However, based on my experience, they have no idea about how to prepare for a fun run/walk. You should all know that HillsAths1 and Hills Athletics have been doing most of the hard work for this event.
I won't bore anyone with the details of what it might have looked like before they got involved, but it's a great war story for another day.
I have personally left three voicemail messages for the co-ordinator, with no response. Since the details are in the local papers, I feel justified in publishing them here too: contact Sue Wiblin 02 9421 2320 or sue.wiblin@gpt.com.au for details.
I have a PDF copy of the course from HillsAths1. It's attached.
Looking at the map, it seems to me the run starts at Tempus St near Main St intersection. For those familiar with the Centre, it's near the bus interchange. Undercover parking is free for the first three hours. There will be other things happening that day too, as part of the Green Travel & Living Expo. I won't put details here as
1. it's not relevant to the run
2. it's not my job
I'll be there for the 10k run. All events start at 8am. Make sure to get there earlier if you won't have registered by then. Entry is free. Enjoy the day!
cheers, BB

As I have said earlier this is a new venture for the organisers and is a fund raiser for the Cancer Council.
Sue has done a lot of work to prepare for this run and has needed a helping hand to understand the complexities of organising a fun run.
There is no entry fee, and the Town Centre will donate $5 for each entry so it is a pretty good deal.
I ran the course last week and can confirm that it is a fairly flat course with a couple of minor(nothing compared with the recent Hills Fun run Hill).
There are road crossing involved and there will be traffic control in place at these intersections.
I am happy to help out as it is great to have another run in the Hills, and it is for a good cause.
Cancer Council Merchandise will be available for purchase on the day. Donations can also be made.
Start/ finish is at the Bus interchange area.
I am not saying that there wont be teething troubles, but for a run on a Sunday morning with lots of other runners, that costs nothing, cant do better than that.

Thanks for putting a positive spin on things. No doubt it is all in a good cause. No doubt it is well intentioned.
I have also no doubt that communication, from a sample of one, has been poor. Still, I guess I can always drop in our entries to the shopping centre rather than assume I'll get a returned phone call.
I won't let this get in the way of enjoying a good course at a good price not far from home. I'll be wearing my Hills Athletics singlet too.
cheers, BB

Is this a timed event? I assume that it's not.
Thanks for letting us know the start and the route. I emailed the lady last night but she hasn't replied yet.

Expecting an influx on Sunday, so if you can get your entries in before then, it may save you a lot of time.

I know that the Town Center management has put a lot of time and resources into this race and it would be great to have another community race well supported.

There will be different starting times for the three events (run or walk):
8:00am 10k
8:30am 5k
9:00am 2k
Assembly/start/finish is in the Market Square (Tempus St). Undercover free parking (first three hours) available - just drive in.
Here's a link to the map of the RHTC.
As HillsAths mentioned previously, there will be prizes per category - presentations around 10:00am.
There will be four water stations along the 5k course - that must be some sort of record!
It should be a traffic-free course, as the RHTC opens for trading at 10am. There will be 17 marshalls along the course to help with directions and any traffic management needs. The 10k runners do two loops; if you plan on doing 6 min/km don't worry, you won't be crashing into the 5k start - 10k runners will run along the outside of the Market Square as they move through the first 5k.
I feel a lot more confident now that this will be a well-managed event, along a nice course and for a good cause. If you're still undecided, my advice is to get there by 7:30am, register and have a go!
See you there, BB

Plenty of runners and walkers turned up even though the weather briefly threatened (and indeed rained early on).
Lots of CR's and other regulars, with HillsAths1 ensuring a strong Hills Athletics contingent.
Great to catch up with the usual running colleagues. Congratulations to thomo who ran a blinder. He'll probably say more. He often does.
I was pleased to run with photogirl, and we finished in a strong 53:10, better than predicted. Well done!
Thanks everyone for your support. I'm sure next year will be bigger and better.
cheers, BB

1st Rouse Hill Town Centre Fun run. For a 1st run event it was outstanding.
Thanks to the local organiser/s for listening to HillsAth1 & BlueBuffett & others who helped prior/during and after the event. Got a lift off Photogirl, thanks for that.
Plenty of volunteers. Registered on the morning after deciding last night to give it a go. Seamless process.
Had a little rain, which I hate. Wearing glasses made sight difficult. Forgot to wear my hat and BluesBuffett wouldn't let me wear use his one.
1st lap I pushed & second lap lost a bit and then came good towards the end. Ended up with 47:23 (course was 9.70-9.75 by our garmin wearers.)
Plenty of CR's out there today.

I ran with Blues Buffett and had a great run , a PB for me of 53:10 - it really does help to have someone to encourage you to keep going - I am such a piker when left to my own devices.
Great to run and chat with Thomo, Enduro, Our Dog Scruff, Bees Knees, Martin Dugdale, Princess Odette and many others. One of my neighbours who has been running for over 20 years but hasn't done an event for many years came along and kicked butt - 39:XX.
It was really good to have a local event and I hope it becomes an annual occurrence.
Thanks to all the volunteers and to Hills Aths1 and Blues Buffett for helping to make it a great day.

Enjoyed running in the rain but not so much when the sun came out and made it humid.
Plenty of CR's out there and met PrincessOdette for the first time.
Bought a T-shirt for only $25 with all money raised going to support cancer.
Great result by Jason Harrison after coming 2nd in yesterdays Fitzroy falls run (10km?)
How to improve?
Have the 2km only for under 12's. There was a bit of glass on the route so maybe a check up on the course makes it more family friendly.
Keep the 8am start, I was home before 11am and stopped at the shops on the way.
Great iniatitive by the organisers and I thinks lots of help from HillsAth and Blues Buffett.
Finished in just under 58 mins which I am happy with. Blinder run by Thomo, well done must have been those chocolate crackles yesterday.
Ratdog picked up a lucky door prize but will have to wait till he posts to find out what it was, as a the presentation he "received" a handshake.

43:17 for me. Very happy with that after a quick run yesterday.
Great to see so many familiar faces and to meet a few more.
Good work everyone.

got through the first 5k in 27.05 and went downhill from there with a finishing time of around 56 minutes
well done to the organisers, this was a well set up first event and after the Running Wild run two weeks ago it seems that Hills runners are out there and looking for podium places.
well done all

need a couple more marshals or more signs,
a great location,
happy with a 40:XX for the 9.71km
It wouldnt be hard to make it spot on 10 km.
Nice company with the usual suspects rocking up. Nice to meet some CR's for the first time.
gift voucher worht $25, but i had to leave before I got it. Maybe HillsAth1 will have it.
GREAT EVENT, I hope it continues.
Im sure the CR west 5 km challange could get a few people to come along from it.

Has the potential to be a great annual event.
Me and Mike has a few close calls with that ####wit in the Red Commodore Ute, but we both got out unscathed.
That's 2 events in 2 weeks for me in the rain

Obviously not, if it's 300m short.
Treat it as a fun run.
At least you can claim a course PB.
Good to see a new event well supported and well done to the winners.

Loved the warning about snakes!
In reading the comments I would agree that if the fields get much bigger the course may get pretty congested in a couple of places, the bridge in particular was getting a little interesting with the mix of 10k and 5k runners and walkers all at various stages and paces.
Steve, a big thanks for posting the placings, we had to leave before the presentations but can you tell me if there was a prize for 3rd place female in the 2k? I am trying to encourage Katelyn to train and get involved in athletics and fun runs so any tangible positive reinforcement would be great.
Also do you know whether all the results be published anywhere (forgot the stopwatch in the effort of bringing along 3 others not just myself) ?
