I can't believe I didn't see this thread earlier.
I am interested in being apart of this one.
What are people doing in terms of going back, from melbourne after the run.
Will people be catching the train back? I will be driving from Lilydale, so will be leaving the car at frankston station.
sounds like it is going to be alot of fun
cheers

I am still in for this one. Plan to run 20km or so with you all somewhere in the middle, maybe from Mordi at about the 14-15km mark.
Timbo - Mile bridge is where the Nepean Hwy crosses over to run beside the beach; the old start line being where Overton St would cross if you ran a straight line through (check out Google and you'll see what I mean)

Staypuff - I hadn't thought of wearing 70's/80's gear - will have to see what I can find (husband's closet is usually a sure thing, as i sometimes think he is stuck in those decades).

I'm keen to join you on this one. I will meet up with you all at Mordi....and hopefully get through the 28 odd kms to the city. Haven't done much since Canberra but should be OK.
Cheers.

sorry for posting here my loud thinking about option, connections and transport
- it looked like I am definite,
but
due some feet structure issues and discussions with my fitness angel,
I am NOT doing long flat, but lots of hills instead, so it is to 1000 steps for a long weekend.
I wish everybody pleasant and safe run.

I wish my laptop would let me watch youtube without having to download add-ons. I'll check that vid out on another computer.
I'm just thinking, I might support you guys with water and stuff by bike. I guess if Mrs Wombat is driving, I could kinda link between the car and you guys with extra support every say 5km with drinks better than water, snakes etc. I guess if its a cold morning, you can wear extra layers and I can ride them back up to the car.
I should be studying.... but this is more interesting.............

Hang on - if you take your bike it leaves me with original plan of parking at Mentone; this leaves no one to ferry runners to frolm station to start line. Alternatively I could drive from Frankston - Mentone and then join the run. This then leaves us in the city without a large car to assist with anyone who needs to get back to Frankston (of course there's always our reliable and timely public transport system).
As my brain is MIA, perhaps someone should just tell me where to be/when/with or without car.

Bring as many layers as you want, they can always be dropped off into the car along the way. Need a change of gear? Drop of extra gear into the car. Should work smoothly....

Unless it is pi$$ing down rain on Sunday morning I plan to join at Mordi. Can I just check an estimated time. Frankston start around 9.15am (allowing for train to be late and a walk/jog down to the start line at Mile Bridge)?
Mordi is around 14km or so, planned pace is 4.15 (around 6min/km) so there by about 10.40am?
Sound about right?
Cheers, PB

I know I've kinda organised a bit of this, but I hope it doesn't disrupt many plans. I'll be at Frankston in the morning to help transport runners to the start line and I'll try get back to the city to help with lifts back.
Maryclaire let me know and I could drive you from Mentone to the start.
Hopefully I don't f**k up too many things....

Actually M12, you did organise a lot of this and pulling out at the last minute for another run (in my strong opinion) is very poor form.
However, everyone else, my wife will be dropping me off at Frankston and will be able to assist in transportation to 'mile bridge'. So with with Mrs Wooh's car this should be enough. Maryclaire, your generous offer of transport may not be needed and perhaps we can meet you at around the 1/2 way mark.
Rain or shine, I'll be there at 9 am
Cheers everyone, Michael.

Somehow I didn't register that this is the long weekend until leaving work last night (!? must be enjoying work too much), and I have a longstanding tradition of participating in the Rutherglen Winery Walkabout (in moderation of course
So after some last minute juggling, I did my long run today and am now headed for the country.
Hope everyone has a great run and the weather isn't too unkind!

I think we'll be fine for the early part MC-there's only 4 of us by your count so Mrs Wombat should be fine. We have water, bananas, lollies and gels on board so should be fine.
See you all at 9:00-or later depending on where you join us.
Happy Birthday by the way Maryclaire.

Thanks so much for the chance to run with you all from Mordialloc down to Brighton this morning. What a wonderful morning among like-minded folks. I hope you all made it safely to the finish. I know I started to get a bit light headed about 15-mins after I left you.
As Mary Claire would say, I entered the "no-talking" zone!
See you again soon.
Cheers, Paul :-)

I think I ran the least distance of everyone, so therefore am least qualified to comment. But I want to state that I am in awe of the 42.8k runners
I ran for 17.5km and as it was at a very easy pace (average 5:45/km), am feeling good this evening. I enjoyed the company the whole way and the lunch afterwards (esp the coffee).
A few thoughts for next time (!):
we need to somehow get photos as the runners finish;
this should definitely be done again, IMO;
and finally, I really like the idea that this is a GROUP run - no one gets left behind (despite splitting into 2 groups at the end, I think we succeeded in making it a group effort).
Finally, a HUGE thank you to Mrs Wombat who supported the entire distance, and then drove us back to our start points. This could not have been done without such support. Both Mrs W and WOOH were extremely generous in stocking the support vehicle with food and drink.

And who still has their finishers' T shirt from the original 1978 event?
"I finished the Big M Melbourne Marathon, sponsored by "Woodleigh Homes", who promptly went out of business six months later!!!
And wasn't it great to cross the line and be handed a container of chocolate milk? Most runners spat it straight back out!!
