Hi all - we are really excited to launch this brand new event on the Sydney running calendar. The Suncorp Bank Sydney Harbour 10k will take place on Sun 8 July exactly 4 weeks before city to surf. The event will be AIMS certified accurate and is almost dead flat. It starts and finishes at The Rocks, Sydney. It is a beautiful course around the edge of Sydney Harbour, the Rocks, Darling Harbour, Pyrmont and Barangaroo. But there will only be 5,000 spots available and they will be taken so get in fast. Check out the website www.sydneyharbour10k.com.au

Cheers
Wayne

Hi CR's, have been reading through threads on here about seeded/preferred starts at other events and how tight they are. We have got cut-offs in terms of number of spots and qualifying time so I'd suggest you get in fast for this one. The men's time is under 35min and women's is under 40min. So if you've done that and want to run, send me an email at wayne@pont3.com and I'll sort you out (until we fill seeded that is). Cheers, Wayne

I inended doing this run; 4:00a.m train from Mittagong, but with 'early bird' entries closing this Friday, too early for me, so will let it go and keep up the training for ACTVAC Half Marathon in August.  LL

Signed up with my brother. Never actually done a properly timed 10k race before so very keen to see what I can manage.

This year I'll have done the canberra marathon, SMH half, Suncorp 10k, Sutherland2Surf, C2S, blackmores half, tough mudder then the carcoar cup.... I thought running was supposed to be free, haha!

Really?  For a 10k?  do you think it is needed?  What time are you going for JBR?   I tend to self seed with people who are going for the time I want then pace of them.  Has worked for me in the past but Im not that fast!

Hi guys

We will have every km marked very clearly and in the exact position so you can pace yourself. I wouldn't suggest a GPS for exact (to the second) timing / distance, if you want accuracy each of our km will be set according to IAAF / AIMS measurement standards, with a standard stop watch you'll be able to calculate your pace pretty accurately. We'll give you both nett and gun times also.

Cheers
Wayne

Looking fwd to a new fast race on the calender.
There are a lot of turns, so not sure how fast it will be, but there are plenty of harbour views.

Will have to give this a miss. Will be doing the Sri Chinmoy run that day. Now if it had been on the 1st or the 15th I would have run it.. No one seems to want to put runs on these dates.. :drinks:

Well just go home and showered after the inaugural Sydney Harbour 10k...

What a great event. Organisation at the start was brilliant (especially liked the warm zone!), after the finish was the same, and most importantly the course was fantastic. Only one really slight hill on the up ramp in pyrmont with the rest dead flat :)

Set out with a goal time of sub-43 mins, and a fantasy of maybe even doing a 41:XX.... Completely blew both out of the water running a 39:35, with my first ever sub-20 min 5k in the process (19:35)!!!

Really pleased with how it all went. Thanks Wayne for another top event, looking forward to the Sydney marathon now :D

That's a great result Danish, congrats. I really need to spread out from Newcastle and try some of these Sydney events, they sound good. Your City2Surf goal of 65 minutes is way too conservative now, you should be looking at under 60!

great race Wayne. Well done on organising what would have to be Australia's fastest 10km road race. Heaps of pbs out there today on an AIMS certified course. Congratulations to everyone who snared one....especially to Marty Dent in one of the best road runs by an Australian in history on home soil.

Yeah I'm thinking the same thing. The hills are really going to put a spanner in the works but I will most definitely be having a crack at it.

If I can do the 1st 10k I'm around 43-44 mins I reckon I can push out 4 min kms down into Bondi

Well, I'm happy to have been a part of this one. I think it was a great intro to 10k racing for me: great location, great atmosphere and a great course.

Whilst I narrowly missed my sub-60 goal, I did manage to neg split my first race ever! I clearly need to work a bit harder on speed-endurance to convert recent 5k times into representative 10k times. Oh, and lose that last 10kg too ;)

Thanks Wayne and all involved.

That was my plan last year. I ended up an annoying 7 seconds out but i'm sure you'll push it out under the 60. I'm hoping I can produce a 10k time like yours in the Hunter Valley in a couple of weeks.

I enjoyed participating in this run today.

Thank You to the organisers and the volunteers for a great run and all the goodies.

I am really happy :yahoo:  to achieve a time 12m.01s better than my 10k Run for Fun in November and 49 seconds faster than my 9k Bridge Run in September.
I am a regular 2k and 5k run participant and have not done 10ks or further since November.
Today's run makes me feel better in the lead up to the City To Surf, Bridge Run and hopefully Melbourne's City To Sea.

Thanks to all the organisers and volunteers! It was a perfect winter morning to be out and about running around the harbour. Amazing to be able to participate in the same race as all the speedy elites, well sort of.... Already looking forward to next year!

Indeed appears to be the flattest course in Sydney, even Olympic Park 10K (May) is "a bit" hilly. My time was just less than 10sec worse than my PB (2011, Olympic Park) - happy.

Have encountered just one problem - absence of seeding for my category (<=50min). When I crossed Start Line there were already 450+ runners ahead of me (+40sec) - I had to zigzag for first 1-2k (at least) - self-seeding does NOT work. Why not make one-two extra groups (preferred A,B), especially if start is a kind of bottle-neck?

Resume: definitely not fiasco, good event.

Good move by the Marathon selectors to take Marty Dent to London for the Olympics. Smoking hot time. 14:17/14:20 5k splits for 28:37. Fantastic.

Well done on all those PBs, everybody. We got a perfect morning for it, and certainly a fast course (but can't help but wonder could have I been a few seconds quicker without the "slippery brick" section and the "hill" - ok, slight rise - in the 5th k?). Like i555i666wHeretic I also managed to end up towards the back of the A group and it took me over half a minute to cross the start line, but a minor quibble for an otherwise great day.

And how good was the band at the end; they were nailing those covers, with the exception of their excerpt from "Bohemian Rhapsody" but then, hey, Freddy is truly inimitable. But I think the biggest treat of the day was seeing the elites mingle after the race, and especially hearing Martin Dent and Jessica Trengrove talk about London during the presentations - I have to admit I got a little bit star-struck, even though they were very down-to-earth. Looking forward to cheering them on from the pub during the Olympics.

Thanks, Wayne, for a great morning.

Totally smashed my PB, a 30 second negative split and under 37 minutes! I can't quite believe it :)

Congrats to the organisers, couldn't fault a thing, including the weather.

Enough runners to give it a big city race feel, but not overly crowded to make it in any way uncomfortable. If the numbers remain similar then this will become a permanent on our calendar.

And how gracious were Jess and Marty....both happy to take pics with my (very) excited wife who ran a PB and coming 4th in her cat.

One of my fav events to date! Great fast scenic course and very well organised, didn't get a pb but very happy with my time of 44:54 after 2 weeks out with shin splints, the freebies, medal  and the band was an awesome extra, even got the chance to meet and talk to my idol Marty :) no doubt it will be back bigger and better next year!

I loved this run! Not a PB, but excellent prep for C2S - I now know what I have to work on.

I even had a chance to take a facebook-photo with Martin & Jess - awesome folks!

Very minor niggle... was the look of the Medal at the end, quite plain and very humble.
We don't do it for the bling of course, but would actually be happy to pay a little more for the race next year for a show-off medal to compete with the nice medals given out in other races.

Great track, even better atomsphere. For my 1st "big" run I was stoked at the whole thing.

Both myself and my 16month old had a great day. He was tuckered out on the way back to Newcastle. So was I though.

Thanks to all invovled in setting up and participating.
