Magic Mile

They are having a 'Magic Mile' challenge, pitting Team UK versus the Rest of the World. It is more about participation than actual competition, and involves logging your fastest mile between the 1st and 14th of August 2011. The runners age is taken in to account and the intent is to have fun.
The Rest of the World could do with some more entrants (your run the 1600m at your own time and pace and it is an honesty system with logging your time), so check out

I've registered for this too (user name tsvtrainer).
I ran a 10km time trial last weekend and came in at 53:11 and McMillan calculator puts my mile time at 7:23.
I'll probably run my mile after the Townsville Running Festival where I'm doing the 10 km and hope to beat 52:00, my current pb.

Below is the up to date list of planned Australian events. Great work by all involved in setting these events up.
04 Sep 2012 Byron Bay magic mile
06 Sep 2012 Centennial Park Magic Mile
09 Sep 2012 Mackay Queensland
09 Sep 2012 Gold Coast Running Centre Magic Mile
09 Sep 2012 Narrabeen Miler
10 Sep 2012 Maryville Magic Mile (Newcastle, NSW)
11 Sep 2012 Perth Lunch CBD Magic Mile
But remember you can run your mile on your own or with friends on a mapped out course. Would love to see some Athletics Clubs getting into it as well.
I'll be running the Sydney Marathon on 16th Sept so will be a nice little hit-out in taper week. Wonder if we could rig up a set mile as part of the Sydney Marathon/Half/Bridge Run (maybe over the Harbour Bridge), & get thousands of Aussie runners on the board for the Magic Mile...?!
Here is the outline of the scoring system. One of the main things we are focusing on is getting Team RoW's participation well over the 22.3% mark (currently on 25%).
Get involved & happy miling!

Now need to beat the practice time in next weeks event! Getting my running buddies to join, so hopefully will have some targets to aim for... maybe even will do a handicap system in which we all aim to finish around the same time...

Planning to do a proper timed mile this Saturday morning, then chase & hopefully better that time early next week & maybe once more on the last weekend (15/16 Sept) if it's still fun...!
Must have a look at McMillan to see what my recent race times "convert" to for a single mile....

Hey DaveRobbo - great work on UK Marathon Talk podcast 138, representing Newy, Australia & Team RoW...!! Also, well done on posting the RoW's fastest time (so far!) of 5:01, although it's not the highest age-grade %. Great result.
Well done kennedy07. Awesome result too. I bet it felt good....
Thanks for the gee-up guys, I appreciate the support....
I tried my first proper, timed, single mile this morning & did a pleasing 6:22. Was a bit tentative throughout & faded a little in the last 400m, but I know there's room for improvement. I did enjoy the experience too - it's over pretty quickly when you work through each 400m in around 90-95 seconds...
So I have logged it as a line in the sand to keep working on & better over the next week & a bit...
Go RoW...!
