After a training run from Shorncliffe to Redcliffe a few weeks ago, the idea of a marathon (Fat Ass style) between Brisbane & Redcliffe was raised. A few can remember the old Brissie 2 Redcliffe marathon, with the old route along the road out of the question, the bikeway is the next best option.
Inaugural "Cliff 2 Cliff" - Fat Ass 50km ultra, 42.2km Marathon & 21.1km Half Marathon
Date/Time - Sunday 27th March 2011, 6am start
Cost - FREE - it's Fat Ass!
Place - start/finish from Shorncliffe Pier (Brisbane)
Support - Coke & sweets will be provided at the Marathon & Ultra turn around point & a small supply at the finish (when i get back from this checkpoint approx. 9.30am). So all half marathon runners should be finish by the time i get back. This is a Fat Ass run so self-supporting. Plenty of taps, amentities & a couple of shops along the way. You should carry your own supplies of water and other food. You should also bring along a plastic envelope or something to keep the map dry if it rains or if you sweat heavily. If you want some supplies dropped at the 21.1km turn around point that can be arranged.
Start/Finish Facilities - Parking, taps, toilets & bbq's. Plenty of taps & toilets along the route. Also some beach showers along Suttons Beach for those who like to cool down.
Route - Out & back course. Start/Finish Shorncliffe pier. The ultra & marathon runners will be running along all three jetties/piers - Shorncliffe pier, Woody Point & Redcliffe jetties. You must run all three jetties/piers twice. Once on the outward journey & then again on the way back. All care & commonsense must be taken when running here. Start is running the Shorncliffe pier first. Make way along bikeway to cross the new Ted Smout Memorial Bridge (please keep to the runners side of pathway & don't veer into the bikeway side). Follow bikeway towards the Woody Point Jetty, run the Jetty then where we take the J2J race route up Woodcliffe Cresent, Lilla St pathways then onto beach bikeway again. We run past the Lagoon, onto Redcliffe Jetty & make our way along the bike way past the Sunday markets & to Pirate Park which is 21.1km - the turn around point. Remember to run the three jetties on the way back with the Shorncliffe pier out & back to finish. Due to the jetties & bridge out & back, there's about 9.6km of running over water.
The 50km ultra will do a 3.9km out & back from the start/finish line but will not do another Shornclffe pier run to finish.

Pace - As the course is pretty straight forward you can run as fast or slow as you like. Run in groups, whatever suits you. Runners can also organise a relay if they like.
Time Limit - None - take as long as you like but the 21.1km turn around point will be packed up or unattended at 9am. This gives 3 hours to run the first 21.1km. If you happen to drop out please let me know - thanks.
Distance - 50km, 42.2km & 21.1km. Garmin & mapping measured. Bells Beach is between Pelican Park & Bicentennial Park - this is the half marathon 21.1km turn around for those who don't want to do the full marathon. Ultra & marathon turn around is at Pirate park.
Course Description - Flat & very fast with a couple of small hills.

Course Markings - a couple of witches hats, removable fluro tape markings on bikeway & fluro grass line markings. These will be for the half marathon, full marathon & ultra turn arounds only. Plus some other red & white tape to keep runners on path. Please refer to map for other km points.

Results - i'm not running on the day so i'll record times if i'm not out on the course (especially the half marathon runners) when you finish please record your own time & email me/text so i can post results. Also i will email you the finishers certificates as well. firstname.lastname@example.org
If i can get checkpoint help at marathon & ultra turn around point (from 7am to 9.00am) i can record all runners times.
