Anyone else running the 12.6k at Port Stevens on Saturday 11th. Apparently this is a new event and sounds great.

Yep,KEG,I am running, even though I accept that the extra 2.5Km over my usual 10K race distance limit will test me.
I always enjoy Paul's events in the Hunter Valley area.
For all those 70+ racers he always puts a category section in for you so get out there and enjoy what should be an interestingly varied course in the lovely Shoal Bay/Nelson Bay area at Port Stephens.
Also a chance to watch and encourage the concurrent Triathlon event athletes. :yahoo:

I am going to go in this one. I went to shoal bay on Australia day to have a quick look at the start. Sand was fairly hard which is good. I think this run should be nice. Not sure about the extra 2.5km but will see how it goes i guess.

Hopefully we get a nice cool day. I did some running this afternoon and man it was hot! At least won't have far to go to get some water.

Does anyone know what distance the run (of the multi-sport) was last year? Looking at the times no one finished under 1 hour. Is it the same as last years leg? or is it completely different. Good luck to those people doing the multi.

I'm in - I wanted to get away to Nelsons Bay for a weekend and this just 'happened' to coincide!
Does anyone know how much of it's on sand?

I'd really like to do this one as my parent's live @ Corlette right near the turn around, but I don't think I'll be able to make it though  :angry2:

Somewhere on the race web site it said that the first 800m is on sand.I suppose that this means that the last 800m may be on sand as well?
I would not expect the course to be especially fast, probably a fair few of the bayside paths could be softish. But it is a lovely area and I intend to enjoy its beauty.
Have a nice weekend and enjoyable race. :D

Im in ......its pouring rain here at present & if it keeps up it may be muddy on the dirt run....does anyone thinks it worthwhile wearing those plastic shoe protector sleeves over your instep to prevent sand getting into your shoe for the beach run...the start of the run is 800m of sand & if you get sand in your shoes its going to be very uncomfortable for the next 11+ kms .....

I just went to enter, and the event website says it's $40 but the registration page says $45. Did everyone else get the same thing?

Mine was $40 and when I do it again now, it still says $20 for child $40 for adult.

Would anyone be heading up to this from Medowie? My car is being used by the other half next weekend in the morning, so would be keen to get a lift to the race. Happy to put some cash towards fuel to get me there :-) I should be able to find my own way back.

P.S. I am not a crazy person!

Had to get up early to get there from Sydney.Very interesting run. Varying surfaces-sand,grass, bike track. walking track. dirt, bush track.Great views of Port Stevens along the way. Small field run- only 126 runners but hopefully will grow when word spreads about the run. The sand at the start was hard- very soft and sloping. As the heaviest runner I sink down the most. Decided to run back on the sand on the waters edge but shoes arent suitable and I was running on the edge of my feet.Came off the sand in last position but passed 12 runners on the out leg and another 2 on the return.Congratulatios Whippet Gal on a great win.You werent far behind first male.Had to return home straight away to take Mini keg to swimming lessons Posted Image

ripper weekend! stayed at the resort and spa friday and saturday night.. great temp for the run.. which turned into a beautiful day, delicious food, cold beers, great company... couldnt be happier (excpet maybe if my time was a little faster!)
the 2nd trot on the sand was pretty killer.. was pretty happy to not do my ankles on it!

was a great day.... I got to meet The Keg & Jim..... sand was a killer especially on the run home & that last hill was a bit testy. I definitely think that this event will grow in popularity. A big thank you to Paul & Hanne Humphreys...they run great events & its always well organised. Looking forward to the Port Half & H2H.

Yes,quite a toughie. I found the two beach sections the hardest while the path hill sections were also demanding, they always seem longer going up than coming back down. Good runs by CR's Whippet Gal and Jason R. Third place in open overall for the lady and 2nd in his well contested age category for Jason. It was good to meet up with fellow CR's The Keg and Hoary. I too think that the race will grow in popularity being mainly off road with walking paths, grass and beach overall a softish surface. But not a fast time course,so come and enjoy the locale. Congrats to Paul and his merry band once again for another local race covering all age groups. What would we do without you blokes and gals?
