Hezza!   :Praying:

Welcome back to non-injuredness.

I'm yet to be decided on whether I do a half or a 10, so I'll be in bib number #?

I'm touching wood every day Ed but looking forward to Devil Bend 10K as a gauge on how I will do in October. Good for you on the half thing - I really should set my sights on that one. After all, if we can run (well run/walk) 10K at Marysville, off track, up hills in 35 degree heat, then a half should be a breeze!! Just kidding.

Keep up the training! See you at Devil Bend. (If you run in a Devil suit, they refund your entry fee!!!.................no, best not eh? It wouldn't be pretty!)

I think all that was exhausted on the threads immediately following the races.
Can I suggest we move on and look forward to celebrating a good day for all in Melbourne on 10/10/10?

My Wife and I are coming down from Brisbane for this one, Ill be doing the 10k and she will most likely be doing the 1/2.  I noticed on the website there is a cap on numbers, does it sell out?

From the underwhelming response to this thread it appears there are 3 of us, a couple of dogs and a few tumbleweeds!
Come on CRs - who else is doing this?

I’m almost tempted to enter the 10k purely so I can say I did 10 on 10/10/10.  :diablo:

Still on track for the half at this stage.

I'm a newbie but am doing the 10k.
Just ran in the Run Melbourne - really well organised, hope the MM 10k is the same.
Hoping to get under 45 min - did 47 with flu the week of Run Melb.
Like the idea of 10/10/10 - gotta be good luck??

I also did the Run Melbourne on Sunday, it was my first 10k. My time was 1hr 10min. I'd really like to get under 60min in October. Is this a reasonable goal?

Looking forward to a run on Sunday after a rest week.

Absolutely no reason why you can't get under the hour at the 10K on 10/10/10 - great effort for your first 10K!
Hopefully you'll inspire me to do the same!

For those people who are aiming for a pb or a time goal at the Melbourne Marathon 10k remember that last year the course was very short. Think carefully if running a true 10k course is your aim.

The guy responsible for the debacle (he has a triathlon background which may explain his cavalier attitude towards race measurement) is still involved for 2010, depsite IMG saying they would not work with him again.

On the other hand if you just want a fun run then it won't matter.

Does that mean the course isn't certified?  Surely they wouldn't do it 2 years in a row!

I thought we covered all of this after last years short 10km course, and the CR community divided itself into 2 camps on the subject, and the camps were;

Camp 1-IMG course measurer's are a load of bastards, and we'll never trust them again(obviously 'Distance Runner' is the president of this group)

Camp 2-IMG course measurer's are human, and made an honest mistake, and obviously they will fix it all up for 2010.

Fortunately the majority of CR's and runners overall are in camp 2.

If Distance Runner was really interested in how accurate the courses are measured, he could have done what I did, and emailed IMG to see what the situation really was. I got the following response.

ALL distances (2.5km through to the marathon) are being measured by an AIMS approved course measurer.  The necessary 800m has already been added to the 10km course as can be seen from the course map with an extension along Brunton Ave to bring it to the certified 10k distance. .

So we can stand back and throw mud like Distance Runner(and a few others), or we can get involved and enjoy the Melbourne Marathon Running festival.

The 2009 Melbourne 10km is not the only short measured course ever run. I ran a 9.6km 10 km recently, I ran a 38km Marathon in the Hunter Vally in 2006, and in 1995, the GCM was short enough that it put all our qualifying times for Bostons 100th Marathon in Doubt(And there were a lot of us affected).

But we got over all of that and moved on, and I'm sure most long term runners have story's of short(or even long) measured courses.

PS-I'm glad I'm not married to Distance Runner, as one mistake and its its.... 'see you in the divorce courts.'

Overreaction and near hysterical defensiveness. I was simply pointing out the recent problem of the event for those who aren't aware of what happened last year. Grow up.

Sorry UFF - it must be limited to us (ex) Poms - it means pouring water on one's fire.

I'm in Digger's Camp 2 (thanks for the reassurance Digger!) and my point was that I had moved on from last year and was really looking forward to the 10 on 10/10/10 only for Camp 1 to throw the spanner in the works.

Anyway, everyone, Digger's reply from the organisers will hopefully make everyone Camp 2 and let's all start to get excited.

Let's not start mud slinging either...play nicely!

:)

Well I’ve taken the plunge and entered the 21k!

Whether or not I’ve bitten off a great big healthy chunk of “more than I can chew” or not, I’ll just have to find out the hard way.

Oh, sorry, I’ll get out of the 10k thread now and join the 21k thread.  :)

I'll get a T shirt with 'Don't piss on my chips' on and you'll know who I am on 10/10/10...or does that contravene the current T-shirt wearing thread currently going?.......

'Don't piss on my chips at 10/10/10' - I should Market that!

you could get a few made for those of us in "camp 2" saying "Dont piss on our chips at 10/10/10"

Just a slight change hezza, but could suit more than one person... :)

21k ??? Don't tell me they're moving from under doing the distance of the 10km in 2009 to under doing the Half Marathon distance by 97.5 meters in 2010?

Oh, and Hezza don't get upset as I'm just joking.

Wh….what??

You mean it’s actually more than 21km? I’ve only factored in 21km! How the hell am I supposed to train for the extra distance at such short notice with only 10.5 weeks to go?!?!

I’m stuffed!  :)

I entered last night just before the early bird cutoff, I'm in bib #18208. This will be my second 10km event ever, the first being Run Melbourne a few weeks ago. Still undecided about the De Castella run.

I have just entered the 10k. It will be my first organised 10km run since school (22 years ago!). I am not yet doing the distance in training but will just take it easy on the day and run at training pace - or better if I feel fantastic toward the end. :D

Lots of posts by the Marathon and Half runners but quiet on the 10K front. How is everyone doing in prep for the 10 on 10/10/10?

Devil Bend 10K saw me do a 01:01:01 so determined to get under the hour for Sri Chinmoy Yarra this weekend but mainly want it for Oct 10th.

Now that the Half is full I might have to do the 10km.  What is the general consensus, is it a quick course (good for a PB)?

tony, looking at the map it has quite  few turns in it, i think sri chimnoy this weekend is more like a 10km pb course, less crowded too.

I was thinking about running the 10km at sri chinmoy, but I dont think that I will recover fully from last Sundays half.
Are you running the 10km at sri chinmoy?  how did you go in the half on Sunday.

Hi all

i was originally training for my 1st Marathon at this event, until about 10 weeks ago when I was hit by ITB injury.

Only now am I able to run a 5km without pain, so thought I'd better downgrade my run to the 10km, which I did, so I'm now officially eneterd in the 10km & really looking forward to getting a run under my belt again, as i missed the Run Melbourne & Sandy half.

Safe Running

Roger.

It is great for a PB if theY measure it 1km short like last year!

Things were going great for my preparations for the 10K at Melbourne but I have been ill the last 3 weeks with a virus. Really messed up my 12 week program. I'm starting the first few weeks over again and hoping for the best. Cheers.

Yes unfortunately Mrs Sharpie left it too late to enter and is quite upset at missing out on the 10km run this year after her 'PB' over the 9.2km distance in 2009.

If there are any CRs out there who are injured and therefore looking to transfer their entry, she would really appreciate a PM and a chance to run.

Good luck to all in your final preparation.

Sorry, didn't mean to gloat when Mrs S missed out. I'll ask around. :D

I ran 2 laps of roughly the Melbourn 10K course this morning as my long run. 20K@5:45/K for 1:54:56 according to the Garmin. I subsituted Brunton Ave and the MCG with where I parked my car in Boat House Drive on the other side of the Yarra. Apart from an illness for 4 weeks which put a hole in my running program my preparation has been good and injury free. I hope others are travelling well. Cheers.

This will be my 1st official 10k ran my 1st fun run doing 5k for run melbourne. Finished that with a time of 27 mins. Ran my second 10k ever last saturday and did a 55:45. Wasnt pushing to hard and finished comfortably in a hilly course.

Cant wait for the MM 10k. Looking forward to the small evalation.. Hopefully will push me over the 55 min mark.
