Thanks everyone for a great morning! The cloud cover provided some relief from the sun which was good, but still a stinking hot one.

When I reached the lagoon, I was still feeling pretty good and also realised that if I ran just another 3.5k further, that would make 21km one way so I ended up doing the full 42k. I took a few opportunities to walk on the way back, since it was getting even hotter and muggier, but interestingly finished just 6mins behind my pb so that's encouraging. I really should have put some sunscreen on in the morning though  :fool:

Anyway, I'm already looking forward to the next training run - do we have a date yet?

MUN.

you must of been buggered after that long run. it was just steaming up by the time the first group finished. next training run either 20th or 27th Feb. doesn't look like they clash with anything. hoping to get back their next Sunday to measure the second half of the marathon starting from the half marathon turn around point. if i can join you and/or yochris77 on this run for directions it would be much appreciated. We could meet at Woody point jetty?

cheers

Ditto.  Had a nice cool swim at the lagoon followed by coffee and pancakes (what all the high performance athletes refuel with).

Nice to meet everybody.

MUN - how far did you get?

I got to Scarborough beach which made it the full 42k by the time I'd got back to the start. The first half (running with you guys) was much more pleasant!

What a great run, thanks everyone for turning up! Thanks Bilby for the lift back to my car, would have been an awful slow and lonely run back over the bridge and coffee always tastes best after a run.
Love to join you guys Sunday for the 2nd half of the Marathon if you let me know where and when.
See you all next time (or at Bunyaville!)

Sounds good! I'm due for around 28k this Sunday so it'll be great to have someone to run with (even if it's for part of the way). Say, 6am at the jetty?

might as well. Sunday 20th, 6am start Shorncliffe pier. As discussed on last weeks run, we'll keep this run going throughout the year.

not each Sunday for me, just a casual run or when anyone feels like a run. Do you want to run each Sunday?

Ah ok. I'd love to meet each Sunday but I wouldn't want to over-commit myself (I haven't even been able to make it to Bunya for a few weeks now!). But yes, I think we should try and make it a semi-regular thing. I think everyone seems to enjoy the run and it'll be even nicer when it starts cooling down a bit.

I like the idea of a regular long run with company. We can do it on a week by week base and if lots of us are away, we just cancel it and do our own thing that Sunday.
Looking forward to this Sunday. My legs were pretty trashed after the last two, so hopefully they are getting used to it by now!

I can't make it this weekend but I will keep an eye on this thread for the next run date. I'll be enjoying a run up here and looking forward to my after run swim at the beach, on what looks to be a very hot day.

Enjoy the lagoon and hopefully I can get down for the next run

Have a good run tomorrow,I have been suffering from achilles pain for a while now and after doing a very uncomfortable 8k today have decided to cut back and get some treatment for it.Its going to be hot again so dont forget to keep your fluids up, and have a nice swim.

what a glorious day running (23km) along the bay. Heat didn't hit us until last 1/4 of the run. i'll be hitting the trails & hills for the next few weeks & maybe able to get another run in before "cliff 2 cliff".

cheers

They say the run's that hurt the most, mean the most.  It was real hot and I was hurting for the last 5km.
Look forward to some cooler weather for running 21+. Hopefully we will be conditioned for the race if we keep
these runs up. Sleep well all  as I know I will..

It was hard for most of the way but I recovered surprisingly well - must mean these runs in the heat are working in one way or another. Looking forward to another long one sometime - Coast or Trail.
Can't make Bunya this week ;-( so see you next week.

with temperatures rising, it's nearly time to start our long runs again along Moreton or is it Morton Bay Posted Image A few options: start from Shorncliffe Pier like last time, Sandgate Pool or Redcliffe Lagoon so we can have a swim when finished.

I'd prefer Sandgate pool as it's easier parking, can have a swim at Redcliffe lagoon & another swim when we get back to the pool. So the long run may only be 25k.

Dates: Might as well start next week-end??

cheers

That all suits me very nicely! Due to sickness, I've been totally out of training so a shorter long run would be good. And next weekend is clear for me :)

Good thinking, rbr.

Sunday 23rd October 6am start at Sandgate Pool.

I'll be wearing my CR cap so anyone who wants to join us can at any point or turn back at any point. Plenty of taps & toilets along the way for those who haven't run this route before. Not much shade but course is flat & fast.Posted Image

Sounds good! Just outside the entrance? I seem to remember there's a carpark there which could be handy...

we should use the street carpark as i think the one just outside the entrance would be for pool users only. i'll be good for about 20k run i think/hope?

Hi meinmuk,

just however we feel, most runs are 5-6min/k pace but can be sub 5min/k pace towards the end. Coming into summer the heat can really hit you on the return leg & times will suffer. there will be no 4min/k pace unless you want to on the return.

cheers

Hi all

I won't be making the Mor_ton Bay runs this year.  A new jobs sees me finally settling down in Melbourne after 4 months travelling around the country (I leave Canberra, for Melbourne, tomorrow).

Enjoy the beautiful views and the great lagoon at the half way mark and hopefully I'll you join for a run and swim(sometime) if I make a dash back to the coast.

Had a great run this morning. 19ks the longest run for a while, felt the last 3kms as it was starting to get humid.
Spotted a dead kangaroo washed up at Brighton foreshore... Did you see that.RBR. Yeah I still have it...

Great. It looks like the family is all good with this, so I'm 90% there.

Oh I'm jealous! Was stuck in the downs from the 40th which was fantastic but I'll make the next one, assuming it is the 13th. The following week doesnt work for me...High social life you know!

Wildlife Winston, you can't claim that! It's almost as good as mine.. I saw a deadly eastern brown on the highway get run over. it was attacking as I stopped to take a better look but it was a gonna. sad really

No worries, I enjoyed it. It's a great track. The speed wasn't a problem for me. The first 13km were steady, and I was able to pick up for a quicker 10km to finish. Next time I'll have to run out the Shorncliffe jetty too.
I'll be back.
