Was just wondering if it would be beneficial to have a section in here where CR's could do their own reveiws on running shoes?

Maybe have a list of shoes and however can then click into a shoe and do a personal review on it.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea to me Huff.

Hopefully there are no professional shoe people on here, lest we give the wrong advice and get told off.

I'm no expert on things Intermanetty but was thinking have a review topic with sub category shoes (other equipment if necessary too)  then list reviewed shoes in alphabetical order.

Include brand, model, year, features, rrp;
Reviewers usage of shoe, any leg/foot issues of user, if shoe assists same,
Actual Review
Star rating

I think this is a great idea.  To many reviews in magazines and other websites are biased towards not pissing off manufacturers, so do not give any crititcism of shoes and only list positive aspects and the manufacturers blurb.

I hate being a stick in the mud but the adage 'one man's rubbish is another man's treasure' springs to mind.  How will the issue of foot/shoe incompatibility be resolved?

Good question.  The answer is that it probably wont / can't.  But that's no different than a payed review in a magazine / online.

At least on here people with foot/shoe incompatibilities can write those in the review and how the shoe helps / exacerbates the problem.

Will also mean that some shoes that would never get a look in for a magazine will be written up and reviewed.

Would be interesting to see what people wear and what they have to say about them.

Would provide a good tool for someone looking at buying new shoes and especially those starting out.

Sounds like a perfect topic for a wiki which would allow you to add categories and reviews very easily!

You could probably add gear and misc other subjects that lend themselves to review as well as shoes.

I have no problem with someone starting a thread "My review of the XYZ shoe".
Should it be a "section" in CR - maybe, maybe not - can't see why the thread can't sit here.
Maybe we can have a list on the wiki that points to all the shoe review threads.

I am ok with listing non-positive points etc - on CR we can give a good round up of negative points and are not biased toewards any advertisers etc.

However, in my own opinion as owner of a running shoe company is that everyone's feet are VERY different. If a runner buys a pair of XYZ and bags the shit out of them, it proves NOTHING. Probably he bought the wrong shoes for his feet. If he ran 200km before they fell apart  it proves NOTHING - he bought the wrong pair. If he ran 5000km before they fell apart  it proves NOTHING - he bought the right pair. They are made in the same places with basically the same materials. For every runner slagging company XYZ I can point to 10 loving them.

That's why it shits me to read threads like this : reebok - any good?
I fear that having a shoe review section will just be more of the same.

Happy for people to post threads as I admit that not everyone feels the same way as me.

Well to get the ball rolling - I will state that I pick shoes purely on price; as I don’t believe in the mumbo jumbo shoes stuff, as I grew up running barefoot, in basketball shoes, skateboard, leisure, all different brands and styles etc etc and never had an injury problem.
I only started thinking about it due to restarting in fun runs 3 years ago as the market is now saturated with these new technical terms. I was very shocked that I couldn’t just go into a sports store and get a “normal” pair of running shoes like >10 years ago., but that’s purely my personal opinion and what’s worked for me.

Brooks Vapour 8
Price = $150 (2008)
KM = approx 1250
I actually wanted the Pegasus but they were sold out so got these instead as they were around my price range and they looked half decent and fitted well. These lasted a long time and are still structurally sound and in excellent condition from the outside; the only reason I can’t run in them anymore is because the cushioning in the forefoot is about as flat as a piece of paper so leaves my forefoot all bruised. The shape of my metatarsals, are actually embedded in the cushioning pad, but to get around 1200 KM is testament of a great quality shoe IMO.
Rating Overall (Price, Longevity, Purpose) = 8.75/10

Brooks T5 Racer.
Price = $140 (2009)
KM = approx 20 so far.
Wanted a very lightweight shoe as I was eventually going to drop down in distances after the B2B fun run, and these were my second choice after Asics piranha’s but couldn’t justify the price with my current times.
Very snug in the forefoot which I like, my toes tend to rollover when getting up on your toes on hills or max sprints.  I ran a 800m in these (and 200m  :) ) and was a bit disappointed as I felt like I was bouncing off the track and getting no traction and drive through my stride on the tartan, but I understand that these racing flats are more for >5km road races etc so that was my fault for not buying spikes even though I am a heavier runner. Overall a great shoe that is extremely light and will definitely buy another pair for speed/interval/hill training sessions. Going from racing flats to normal shoes feels like you are wearing ankle weights, its unbelievable how the lightness gives you that air of confidence and hopefully increased stride turnover. An excellent shoe; and the negatives can only be attributed to me changing what race distances to focus on, after I actually bought the shoe.
Rating (Price, Longevity, Purpose) = 9.25/10

I am eagerly awaiting any MD spike reviews.

There is an existing trailshoe thread that is working really well. People come in and comment on their latest acquisition or new models and how they performed. As Kevin said, we are all different and this is reflected in the posts but it allows people to find constructive information which at least might steer them towards a shoe that suits them. There is also a headlamp thread serving the same purpose. There are others, including backpacks for running, but I tend to just follow the ones that interest me.  :)

I understand there are numerous threads on shoes here.  Was more hoping to have something organised where it can be indexed appropriately and easy to scroll through when contemplating a new shoe purchase - rather than trolling through the countless threads.

I think it would be good to have it organised. We have had threads on Nike Frees, etc, etc. Good to hear from people who have bought them.

With the pros, I think it would be good having the professional shoe people give the right advice or direction on a shoe thread.

We have had shoe reps and podiatrists giving good advice, that is the standard we should be expecting. If they show bias, then they should be shot down verbally.

No. There should be two review sections, Running shoe  - Fakes and Running Shoe - Genuine.

Also. if you buy a brand name shoe and it falls apart in a couple of weeks  then its probably a fake.
