I have had really stiff and sore calves the last week and despite stretching and massaging, haven't been able to settle them. Probably didn't help doing my long run on Sat after a tough training session on Friday morning, but I couldn't run Sunday, so it had to be Sat. Went and saw the guys at Running Science yesterday and tried on some calf guards. I didn't want to take them off last night....and was very happy to put them on this morning for training. I'm not planning to run in them all the time, but will do for training so they are on straight away for recovery afterwards (rather than waiting till I get home). I'm not sure if they made training any easier wearing them during, but they certainly kept my calves warmer....and no stiffness afterwards! Recovery is good.
Mr Gadfly thought they looked highly amusing when he saw them, and even more so as they came in a can! ...but..he got a bad round of hiccups (twice) from laughing so much (twice) - that'll teach him!
Training is going really well - I was over the moon with my 3km time trial (17:09!!!!
So, just over a week to Macleay and I'm feeling OK. I'm not going to put a time out there, but have a couple of plans that I'm aiming for.....most of all though, just to run and enjoy it.
