I do not like the olympics medal tally for reason it is distorted by horsing, shooting etc and teh obvious issue with multiplying the swimm...

was thinking to do athletics only, but at the end decided to do running only, so no jumping and throws, also not including stuff which is too technical like hurdles and walks, but including the steeple.

so far :

JAM - 2 2 0
ETH - 2 1 0
RUS - 1 0 1
ROU - 1 0 0
KEN - 0 2 1
TUR - 0 1 0
TRI - 0 1 0
USA - 0 0 2
CHN - 0 0 1

results:

10k W - ETH - TUR - USA
100 M - JAM - TRI - USA
mar W- ROU - KEN - CHN
stpl W - RUS - KEN - RUS
100 W - JAM - JAMx2 - --
10k M - ETH - ETH - KEN

bobsled - JAMAICA

edited :

Thanks Rudolph,

Interesting that the 2 leading medalist countries are much lower on your list.

I always thought weighting medal tallys according to country population would be a fairer way of doing things; then others would argue they should be weighted according to Gross Domestic Product of the country.

But I like the way you have highlighted the pure running medals.

Good idea Rudolf.
It is much better to focus on running events on a running forum.
I am so sick of all the jingoistic nonsense that has accompanied these olympics so far. I just want to see good competition and I do not really care which country they represent.

The pure heart of the olympics is the gladitorial spectacle. We marvel at Usain Bolt and not Jamaica.

That would seem to make the good folks over on the new "Snowsill Wins Gold Moffat 3rd" forum page looking some what un pure just at the moment.

Was Snowsill out of line to run with the Flag down the finihsing straight

Is it not a marvel that Aus can pull far more medals per head of population than say the Americans.

Its alll good!

Well I suppose in an ideal world countries wouldn't exist and we'd all be "citizens of the world" in one big happy family, but until then...GO AUSSIE!

We may all feel good when the aussies win but isn`t that because we think that we had something to do with their victory in some delusional way?

There are may layerd reasons and they all go in to the same pot.  Sure we have somthing to do it it.   Support and prestige that  we shower on our sporting and other hero's is a factor that movates them, although granted not the only one.  Its doubtful that most would put their life on hold at that level without it.

I am not an Aussie but it was stilll a sweet thing to see Elise run the home straight with the flag.

I am not an aussie either but I was also very moved when I saw her cross the line. She had every right to wave the flag and so do all of her fans. What I find distasteful is the non stop focus on australians as if all the other great performances are of no interest unless they are big celebrity names.

updated - 8th place in 10km swimm, unfortunately no ponits for walks or runs
and as the decision was only flat runs (no short hurdless) cant count Sally's fantastic result

fingers crossed for the 50km
