7am.

I know the website says 7am. I don't know why but was under the impression that it started at 7:30 so people could catch the train that arrived in Gosford at 7:13.

My plan is to drive to Cowan, catch the train to Gosford and run back to the car (45k).

Will there be any spectators at the start willing to hold onto a jumper for me, so I don't need to freeze on the train/start line?

I know the website says 7am.

?? c'mon the website is god. it starts at 7am (but fat asses are often late though .....)

am assuming that traffic is way too heavy but a few 60kg runners won't make a skerrick of difference.

I can take your jumper from the start and put it by your car at cowan if you tell me which one

I am not running, have had bronchitus all week and on anti-biotics, so running would be a bad thing.

Hi
The alternate route Plan B takes you to Gosford Quarries as is shown on the latest Street directory not on early ones
West Track the caterpillar Dealer a heavy earth moving firm has a major yard between the two road blocks
My brothers B double has a gross weight of 100 tonne’s the normal legal weight is about 60 tonne’s I would not recommend driving his on the road it may not support heavy vehicles
If you are running in the dark or the area is foggy you could twist an ankle if running on the right side of the road the suspect area is not marked

All the best

Just take 2/3rds the amount of steps as everyone else.

Good luck to all those running tomorrow. Hopefully all is well once you get out the on the roads.

I am taking Milov from CBD and picking up Graham Wye at Chatswood so
room for 1 more if needed

I'd love a ride from the city otherwise I'll be on the 4:45am train.
If you still have a free spot, please email the pickup location and your mobile # to rawaussieathlete@gmail.com
Then I'll give you a call tonight to confirm.
Is it still a 5:30am pickup in the CBD?

OMG!  :p

I just looked at the map and course notes... here I was expecting a face in the right direction and run in a straight line road race.... this is a little bit more complicated than I had expected.

If you know where you are going and you are running near my pace expect me to stick like superglue

My plan is to be the backmarker and thus be able to follow everyone else. I have a pair of binoculars packed in my backpack for this express purpose.

Incidentally, if anyone else is on the 4:45am train from Central, please say hello however dont use up all of my good conversation as I will need to ration it over the course of the morning/day/evening.

cheers,
Anth

What about 10mm rain,is that a lot?

What sort of rain protection will you be wearing?

I cannot see myself out on the bike today.  It might be a bit dangerous.  I will do some strategic drives during the day and hope to catch a few runners going for a run around the block.

Good luck to everyone. Am looking forward to reading the reports.

As I sit here typing, the rain is hitting my window coming sideways. For those of you that make 96k's into this rain and headwind  - you desreve a medal - even if it is fat ass.

Good luck!

Kev thank for the photo. Congratulations to all those who started. If I had planned to start I would have has serious seconds thoughts with the storms, wind etc in Sydney last night.

A long sleep in a warm bed at that time sounded very attractive - and it was!!! :p

However another part of me would have enjoyed the challenge and that hot shower at the end would have just been heaven maybe even greater than the sleep in.

Louie da fly has been following them all the way. Ted West from Berowra was keeping the berowra Trailwalker team together ! I just went out to see them coming past pie in the sky, cowan and into Berowra. Apparently it is milov making a dash fro the city in 1st place, lets hope he knows where he is going. No DNFs so far!

On behalf of Plu on course at Turramurra.

Milov and Brick now together at Turramurra approx 70km at 2:18pm

Barney (Chris Graham) now only +3min behind.

Another Trail walker runner +22mim

John ? + another guy at +37min

Trax pulled out at about 48km

OtherTW runner (also john?) pulled out Bobbin Head

Graham Wye at Bobbin Head Mt Colah 2pm, waiting for him now.

Another runner behind him, looking after himself.

At mt Colah milov had had a 1km lead on Brick, which now been pegged back and Barney further 20min at that stage, now only 3min behind, so catching quickly back . Barney is a 4hr 6ft runner, so money seems on him at this stage.

The TW runners were together until Bobbin H , now decided to split up.

Thanks Colin for the update.

Now let me see just after 2 at Turramurra so - that was almost 2 hours ago - my guess is that by now they would be around Chatswood and getting into St Leonards. They should be getting glimpses of the city, through the rain :p

There maybe one first to the Opera House but they are all winners for todays effort.

Well done all!

Still wanting to get my long run in, I headed out when the rain seemed to be clearing up. Maybe it was carma because it then started to pour down. The whole run was on again/off again rain and when exposed to the wind it was really cold. After 2.5 hours I was drained, buggered and cold. Can't imagine what it would be like after 10 hours - especially as it starts to get dark.

Hope you all enjoy your warm shower/bath!

A small foot note to the day's activities was that Jan Herrman decided it was too wet to run, not a good show of gumption for his upcoming badwater attempt !

Here are the photos.

Posted Image

Reverse order seems to be the norm with the uploading. So the first photos are along Bobbin Head Road and the earlier photos are 300m from the Bobbin Head turn off at Mt Colah.

Just view them from the last page if you want to see the order of runners.

Update: while we are waiting for the results

Hi all,

Got up late today.  It was a very unpleasant day outside and I decided not to take the bike out along the course and at midday I went to the shops and brought some goodies for the runners doing the PMC 2007.

It is amazing how these runners and their bodies can run a predictable pace.  I estimated they would be between Berowra and Mt Colah turnoff. I saw Milov and a km later Brick at around Mr Kurringai.  I could not turn around till almost Berowra when I did I managed to get to 300m from the Bobbin Head turn off and quickly opened the boot in time to give Milov some food.  I forgot to take a photo of him so I then decided later I had to go towards Turramurra to get a shot of him. I stayed in this  spot for 90 minutes waiting for the runners to come through.  It was pouring most of the time and before long I was soaked.

Posted Image

About 20 minutes after Milov and Brick the Trailwalker runners came through as a group including Barney,   then ten minutes later John and Innes followed  by Graham W about half an hour later looking remarkably dry.  It was  2:00pm. He had stopped in a servo and dried himself with a hand dryer.  I rang Kevin to see where the last runner was and he said he was a bit  further back and when he saw him he was quite self contained.  I was sorry I did not get to see him.

It was now an hour since the leaders had been through so I headed off to Turramurra  and gambled a left hand turn into Bobbin Head Road hoping they were still coming out of the park.  I was getting nervous and then just in front of the Golf Course I saw Milov.  He crossed over got a few provisions and headed off and I looked up and there was Brick.  He had made up a km or  so. It was now 2:18.  You can see in the photos how close they are to each other.  I jumped back in the car to the exit of the park and there was Barney only 3 minutes behind.  It was 2:21pm  and I quickly stopped to see if he needed anything, took another photo and he powered on.

I now drove  to near the exit of the park and Louis and Thrax joined me ( they were with me at Mt Colah as well) and I thought I left my camera case on the roof of the car after Barneys photo and was about to get it when I found it in the car.  At 2:40pm  a second of the Trailwalker  runners came through and it seemed the two others  had pulled out.  At 2:55pm  John Ellis came through and a minute later Innes - they had reversed order since Mt Colah but there was not much in it. So now at 70km  there was 35 minutes between the runners except for Graham W and the last runner.   By this stage it was absolutely pouring and I was just standing on the road listening to the Continuous Calll Team on my radio in the boot of the car.  A couple of retired couples stopped to talk to me about what I was doing.  And in an area where there is usually heaps of cyclists I only saw one. Around this time I rang Colin to put an update on Cool Running. He was about to go for a ride.

At about 3:30pm Graham W came through.  He almost pulled out here but after some chocolate he came good and I said I would meet him at the Pacific Highway turn off.  On the way through I saw Innes and he had had a 10 minute break and I parked in the rain and assumed my normal position leaning on the boot listening to the radio under the boot. Graham got to me by 4:30 and he said he felt better and after stocking up on provisions I saw him heading down the Pacific Highway with the aim of going to Chatswood and then home.

Well that is my day.  Now I just need to know the results.

cheers  Plu

Ran as far as Boundary and Archer Street, Chatsood (83.2km) and than faced the choice of running 12km to the Opera House or running 10.5km home – I chose the latter. I arrived home (approx 93.7km in 11:40). Although I didn't reach the finish line, very happy to get back home sooner! Much slower first half than last time I did this but finished much stronger - not much walking from Bobbin Head Road onwards. At the end I felt as though I could have gone a lot further.

Many thanks to Plu, Louie and Kevin for the great support along the way – particularly Plu - if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have got that far.

Hey All,

Just a quick post... what a wet day! A bit windy at times too. Thanks to Innes and Cowen (?) for the lift up. Thanks to Louie and Plu for the support on route. Thanks to all those who stopped me from getting lost (yet I still managed an extra loop around Roseville). And thanks too to Brick for staying on my tail the whole day and making me run faster  :p

PMC time: 9:32 and very happy with it :p

Brick finished in 9:49 and  then had a 2:30 hour trip home on a bus and train.

Under normal circumstances he could have run the 21 km from the Opera House in 1:30 :p

Kudos to everyone who started today. Unbelievable efforts from all and sundry, and especially from Plu for his continued dedicated which is above and beyond the call of duty.

funnily enough I ran into John at a friends 30th last night and he was full of energy, bloody amazing. Especially as he told me that he had only run about 12k in the last few months...
