OK so who is up for tying to make 100km week average for the whole year.
For 2011 my stats:
Average Ks per day = 13.3
Average Hours per day = 1.23.03
Average Ks per week = 93.2
Average Hours per week = 9.41.23
Total Hours = 503.52.41
Total Ks = 4844.3

It is only 1km per day more for me.

With 366 days in 2012, you can afford to have two rest days. :)
52 weeks is only 364 days.

Brick, I like your style.

I will give this a good go, it means that I will have to run an extra 1,000km than I did in 2011 but last year was my first doing the long stuff and was a big learning curve, will be fixed with more consistency this year.

It was good running with you for a short time at the GH100m Brick, hopefully I can stay with you a bit longer and run the extra 33km to finish this year, that will certainly help towards the target.

Perhaps "reduced to smaller numbers" might have been a little less Freudian.

I'm in.  I need something to keep me honest.   4024 for 2011 - so a bit of an increase for me.

I'll join you, but i'll have to play catch up between track seasons. Running really doesn't take much time if you're organised, I suspect most who criticise the amount of time we spend running spend more time watching TV.

Not me.  Did that in 2011 and coupled with 10,000km on the bike it was too much.

For the year I ended up with:
5210.91km running (100.21km per week, or 14.325km per day).
10766.03km cycling (207.04km per week, or 29.577km per day).

All these KM's captured on a Garmin.

Anyway, I've set more modest "ranges" of between 3500km & 4500km running and 8000km to 9000km cycling.

I wish you well Brick and lord help us all at C2K next year with you spanking out this sort of volume

Although I listed 10km per day as my primary goal for the year, 100km per week is what I really want to achieve and then hold that level all year round.

I am currently on 80km per week but that level is rising and I could get to 100km per week by Febuary if all things go well. I will stay tuned to this thread to see the progress of others and also report my own.

As far as I am concerned, if I could run 100km per week all year round then I would be certain to smash all of my PBs so I will just focus on having good weekly kms.

I would love to join this number again, but my last 4 weeks off with minimal running from ITB means maynot achieve this year... still I can't complain, having looked at my log:
From 2007 to 2011 (5 years), I've averaged 5211 per year... :)  Will see how I go this year, may have to have a few big weeks to catch up once I recover post ITB!!

Managed just over 73km a week last year for the first time but for the last 10 weeks have been averaging over 90.

My main goal is just 80km/week but as I do major k's in the first 3 months training for Melbourne Trailwalker I'd like to try and see if I can keep above the 100km mark for the first 4 months and then see how it goes from there.

I am not keeping a diary at the moment, so I may have missed out on counting some short runs last week, but I know I have run at least 155km so far.

That is eminently cool.  8) An antechinus rescue has to be worth a few km. Perhaps a with special bonus km for each additional pouch young.

274km for me in 16 days, so approximately 46km ahead of schedule based on 14km/day for a 100km week.

Started off the week well but missed my long run on Saturday. Woke up at 3:00am very tired and decided to err on the side of caution and have an easy week, it's still early in the year and sometimes sleep is more important. Looking forward to a better week this week.

Welcome Ian.
The difference is all your running is like Easy Tiger bloody fast.
Mine is all slow, a few people lately have even said it is pedestrian and should not even be considered running. (Reading between the lines a bit.)

400km down after 23 days.

Trying to find that balance between races, speed work and base mileage. I need more of all of it to improve.

Couldn't agree more - getting the balance right AND staying injury free.

For the first 21 days 309k @ 14.71 per day (+ 99k)

Week 3 was 75k after the SMC marathon on the Sunday.

Now at 358k for 24 days @ 14.91 per day (+ 118k)

I have a marathon on Thurdsay and some no running recovery days so the average will go down but I should stay ahead of the 10k per day average.

Nice thread.  :Applause: and a nice challenge

Hi Eagle,

I think you've moved from the 3650 (10km a day) to the 5200 (100km a week) thread by mistake.

You are already ahead of the required total  :clapping:  - so just stay with us.  :friends:

I'm not about to join this group :) - however, I have a question.  Clearly the people contributing to this page are among the more motivated (and even talented) runners, but I wonder what sort of distances you would sustain over a year if you didn't race (or only raced very rarely).  Do you do the distances you do in order to maintain your racing habit, or would you run that far anyhow?  I did one race last year (520km) - but still ran somewhere around 6000km.  I have no races planned for this year (yet!), but on current indications (approx. 110 - 120/wk) I'll do easily over 5,000km (injury/illness permitting).

Just wondering what makes you guys tick!

Thanks

- AndrewC

Mathamatically challenged

I will stay in the 100k a week thread for the moment. I will have to review my comments but yes I am ahead. In reality it is tough ask over 12 months with racing taken into account that requires a taper and recovery.

Andrew
I have for years run races and mostly focused on marathons. I therefore need to keep up a lot of base k's. I am not sure if I would be so committed to the training if I was not so committed to running marathons. If I was not running them I think I would train as often but not with the same distance, intensity or structure.

I train to compete, I often wonder if I'd ever run another step if I didn't have a target race in front of me. In saying that, I'd still find something else to do, I've hardly had a day off from some from of training since I was 4 years old. Without a doubt, the fitter I am, the better I am as a father, husband and at my job, so regardless of racing I'd still be training hard.

Andrew,
up until 2 years ago the only race I did each year was the Melbourne Trailwalker and from 2003 to 2006 the Melbourne Marathon. So from Jan to Apr I would aim for 70 - 100km a week and then back down to 30-50km a weeks. Then 2 years ago I did 2 additional Ultras and got close to 3600km for the year. Last year I did 6 Ultras and 3850km. So although I did a lot more races my total ks did not go up much.

By the way I wouldn't put myself anywhere near the Talented category and I don't so much compete as Take Part. I just enjoy the longer distances and prefer to do them with other people around. This year I'm hoping to do 1 Ultra a month and for this I think I'll need to get used to the 100km/week, although I'll be happy to finish the year with between 80-90km/week.
