Just giving this one a last minute bump onto the front page.

Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. If the weather is similar to today it will be super for running.

If only it could be a touch warmer first thing?!

Guess it'll be warm enough soon enough.

Yes, it was a bit nippy before the race but conditions were just about perfect for running. It was good having the 12km and 24km runners start together - made the first half of the long course a bit more social.

I stuck with Minus15 during the first 12km for both conversation and pacing. We were going a little faster than I would have otherwise, but it seemed alright. However, I had to adjourn for a long-ish nature break near the end of the lap, after which it seemed hard to get going again.  Partly it was the loss of momentum, but mostly it was because I didn't have anyone to talk to for that second 12km and I find it challenging to work my legs without also working my mouth.

Still it was very pleasant chugging along the path, past wattles and hardenbergia in flower, with the bellbirds chiming. This was my third time on this course and I think today was the best.

Good to catch up with a few folk before and after, including Paul who I hadn't seen for quite a while. The pancakes were particularly delicious !

Many thanks to the Sri Chinmoy crew for a terrific morning.

It was a beautiful morning for a run.  Actually managed a bit faster than I anticipated so maybe things are improving, a bit more training and who knows what could happen!
Friendly marshals and competitors and then a yummy pancake made for a pleasant morning out.

Hi there,

Only did the 6km today after recent illness and lack of recent training. Was glad I did after doing it tough at the 7.5km at Cross Country Champs at Dundas yesterday. Was a wise move....

After that little speel, once again Sri Chinmoy put on another great event and was great to see a few familiar faces doing the three distances. Was a great morning for it, once we warmed up and I would also certainly second Glenrunner's comments. This venue should be on the Sri Chinmoy series of runs every year, not every second year as its such a great course and I know for a fact that having an event like this in the golden west did drag a few extra's along from my running club, that may not have otherwise done it.All in all another great morning and hope to make at least one or two more before of the SC events before the year is out.

Regards

Had another enjoyable run. Had never run this course before -what a find.Flat course and perfect weather suited me .Kept ahead and ran away from two girls who had run away from me last k in last months race. Passed two other runners at half way mark. happy with the way I pulled up -even though it's 3 months since I have had a training run- should be Ok for C2s .Have planned a run Wednesday...

Similar story for me (illness/injury, lack of training, same tough 7.5k XC the afternoon before, same athletics club - yeah I know pull out the smallest violin  :Talking Ear Off: ) but with C2S coming up I thought I needed to tough it out on the 12k. Felt surprisingly good for the first half and slowed down in the second half but not too much so all in all pretty happy with the effort. Managed to get Mrs Freezer along for her first ever 6k and she did a great job, younger brother (Seagull) toughed it out on the 24k with a good time so a good morning for the family. Great location, great track, well organised etc. Please put it on the calendar again next year but hopefully on a different weekend to the short course XC and M7 which I am hoping to do the relay in next year. Hopefully the XC and M7 will be on different weekends - I am no Eagle.

Cheers

Freezer

Well done. You were looking very strong and comfortable when I saw you. Are you sure you haven't been sneaking in a bit of training ?

Beautiful day for a run.  A bit chilly at the start as others have said but it only took a km or 2 to warm up.  I managed to run very consistant 4.30 kms for virtually the whole race and even managed to get a bit faster towards the end when I saw others tiring in front.

As always, wonderfully well organised by the great people from Sri Chinmoy.  I keep forgetting to mention to them that a coffee van would be nice - although perhaps I shouldn't impose my hopeless addiction on the rest of the community!  It is possible of course that this might contravene the Sri Chinmoy principles (and to may shame having run in many of their races, I haven't taken the effort to find out more of the underlying beliefs).

So a big thanks to the organisers, volunteers and it was nice to bump into many well known faces.

I thought that the numbers were perhaps a bit down and this would not be surprising seeing that there was a marathon and half marathon relay being run on the M7 just down the road at the same time.  Unfortunate clash but I realsie it was brought about by the need to swap with the Centennial Park event.

What a wonderful course this is!  Pleased to hear SMC are going to be using it next season.  Mind you, may need to use snorkels if it rains alot going by where you could see the level the Prospect Creek has flooded up to in the past.

It was a lovely run followed by even lovelier pancakes!  Many thanks Sri Chinmoy for your great organisation.

Won my first running trophy ever, for the 1st place female 50-59 in the 24km!  (OK, I was also DFL, but at least I ran the whole 24km.) Hey Paul, didn't occur to me to have a pancake inbetween loops.  Luckily I hadn't read your comment.

Hope Sri Chinmoy do this course more often (preferably not on the same weekend as the M7)

Hey All,

A big thank you to Sri Chinmoy for a great Sunday.

After trying for the last 4 years I finally won my first race(24k race)and set the course record, though I am sure with some of the fine runners around that will be broken easily soon. To all the runners who acknowledged me during the run, a massive thank you. It is because of the runners who I see turn up to the Sri Chinmoy races that inspire me to run. I love it. I hope to chat to more of you at the next run. And the best thing about the Sri Chinmoy races.... Pancakes.

With little fanfare, the Centennial Park Half was run under sunny skies this morning.
I enjoyed the run finishing in 90:24 by my watch which left plenty of time for the pancakes.

Thanks to the organisers and volunteers.

Another weekend another very enjoyable low key half marathon. Beuatiful morning for a cross country run round Centennial Park, a very scenic run that seemed to go by really quickly.

Ran 1:45:45 with very even 7km laps.

Gotta love a race where you can rock up, jump out of your car and trot to the start, have a laugh with a few running buddies, race, scoff a quick pancake and head home with no crowds or fuss.

Back to the crowds next week!

Just 2 weeks until the series heads back to Iron Cove.  I ran my first Sri Chinmoy event here back in May, and I'm really looking forward to getting back there to try and better my time for the 16km.  A nice relaxed run, followed by pancakes. What could be better?

Gorgeous morning for a run around the bay at Iron Cove. So many people out- joggers, walkers, riders, dogs and the Spring Cycle thrown in! Busy, but fun. Getting warmer too! Got the dreaded stitch around the 5km mark, and slowed a bit each k after that. Got pipped at the post and came 3rd, all good. Love the friendly people at Sri Chinmoy events. Thanks again for the pancakes!

I agree - great day for a race in Sydney. Ran the 16K in a time of 1:14 or so. I tried to keep to marathon race pace (really, I did try), but the atmosphere got the better of me, and I completed the run closer to half marathon race pace! Rewarded myself with some of those pancakes afterwards. Now off to a friend's place for some beer and watch the Wallabies dump the All Blacks out of the RWC.

Was a great Spring morning for a run wasn't it!  Was quicker over the 16km than my first effort at this event, back in May, but not as quick as I was hoping.  Still, really enjoyed it, and was my mates first Sri Chinmoy event (he ran the 8km), and a big difference to his 2 other races: C2S, and the Bridge run at the Running Festival last month.

I had another mate who had decided to enter the Spring Cycle instead, and after seeing all that congestion not far from the start, I was wondering whether he might be looking at the runners and thinking he made the wrong choice! :) It wasn't getting any better, even as I passed it for the 4th and final time.

Thanks to all at Sri Chinmoy, especially for the pancakes!  :good:

Still cream-crackered from last week's Melbourne marathon exertions - so no run for me today, even on my home turf! (Truth be told - I needed to sleep...I might have a little run later today. )

I had a great time, very friendly mob at the races today.Wish they had such a series in Newcastle area.
What a pleasure to see the lovely running action of Keith Bateman gracing the 8K.He won in a course record as expected.
Far,far behind I was chasing the only other M70+ in the race.I pulled Mr Eddy McMaster back quite a bit from the half way point, but made the mistake of passing him with less than a Km to go.Obviously raised his competitive instincts since he cleared out with about 300m to go.Still, made him earn his medal today for a change. :D
I was most pleased with my improvement over recent times, racing shore brings you on.First time for ages managed to hold under 7 mins per Km,just under anyway. So,I am going to give myself a clap for that. :clapping:

Lovely day for a run and grat to meet some familiar faces.  Even bumped into an ex-flatmate from 30 years ago - and amazingly we even recognised each other on the run.  I've run this course 3 times before and have always done 67 minutes.  So I was a bit disappointed to run 69 today.  Plenty of excuses (hot weather, cyclists etc etc) but the reality is probably a combination of being a year older and not as fit!

Many thanks to the good folks at Sri Chinmoy who put on the event.  It was wonderfully well organised as ever and the friendly people are a credit to their organisation.

My First Sri Chimnoy - a very pleasant morning - thanks for a great community event - and the pancakes were a pleasant surprise. Was a bit tricky on the course in places, especially with one cyclist waiting for me and then pushing his bike in front at the last minute - yes, I did swear! Apart from that the run went perfectly for me - I intended to go easy in the first half to give my sore leg time to warm up and accelerate at the turn around - so 3:35/km on way out with another runner and was pleased with 3:19km on the way back :-) very sore later today though :-(

I did the 16km event and really enjoyed it. Despite having to do a bit of bike dodging like everyone else it was just a beautiful morning to be at the bay. Good to run and chat with Ms Mook, and to catch up with Sid, Fossil and other friendly faces before and after the race.  Big congratulations to Fossil on his stellar Sri Chinmoy debut.

Thanks as always to the Sri Chinmoy folk for a great morning.

Always lovely to see Slomo & catch up with everyone over a pancake.

Another well organised event.

The Cooks River race is on this Sunday. If you are in Sydney, and are not doing the Central Coast HM, this is a great little run. The 4km, 8km and 16km events all follow the same 4km loop which has a couple of footbridges and some lovely, shady riverside stretches.

I Love these Sri Chinmoy races and will be there on sunday working up a good pancake eating appetite! I did this run for the first time last year and enjoy the course. Fond memories actually, as I ran my fastest 16ks that day :good: . Though I wont be running it as fast this time, still running a bit injured, broken old thing that I am! :Black Eye:  Somehow managed to run me a mountain marathon at Carcoar couple of weeks back, what a cracker of a run that was!!!!  And the humidity at this time of the year will probably slow me up a bit more on top of that, as this race was a bit earlier in the season last year, lovely crisp morning just made for running it was too. Then there is the epic public transport journey to get there , sigh  The things we do to persue our running passions! I love the atmosphere at these friendly well organised races, and so far have run at every event this year. Just this and the centenial park race in december to go, and I will have a full set. Yeehhaaaa :yahoo: I hope that lots of people turn up, even though there are a couple of other things on this weekend, as this is a nice course to run. Hope to see some familiar faces as well as some new ones. How good is it to be able to run these things!!!!! Call me nuts, totally loopy, and all that, but running gives you wings, takes you back to the essence of who you are, and links you to the earth, the wind, the light and to life. Being able to get up in the mornings, be out and moving as the sun is sliding up over the horizin, to be on the beach, with the wind in my face, the smell of the salt, the sound of the waves, my feet flying over the ground, and then these races.....the iceing on the cake. I luv to run

Hey SKYChariot,  you will leave all in your wake no doubt even if you are injured.  I have come up against you many a times and am left quivering in your wake.     I ran with you at the Feb race and only just pipped you because of your injury. :im Not Worthy:   I have only got in front of you twice actually and both times you were injured.  You are a true wonder and an absolute joy to run with.  I have only been able to make that one race there at iron cove this year due to schedule of runs and now injury also.  I am sidelined and will miss this race, not looking good for Centennial park either but I am trying to make that one.  Enjoy the run, the atmosphere the and the wonderful hospitality of Sri Chinmoy, You will blitz them no doubt good to have found you after chatting to you at the races.

Gee, RunnerGal, go steady or you will give me a big head!!!!!!   Yeah, am new to this forum, and an internet dinosaur. Dont have the net, just use the library, so only have limited time on these things. Figured recently I should work out how to join in after running the Carcoar marathon, and how I enjoyed that whole experience, and after  reading everyones wonderful posts about their running journeys on here, always so inspiring and interesting. Some posts you can put faces to after you start getting around to these races, everyone though just part of this wonderful running community who share the passion to get out there and have a go, and all the wonderful things that come from that!  :Big Grin: Sorry to hear you are injured!!!?????? Thats no good  :cray: I hope that it wont keep you from running for too long. Dunno about you, but I get depressed when I cant run. Gotta just keep remembering that your mind is your most powerful weapon, and used to your advantage you can do anything :good: . Everytime I start to think 'cant' I pick myself up and take off the 'T' at the end of that little word, and instead of it being a negetive word, it becomes a possitive go forward, can do word. When you use the power of your mind in go forward ways your thoughts become construcive and not destructive. And you can make pain your friend, and not fight it so much but work with it. Easy to say, hard to do, - until you think of the rewards to your mind body and spirit when you achieve those things, just one step at a time. Anyway, dont wanna get all mushy and philosophical here. Will surely be having a good time on sunday, I dont expect to be blitzing anything, just doing the best I can with what I have, and anything else is a bonus.  :) So take care of you, and I am sure I will see you out there and running again soon, and making me work hard!!!!!!!!! like you do! And slowmo, hope you see you on sunday, always looking happy and enjoying the run, as you always do!

I'm in for the 16 kms.

Cooks River was where I first started my running in Sydney as part of the Earlwood Sports Centre Running Club.

Anyone know if prams/strollers are allowed in this series? I've raced (with no pram) in a few Sri Chinmoy series in the past and can't recall seeing any, and cant find a yay or nay on the race website. I'd do the 4km and run it pretty quick, so will keep out of the way of the multi-lappers who'll also be out on the course :)

Any help would be great, as I'm keen for my 1 year old to have his race debut, and the Cooks River is our local area

Hello Crazy Diamond,

Your best bet would be to email Prachar, the race director, at sydney@srichinmoyraces.org

Thanks Slomo - yep, emailed Prachar this morning to ask about it. No worries if I can't, just thought it'd be a good small race for my 1 year old's debut. All the best if you're running.

I don't know if the bridges and the few steps would make it too tricky with a running pram. Then again I've seen people pushing their young ones around some surprising courses including the Heart of the Lake / Hidden Half course (Mirambeena park) with its monster hill :)

Just got a reply from Prachar - prams permitted as long as you don't impede any other runners and stay well aware of what's around you. I'll probably bring him along and see what the numbers are like before deciding.

And yep, couple of bridges, the last one near the finish line will be the worst one as it includes a couple of ramp turns to get up and down. I'll go for a test run tomorrow

Yes, a test drive is a good idea. There has only been a modest turn-out when I've run this event previously but sometimes there is also a fair bit of pedestrian and cycle traffic on the bridge closest to the start. Actually, that probably means no one will notice you :)

Hi there,

Now that Glenbrook's been postponed, I've signed up for this one.

Looking forward to seeing you all again.

I note that the sun is shining this Saturday afternoon in accordance with Prachar's recent race email. Higher powers at work it seems.

I expect there will be some paddling to be had near the start though :)

Could be the time for my first barefoot-on-hard-surface race then - to keep the feet dry :-)

Nice to see such a good turn-out today and to have a sunny morning, as promised. In fact, the conditions were great with the possible exception of that head wind on the stretch after the first bridge which I noticed a little more each lap :)

I felt a tad sluggish today but still enjoyed my run. It's very pleasant running along the river with the shady sections and bridge crossings.

Very chuffed to be told by Fossil after the race that I'd been running smoothly. Actually I was just holding it together long enough to look good while he was zooming up behind me, but don't tell him.

Good to catch up with John, Fossil and MsMook and say hello to Crazy Diamond. SkyChariot - you looked to be running really well today.

Many thanks to Prachar and the excellent Sri Chinmoy folks.

You were floating slowmo :-)
And that wind was stronger second lap, I am sure except for some reason it didn't seem stronger when blowing from behind :-)
Was very pleased my legs started to fail from fatigue today rather than injury so looking forward to getting back to 100% training weeks now :-)

Great day out on the Cooks River, with solid numbers across all three distances. I've done a lot of races over the years, but racing with a pram is another thing all together! Arms were sorer than my legs.

Followed Prachar's advice to keep out of others way as much as possible, so started the 4km up near the back. Only passed people when there was enough room (a bit tricky in places) but after a km or so, bub and I were into our stride. The 500m or so of grass/dirt/mud was a bit more difficult, but we finished well in a tick over 16 minutes. A few mins slower than I'd race by myself, but I was 20kg heavier today :) Bub seemed to think it was easy, and didn't show too much emotion about setting his first PB :)

Great to catch up with Fossil and briefly meet Slomo. Thanks to the organisers and volunteers, and well done to everyone who ran

Nice to get to the race on sunday and be part of yet another fantastic event. Thanks to the Sri Chinmoy group for putting these races on, and making them the best events around.  :air_kiss: Nice to see some familiar faces, and get into the post race pancakes! :Drooling: Helped make me feel a bit better, as I didnt have the best trip up on public transport, and didnt run as well as I had been hoping to. Really struggled with it being a bit warm and feeling tired, and still trying to pick up from struggling with injury for the last 3 months, and couldnt really get out of first gear on sunday,  but still glad to be a part of things and out and running on a sparkling morning. Hopefully run a bit quicker at the final race in centenial park sunday week, and wish everyone a merry christmas and a fantastic run for the last of a cracker of a year, all be it a challenging one too!

Like Skychariot, I just couldn't get the legs going today.  Finished in 70.00 - about 3 minutes slower than my last run at the Cooks River.  Managed to win my age category but was well beaten by Wittold in the older over 60s category!

Great to catch up with some old faces and to see the ever cheerful Sri Chinmoy people.  I don't know what they put in those pancakes but it puts a smile on everyone's face. :)
