Lest We Forget

Got out for the traditional Anzac Day run with a group of running friends, heading off from St Lucia Golf Club at about 6:30am for an out and back to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary at Fig Tree Pocket, a course with some climbs in it.

Headed out still feeling a bit beaten up with the quads a little sore up hills, but the calves were fine.  Ran with a friend out to Lone Pine a little ahead of the main group, taking two slightly longer deviations that added a bit of distance.  We managed about 4:47 pace for the 7.54km run out there which felt firm but comfortable pace.

After the group reformed, we observed a minute's silence and I decided to push for the return leg, taking the shorter route back.  There are a few long drags uphill which hurt a bit, but I felt that pushing for pace on sore and tired legs would be good training.  Felt my form wasn't fantastic but persevered, getting back to St Lucia in just under 4:20 pace for the 6.63km return journey, giving around 14.2k in 1:04:46, averaging 4:33 for the run.

Pleased with the back half of the run, good to knuckle down and push on, get that feeling of trying to draw pace from tired legs.  Plus it's always good to be out with friends - running does tend to be a bit of a solo activity for me, which is fine, but change is nice.
