Does anyone happen to know any surgeons in australia (preferably Sydney) that do piriformis surgery. Piriformis confirmed by MRI. Tried massage, tennis ball, stretching, accupuncture, physio, chiro, cortisone, and botox (lasted 1 week and cost 500 dollars). So surgery looks like only option.

Hi RedBoofHead,

Sorry to here of your plight. I had piriformis syndrome 2 years ago and it stuffed me around for 4 mths or so. Cutting back on training, stretches and lots of voltaren got me through it.

Surgery sounds a bit drastic. At the end of the day, you'll have scar tissue which will still irritate your sciatic nerve that passes by or through the Piriformis and might not be better off. How old are you? (sorry to be rude) and how much time have you given it?

Don't rush it, good luck,

Funrunner aka Craig

i'm 28
piriformis started a year and a half ago
have done zero running or cycling for a year
almost the entire leg is turned off so the knee is now starting to become dodgy due to the muscle instability
can barely walk.
botox worked for a week and leg and knee returned to normal so it is definitely the piriformis
apparently the surgery is key hole with minimal risk of sc arring. its just finding a surgeon who does it.
