With the registrations starting very soon I thought I’d get the ball rolling on that one since noone did already... Who is going and what is your goal time?

I'm hoping for a PB(sub 3h:34) or a sub 3:30 would be even better, but i'll be happy with whatever, as long if i can stay in good health until then. Am just recovery from a little annoying non-running induced injury which I think is finally out of the way after 2 weeks or rest/easy running. All good to start working hard in the summer heat! :o

Happy training  :)

I am aiming for this one, and hoping to do a PB which isn't hard. I want to break 4 hrs. I will keep the momentum going from 6 foot.

Definitely in as well for this one.  Aiming to beat my PB of 3.22 - depending on how I pull up after 6ft, maybe aim for 3.15... :o

Certainly this is the main focus for me in the first half of the year. I am not doing 6ft so that I can give it my best shot. However much too early to call a predicted time. However anything better than last year would be just acceptable - it means I maybe defying the onset of old age for another year but then again the last few Canberra marathons have had very soft times. Nothing near my sub 3 in 2002. :o

I'll be at Canberra for sure.

Did my first marathon at GC this year in 4:33:xx and my second at Melbourne in 4:16:xx so I'm now looking to go sub 4 hours.

My training program starts first week of January and already I'm excited.

Bring it on!

Halfway through last year's race, I remember swearing to myself that I would never do a marathon again. Now I'm counting down to 2007! Training program begins mid-Jan...including speedwork, which is something that I've definitely become slack in.
Main aim: to run in a more comfortable state than last time. Think I'll see a dietician to check out the source of my terrible cramping last year. But would love to do a 3:45.
Running Gal- which suburb are you in? and who do you train with? I'm yet to commit to a running club.

Moh - My last run was around 3.22 as well.  Likewise I am also aiming for 3.15 at Canberra in 2007.

See you there!

Does anyone know how old the youngest finisher of the 50km was?

MOH and RWS, my time at Melbourne this year was 3.22.  Last time I did Canberra I ran 3.32 and then 4.20 for the fifty.

I don't fancy that last eight kilometres after a 3.22 marathon, but I'm willing to add another page to the casenotes about my insanity. :o

I loved the way that the race book had every runners name in it so spectators could cheer you on by name as you struggled or flew along. :)

This will by my third Canberra and I am looking forward to it with great anticipation. Like Eagle, all the training I am doing from now on is with Canberra in mind and to beat last years time of 3:23. Something else that is motivating me is a little super-fit Clairie sitting on my shoulder reminding me of her sub 3:20 goal  :o .

Can’t help with 2006, but in 2005 the youngest finisher was Emily Lamrock, age 20, time for 50k was 4:40:26, finishing place 31. That's a coincidence on the age, isn't it?
She went through the marathon just ahead of Carol Baird at 3:32:01, but lost time on the final 8k. (as one does). :o

I would like to be on the sub 3 bus at least for the first k. I will have to see what happens in the next few months to see :

1) If I should join it at all: AND
2) If I join it how long I will stay on board.

The SMC runs in February and March will tell me if I should buy a ticket :o

Will  miss it next year but my thoughts will be with you guys.

I will instead be running the 56km Two Oceans on Easter Saturday 7th April , 30yrs after my first one, with the aim of a Silver, sub 4hrs, which is 3hr pace, but one needs to be in equivalent 2:50 shape (with the extra distance and difficulty of course-two 220m climbs from sea level).

So far, with a 82 min surprise half on the training thats not going as well as hoped, limited by niggling sciatica, the speed is there but getting the distance up from 50km/wk is going to be the hurdle.

This will be my major goal for 2007. Looking to shave 12 minutes or more from this year's time of 3:32:10.
Right on target with my training at present.  :o

Anyone else for the 3:20 bus?

I have already booked a hotel room for this one. I am planning to take 6 min off last years time (3:41) and the carry on for my debut 50k looking for around 4:15-4:20.

Given the times I have been setting of late with little training, I will be unstopable when I start training properly  :o

Cat Girl, Canberra is a much faster course than Sydney. No nasty surprises and a flat, easy finish - nothing like those killer last few Ks of Sydney. It's my favourite.

After a year off serious training I am looking to run a strong six foot and then might tackle Canberra with the eventual goal of peaking at Gold Coast.

Training is going really well so I would be aiming for sub 3 at Canberra...see you on that bus.

I'll be running. Hope to run a PB which is 2.59.36. I'm going to kick off long runs early January with the Striders. The first two Strider runs in Jan are killers so that should wake me from my 20-30K per week Summer slumber. :o

Reluctant to commit with absolute certainty due to a fear of "long stuff" but would like to do this for the purpose of potentially obtaining a good time.

There must be easier ways of obtaining a good time!

Twelve more days of slothness and then the big kick ass campaign comes out of the cupboard.

I am so keen to run a good one at Canberra that I will sacrifice all other running for this goal. I would really like to be able to do sub 3:20 but will need to wait until closer so I can see how all the training has gone.

Fingers crossed the injuries stay at bay, the cross training helps with strength and the running gets easier :o

I love the long runs in a marathon build up more than the event itself so am really looking forward to the next few months.

I am sort of thinking about doing the Canberra Marathon - it is my home town/childhood town so I have my parents there to watch me (I hope they would come anyway...).

If so, would HOPE to do sub 3:20.

Glad to hear you are gain focused on this one. Enjoy the last few days before the campaign starts. I agree with you - have an idea of what you would like to do then reasses again after most of the training has been done. Hopefully this year I will give you something to chase instead of me chasing you. Have a pleasant Chritsmas withteh family. :o

Hi Gronk,

A lot of runners stay at the Pygmie Palace. I am not sure what it is actually called but it is right at the start/finish line. So very handy indeed.

The other place of interest to us all is Rydges - just around the corner and the location of our After Party. yahh looking forward to it already.

Within spitting distance of the start.

A hint for accommodation...

Lastminute.com.au has Telopea Park Inn at a good price for the marathon weekend.

Last night I booked at Rydges Capital Hill, and paid $10 less than the so-called "marathon special rate" by just going to the best deals section on the Rydges website.

Thought I'd get in early this year cos I always leave it to the last minute and have to search for somewhere.

I will be tackling the marathon eve 10km again. Semi-retired from marathons due to some problems but hopeful of running a return marathon some time in the future. I will be staying at Pinnacle apartments as usual, along with many other runners. Price is reasonable, close to start & company of fellow runners great. Spa bath after the run is also a bonus.
