Fats Festive Fatass 201028th December 2010 5:30am

For those that have not had the pleasure of this run before here is a brief outline.
We start at the corner of payne rd and dillon rd the gap (brisbane) at 5 am.
The run is either a 24km one way trip or the 48 km return trip.
Last year we had around 8 or 9 do the out and back, with a strong interest again this year.
there is the option of a 2 person relay, with a up hill run 1st leg then drive the team mates car to start whilst 2nd runner runs back to start.
Of course you can start with the big group, and turn around when you feel ready and head back to the start.
The course is all off road on wide runnable fire trails, climbing up approx 400metres to the top off mnt nebo.
Being a fatass run it is all self supported so water bottles camleback are a must.
The one way trip up takes between 1:40 to 2:30, with most runners stopping to chill out at the mnt nebo store with a coffee and a feed.
After 7 consecative years there will be no fats present this year (family duties)
You will be in safe hands however, with some very experienced guides lined up.
Have fun, and enjoy the day.
cheers fats

Yes day.
Got lost on the way back down the hill, did a lot of extra miles, got caught in the storm that went through and generally had FUN!
Aiming to be back again this year.
cheers

Kelvin is also a perennial starter. Having speed but no sense of direction at all he's probably your best bet for a long run.

And I thought that it wasn't a public holiday, as both Xmas and Boxing days are on the weekend, they only give us the one.

BTW, don't underestimate your water needs. Unless its bucketing down, you'll be thirsty. Carry a heap of water and prepare to top up at Nebo.

i'm looking at being a first timer for this one & seeing the other side of Mt Nebo Rd. it looks like a steady climb & faster run back.

Have you had a bit too much Christmas Cheer? Then there is no better way to return to your pre-festive shape than Fats Festive Fatass. Unfortunately Fats will not be providing us with his charming company this year, but don’t let that stop your annual pilgrimage up to Mt Nebo!
What: A Self-sufficient social run up to Mt Nebo from The Gap. Refreshments will be available for purchase from Cafe Boombana at the top.
When: 28th of December 2010 at 5:15am for a 5:30am start.
Where: Start from the corner of Payne Rd and Dillon Rd, The Gap. (Map)
How:Junior Dash: Head up to Mt Nebo and turn back whenever it suits you.
Party Poopers Option: About 24Km to the top and then car pool, or get a lift back to the start. Email me with your details and if you would like a lift or could offer a lift to other runners.
Full Monty: The return journey is a tough 47 Km, so please be prepared!
Who: For more details or to organize a lift to the bottom email Mandy.
Have a merry Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all!
Mandy

I'll be there. It's always bound to be hot and humid, so take along plenty to drink.

Thanks RBR,
I called Boombana last week and obviously they have had a change of heart, as they have decided to open for the public holidays between Christmas and New Year, which includes the 28th of December.
Good to hear you're coming along.

Thanks Kato,
Glad your coming and that you found the other thread. Niether Greg or I could find it which was why I started a new one. I will try to combine them to prevent any confusion.
Also note that the START TIME is 5:15 for 5:30 (that's for everyone not just Kelvin

I'll be at the start by motorbike but willing to take someone's car to the top and do a shorter run to meet you all. This will suit someone who wants to do the one-way option. Give me a call at home 3869 1661 if this suits you.

I thought it would be all up & then all down.. NAH dont be fooled by this.. Its the same each way.. But bloody awesome too..
Im keen for the return journey but may be a bit slow as just returning from injury.. But is all comin together ok at thios stage.. Just slow & unfit..

P.S. Don't be fooled by Deb's use of the term "slow" in the above post - Deb's "slow" and the general understanding of the term "slow" do not necessarily match up

Hi HF,
There will be quote a few doing the return (including myself) and there is at least one other relay team so you should have plenty of company on the trail. I will look forward to meeting you both on the day.
Cheers

I will be thinking of you all, as i take the easy option of a gentle trot somewhere in the outback!!!
Have fun all.
Oh and it is a tradition, that somebody always ends up lost and needs rescuing, so with that in mind mobiles may be handy, and exchange a few numbers before setting off.
good luck

Thanks Fats! you will be missed on the day...
A good point about people getting lost, given that this is a fatass run there will be no trail markings however the course is easy to follow. Before we set out I will give everyone my mobile number, especially to those who decide to crack-on at their own pace. Please ring or txt me if you are unsure whether you are still on course. Also note that it has been my experience that Telstra has superior network coverage in that area.
We are expecting a good turn out this year and for those of you who wish to only run the Party Poopers Option there will be lots of lifts available back to the start. There will also be a couple of Party Pooper Relay Teams with the second runner driving to the top to do the down hill run and the first runner returning the car to the bottom.
If you have any questions drop a line to my email.
Merry Christmas and see you all on the 28th of December
Mandy

I have a 1kg bag of mixed lollies that i am off loading on the run as i soooooooooooooooooooooooooo need to get them out of the house.. hehe.. So please take some of them off my hands early in the peace so i dont have to lug them all the way up to the top..
Now i am so not kidding about the SLOW thingy just ask Warren.. So i will be taking it very easy as i really want to survive the up & back but since Fats is not going to be there to rescue me like in 2008 i am a little concerned..
The saying we love to use is There is no shame in walking.. There will be a LOT of that going on on Tues.. hehe..
See you all Tues.. Will be a fun day...

Nah!
