It actually shows no sign of charging. I tried resetting it but nothing.
I know you said you tried another adapter (and I assume USB clip), but have you tried via a computer USB port direct, not that it will probably make any difference, but worth a try as a last resort.
I noticed the change over
out of warranty repair pricefor the 405's in the US is USD$ 79.
No idea of what it is in AUS, you will need to contact Garmin AUS.
I haven't seen any 3rd party batteries out there for the 405 as yet, and we are not 100% sure of whether that is the problem or not anyway.
Added:
You may have seen this too on the Garmin site, but incase not try the following resets:
405 Reset procedures:
Soft Reset
Hold both mechanical buttons in until the screen goes blank (about 10-20 secs), then release.
You should not lose any data.
Hard Resets -
Warning data loss
Prompted - (you'll be asked to confirm the reset):
You will lose run and configuration data.
Hold both mechanical buttons down until the screen goes blank. Let up on the start/stop/enter(upper) button but keep the lap/reset/quit (lower) button depressed. You should see the prompt at that time.
Non-prompted - All data lost - your unit will be reset to factory specs:
Reset the unit (hold both buttons until the screen blanks) then briefly release the buttons and press them both back down again.
Wait for the unit to tone
Release the START/STOP button and wait for a second tone.
Once you hear the second tone, releasing the bottom button will clear the user data and restart the watch - as new.
The second one can be a bit tricky to perform.
