Coast-To-Kosciusko 2008
Coolrunner Weightloss Transformations
Depression
How Long To Sustainable 3Min Kms
Irks Thread
Is Cr Becoming Lame?
Number Twos / Poo
Ultra Grand Slam Plebiscite
Yurrebilla Trail, Gets The Green Light

Nominated Photos:
C2K mannequins
Ratdog in Mankini
Tonedbutts Son
Try as I might I can't find the number 2's thread or 2 of the photo's-if someone can post the links up I'll add them to this post.
Before anyone asks why I've put in an "abstain" option on some catagories and not others, it's quite simple.  Not everyone has done a marathon (or been a part of) for example, so it's not really fair to make them vote on the best one.  So I've left another option.  Where I haven't put in an Abstain, I figure that any regular CR should have an opinion on those subjects-or can research a little and find one.  When the poll closes I'll delete all those votes-they mean nothing.
As Spoonman sent me a PM explaining about how he couldn't get his nomination in although he tried on the closing date, I've added it.  Possibly it was after nominations closed but I decided to include it as it was still on the right day.  This is a one off-don't anyone else bother trying.

I did also remove dropbears 100th post thread as people still mention it to me as a low point in CR bully-boy behaviour and that is not in the spirit of things.

I would argue that the sustainable 3min kms thread falls into the same category

Ok-that's just disturbing.  I notice there's a few more in there too-the black and white one (not linked) is quite tasteful-and disturbing.  Anyone know which photo is the nominated one?

Had to vote for Blue Dog for most inspirational runner. You're my hero Blue. :D

Voted for a photo that I've never seen.

After reading about DB's 1000th post thread being nominated, I went and read it and without wanting to inflame anything it was one of the most boring threads I've ever read. It should have been removed from nomination because of that alone.

Thanks for putting the poll up wombatoutofhell.

Given only one running photo was nominated this year, some people may wish to abstain from voting on that section. Shouldn't that option be available?

If there isn't an abstain option for a category does that mean you have to vote in it to submit your voting post ?  If so, can we have abstain options on all of them please ?  As well as the photos there is at least one other category where I don't want to vote.

Actually, and this probably makes me both slack and a wowser, I find most of the favourite thread nominations disheartening.  I say slack because I failed to nominate threads that I found really wonderful to read in 2008 such as the GCM race reports.

I am of similar sentiment Slowmo. I should have nominated several of Buzzlightyear's C2K photos.

Probably would be the go to have abstain on all sections WOOH.

Slowmo, dont be disheartend by the thread nominations. I was going to start ranting to you how if you want a community you have to accept the odd controversy but i think I will just quote this to you:

A society that gets rid of all its troublemakers goes downhill
- Robert A. Heinlein

Sound familiar?

As far as community building for the future goes, the CR lame thread would have to be a foundation stone.

I agree it would have been good to see some more race/running threads though.

Yes, that's what I meant Colsy.

When I said 'wowser' I didn't mean I was disturbed by the threads that are in the category but that I felt sad that there was so little running content.  I should have worded my post more betterer.

Funny how the thread that upset so many PNG's is polling so well. Hooray for the silent majority! (those with a sense of humour).

This is an issue that is very close to my heart and I know it is very close to a hell of a lot of CR's out there as well.  I really don't think this issue should be even expressed in a public forum this way ... be it 'supposedly' in a light hearted fashion or not.

Evidence shows that a statement like this may potentially cause someone harm.

It will cause about as much harm as you tacitly labeling me 'insensitive.'  Simply, I'm not. Nor is this the correct forum for those requiring or undergoing professional help for mental health issues ..... a topic that has and does affect us all.

I think by that you mean CR shouldn't be someone's only port of call when they're seeking help for depression or whatever - if so, I couldn't agree more.  But in my experience I haven't noticed the thread being used in that way.  It goes all over the place but at its heart it's about how running and being part of the running community can help.  In that way I think it's possibly a lot more useful than other internet and face to face groups - for some of us anyway.

As to whether it should have been nominated for an award (a question in my own mind)...  well, even though I've spent a lot of time reading and contributing posts there I won't be voting for it.  It doesn't feel quite right to me to have it up there.

I disagree about the abstains.
To my mind, if you didn't like the nominations that were forthcoming (which you could have looked at over the last few weeks) you could have nominated something you liked more.  I put abstains where I did as some things have to be experienced to vote for-you can't vote for the best race if you don't do fun runs or races for example.  Likewise running shops-not everyone goes to a specialist.  Not everyone reads magazines either. I abstained from regional races as I've never done one.
Like a few of you, I'm dissapointed in the photo's nominated-last years were brilliant.  That's not to say this years are bad-I enjoyed them but I would have liked more and more running.  However, I also failed to nominate anything better-so I chose one of the 3.
Same with the favourite threads.  I did nominate one which I also voted for.  A non running thread as it happens.
With the athlete section, I decided that most coolrunners will know a little about some if not all of the nominees.  If not a quick read on Wikipedia would give enough background to do a vote.
With shoes and running accesories-I can't imagine anyone not being able to vote for something on those lists.
As for the community sections, all the nominees are well known members of Coolrunning.  If there's no one there you can vote for in any particular section, then maybe you shouldn't be voting.
If enough people ask I'll put abstain on the threads and photo's sections.  So far it's 4 out of the 79 who have voted.
Next year I will spell out how I intend to do the voting while nominations are still open.  Assuming I do it.  Then if people aren't happy with the nominations-tough luck.

WOOH, you can't please everyone all the time.  I think you have done an awesome job with this, and stated your reasons clearly and frankly.  If agree with you that if people want something that isn't there they whould have nominated it.  Well done. :D

this doesnt make sense.
there are sections people simply wont care about.
so they didnt nominate.
and wont want to vote.
so if they do it becomes a bit of a donkey system and belittles the choice of others who do care.
thanks again WOOH.

Yes, thanks for your work on putting the poll up WOOH......... arent you supposed to be at work?
I wasn't at work when I did this-I started when i got home at about 4:30 and opened the thread at about 5 minutes to midnight!  Obviously I stuffed around with other crap in the middle.  I have a life outside of coolrunning-there's facebook, a few other forums  and yahoo as well!

In this instance you clearly can.

Put an "Abstain" option on all of them and those who want to vote on that section can, those who would rather not (but wish to cast a vote on other sections) can exercise there options.

Agree with you UCB. I would like to vote to give some recognition to some performers throughout the year (CR best, inspirational categories), but to do so would have to donkey vote some of the others.

WOOH, I do think you've done a good job setting this up (congrats), I just think you've missed the implications of the abstinence issue.

I've taken the point about donkey voting on board and added abstain to threads and pics.  I've also set all the abstains back to 0 as I hate seeing them winning.
Technically a blog should be included in the Coolrunning running blog guide but I suspect it's well out of date and many people wouldn't even know it existed.  Something to work on before next year I guess.  Bellthorpe doesn't seem to be listed-but neither does Runbare, Ewoksta, StellaBella, South Australian or Fred.  Admin obviously turned a blind eye and so did I.
I can't find Bellthorpes blog either-but that doesn't matter.  Obviously 6 people read it.

Well UCB, that comment just scuttled any chance I had of being named CR Ambassador of the Year.  ;)

I was actually very surprised to be nominated for it actually. I'm not to be seen in CR garb and I'm not one of the people who contribute significant efforts to keep the CR beast alive and kicking.

I was a little befuddled to be nominated for Most Accomplished of the Year as well. Short of reasonable runs earlier in the year at GC 100km, Poor Man's Comrades and perhaps Hunter Valley Marathon, many of my performances have been on a scale from abyssmal to mediocre (Gold Coast Marathon, Caboolture 24 Hour, Korea 24 Hour, Italy 100km....).  ;)

lets see....

you had some good runs in the first half of the year
you are regularly to be seen at races and funruns
you are a race director for C2K
you are often seen at CR social events
you dont wear a CR shirt - but then you dont wear any shirt!
you are always helping and encouraging up-and-coming runners
you actively participate in the discussion forums

seems like you tick quite a few boxes

as for the CR gear - since you dont run in shirts, maybe you can go the shorts instead :D

Runbare - link in signature

SouthAustralian - link in signature
Fred? - link in profile
Bellthorpe - no link in signature or profile, no CR blog. Am I missing something here?

i am not sure why you guys see this as an issue.  To vote something as your favourite you must firstly know it exists.  if you do not know it exists then it is not your favourite so do not vote for it.  Life can be very simple if you let it.

although with that said it would be nice if everyone could enjoy the subtle humour of Bellthorpe's blog.

I was going to start ranting to you how if you want a community you have to accept the odd controversy but i think I will just quote this to you:

A society that gets rid of all its troublemakers goes downhill
- Robert A. Heinlein

That's a bit rich coming from someone who encouraged Admin to have people and procedures in place to "take care of the wankers".
