It was great to meet Peekie and Staypuff. It was also great to see Wombat and catch up with G.T, the best chef this side of the black-stump.
Hey Wombat, how'd you and the Wombat family go at Mini-Golf???
Not as fast as I would have liked to have run, but hey, it's a Fun Run after all. The atmosphere during and after the run was terrific. The caravan park section was fun and the girl spraying the water (hope it was water) did a wonderful job.
Many thanks to the marshalls, volunteers and organisers of this great day. Happy Australia Day

I'm sure the run was scenic but I was focussed on the run a little much to notice!
Agree with other comments re organisation and volunteers. The girl in the caravan park with the spray bottle did a great job.
Loved the ill-fitting, baggy race t-shirt too. Classic stuff.
Look forward to next year's event...

Sadly no wombat. Was on track at 5k with 26:50 but it spiralled from there. Too quick and too hot. My tempo runs during training hadn't been quick enough for long enough either I believe so came in at 56:40.
Lesson learned though and I know what to do differently for next time and will be more confident as a result.

Perfect weather for the run, some fast times. Talking to a few people after the run and some of them ran some season bests.
Myself I was very happy, after 2 weeks into my training program building up to Melbourne Marathon, I ran a handy time, even though I have not started any speed sessions yet. All looks good for the year ahead.

The funniest thing about this run is when you run through the middle of the caravan park at 830 in the morning. People coming out of their caravans with their dressing gowns on their way to the shower-blocks think they're being invaded.
The smell of freshly cooked bacon and eggs (coming from the caravans) can be a bit of a turn-off when you're huffing and puffing, but still alot of fun.
The finish area is fantastic with a carnival type atmosphere. They have a many areas to sit and eat, fresh coffee and even a ride for the kids.
Highly recommended and heaps of fun for the family... (no, I don't work for the Mornington Peninsula council, organisers or sponsors)
I totally agree with you - this is my favourite run of the year - absolute flat course, often cool ocean breeze round Anthony's Nose, fun with kids through Caravan park- you forgot to mention they are often waiting to hose ya! too. Great family day but sun usually coming down hard so hat- and screen-up! Tommy Hafey was a gr8 speaker at the end a few yrs back. Never realised folk double back...?

I had no expectations of a PB today, just 'going for a run' but when I hit the first marker at '8km to go' and was under 10min, I thought I could possibly go for my 2009 sub 50min goal! Like M12 - no more markers until the '5km to go' so I was unsure of how I was going. (even though I'm sure at the start line they said markers as each km!??), but I was over by 1 min 15 sec - I felt that I hadn't changed my pace that dramatically, so I now don't think that first marker was that accurate (but I must admit I did start better than usual). Maybe thanks to Morley's advice after Williamstown - as a normally slow starter - I warmed up a bit more then usual.
Bit of a logistic nightmare running into the 6km walkers, however they were well trained and seem to keep to the left but it was fairly hard to pass any runners - it was single file (and I'm not using that as an excuse) but I seemed to slow slightly and didn't get back any kind of good speed/momentum until the last couple to kms. All told improved on my last 10km doing an even 52min.
Great to meet and chat with Peekie - I hope your Mt Martha swim went well - and a chat with the Wombat crew at the end. M12 - were where you? You obviously need some CR gear.
Next - not sure!

I think I ran past you... did you have a MM shirt on?...... around the start.
I think I saw Mrs Wombat along the way?? i say i think because i couldnt read the back of the cap properly.
I had no idea of the course and didn't realise it went off road.

Yep that was me. I had no idea of the course either but had a fair idea of the running through the caravan park bit and saw the orange cones throughout the foreshore on the way there, but the boardwalk was a surprise.
Good course though - I enjoyed it!. Does anyone know if they publish any offical results anywhere? I ended up staying for the presentation but that was as I was interested in the winning times but they didn't give out the times.

If you saw me I was the rounder woman struggling along at a steady slow pace wearing the CR cap. About 30-50m ahead of me you would have seen mad wombrat ( middlest) wearing her CR cap upside down with an Aussie flag as a cape probably picking up cute guys whilst jogging along without cracking a sweat ( ther are times I hat ethe young no training and no aches or pains... youth truly is wasted on the young) .
I had a great run for this event. I had run my first continuouse km here a year ago and this was a real test just to plod my way through. By my garmen the course measured 6.55km ( I measured 6.65 last year) and I took juast over 52 minutes ( last year I got in just under the hour) so all in all I found the run great. The wombat clan then went to point Leo for a BBQ and a play in the beach -- becoming an Aussie day tradition) and all in all ( not including the sun burn) had a fantastic Aussie Day. Basically all came home and had extended Nana naps all arvo so the house was peacful and exhausted.
This run sits firmly on my calendar for next year.
