Will join you guys on Monday 8 June! - A good prep for PMC
just need to work out exactly where you guys are and the exact time.

if that is sketchy, then Berowa Ferry might be it as its only an hours run from my place (or a 15 minutes public holiday traffic drive) Easier for me to wait there then in the middle of Brooklyn or brooklyn bridge.

Like before, i will bring camera and at least there's something to show your sponsors!!

You guys are nuts and I love to support people who make me look saner.

Newcastle to Sydney the way it should be done, on foot and dodging  leeches.

I would love to join you guys for a bit. Only thing is working out which section. Or really which section(s) I can bear to cut out.

I'll join in at 17.45 Monday with a few drinks at Circular Quay!
Should be back from Macleay River marathon by then.

I'll be there at some stage on day 3, and at circular quay. Someone has to be there to drive the exhausted mess that will be Beaver home at the end of this adventure (and provide some tlc too!) :LMAO:

I think this is a fantastic idea for a run, and have often thought over the years of doing something like this. Unfortunately my fitness wouldn't stand up to it, and neither would the missus if truth be told.

But please take copious notes so that others may follow in the future - be good to learn from your mistakes you.

Final schedule attached.

You will be able to track our progress by clicking on the following link:

SPOT Tracker - SPOT casting link

It will update our position every 10 minutes.

The current SPOT cast shows Ourimbahs drive to work this morning.

The last bit of GNW reconnaissance was done on Saturday with an out and back Hunters Hill to Lane Cove weir.

I met a local on the track and we chatted for a bit, she asked me whether I knew who was in charge of track maintenance?

I said to her that I think it's the Department of Lands.

She said she was going to give them a call to let them know that there was a tree down across the path just near Boronia Park Hunters Hill.

I told her to let them know of a few more that are down across the path between the Communications Tower at Heaton Gap and the Old Watagan Forestry Headquarters.  :yahoo:

3 more sleeps.

Shhhhhh.   that is part of the fun of the GNW - tree jumping out near the creek.

Well organised.  I will be out to cheer you on, probably Saturday somewhere up in the hills.

Good luck to Beaver and the team.

I will be following your progress and will try to make some of your crew stops to cheer you on.

There is a group of us training for TW on Monday from Brooklyn to Berowra so you may storm past us at some point.
Actually I've just checked your schedule, you are going through that section at 3am on Monday so you'll be long gone. :D

I have decided to start with the guys and run until I drop.
Should be at least a few km in.
Although Dutchie or was it Mr Dutchie put it in perspective for me and said so you are starting friday because you want to "see" that section of the track but you are starting at midnight and won't see much except your foot. Yep I said that's spot on.

Have checked out the schedule and it is aggressive but the guys are all keen as mustard and I can't wait to see them set a record on this one.

A couple of SPOT tracking changes but we will be all sorted by tommorrow.

Most likely update the link wednesday or thursday.

Gave it a good test today,it will work better on the trail going slower.
It will  give a good account of the route as well the elevation.

I have found a new toy..

As mentioned, I will be joining you on the last day. Ponkey too, has expressed interest in a nice short 30-40km run too.
We will coordinate and via SPOT tracker (which is becoming REALLY helpful), we can track where you are.

catch you boys at LCNP.

LCNP will only give you a 13km run of which 5.5km is on road.

You're better off coming and meeting us at Cowan / Berowra or Crosslands if you want to run 30km+.

So what is the record?

Where is the official start at the Newcastle end of the run?

Why is it finishing at the Opera House?

I am searching for some definitive parameters for possible future attempts.

Best of luck guys and gal.

Cheers, Blue Dog.  :D

The main track, 250 kilometres (160 mi) in length, runs between the Obelisk in Macquarie Place in Sydney to Queens Wharf Tower in Bicentennial Park in Newcastle.

We are starting at the Park in Newcastle - the official start of the GNW.

The obelisk in Macquarie Place is currently under restoration (covered in scaffolding and screened off), not really the nicest place to finish anyway.

Opera House Steps - seems fitting.

Happy to touch the obelisk in Macquarie place to record a time for future attempts.

I searched for some records today - best I can find is someone getting a leach in their ear on day 11 and some other guy who walked it with his wife in 14 days.

Have a great time out there, guys. And Bunny too, of course. It certainly will be a grand adventure.

Beaver, I wanted to hear all the gossip about this from you at NOSH but you were always just that bit far ahead. The best I could do was admire the cool shirt.

I'm certain the GNW has been run in its entirity before. I seem to recall Greg Love and Dave Girvan of Terrigal Trotter fame doing it a year or two after the track opened.

You softies.

From an earlier thread on CR quoting Peter Treseder's book:

Quote

He (Peter Treseder) started in Newcastle in May 1990, swam the Hawkesbury from Patonga to Brooklyn, then when he got to Woolwich he kayaked across the Harbour to Circular Quay, then walked up to Macquarie Place where the trail officially starts, elapsed time was 32.38. Apparently his run was documented by John Eggleston from the Lands Department, who would periodically turn up and photograph him on the run.

:D :)

The plan for me is to run from Midnight until the end of day 1 which is around 100km and hopefully not hold up these superstars. Having not run 100km now for 3 weeks it is overdue :D

Admittedly I am worried that I will have so much fun I will want to stay around longer but if it comes to that I can fight Terry for his tent, the loser gets to feed the leeches.

Me too, just been SMSing them while the get some supplies at Freemans.

Suggested that maybe they should have it in a better location as I thought it should record every 10 minutes.

They now have snuffaluffagus hill to look forward to. Great place to enjoy the sunrise. Wish I was there ...

hi Lou, Good to hear from you and just spoke to Andrew. he said they all had a good time with you.
I am glad you could join in the adventure

Latest Update - They are in 65km mark, with 5km into Congewai (did I spell it right?)
Trio (Andrew, Darrell , Terry) and Allison (ERB) are all on schedule up to the minute.

Physical status - All feeling good. Andrew still fresh, Darrell's back is holding up, Terry calfs are still as big and Allison is keeping the boys honest

Spot tracker wasn't working due to dense rain forest leaving newcastle but now it is live again!

More updates soon

They are a little ahead of schedule as they approach the 2 pm Congewai Crew Stop.
They have a nice day to start with, cool and sunny.
