will enter this once soccer season is over & i know that i am (reasonably) injury-free.
in the meantime i need to find a program for a lazy-bastard runner, who runs on memory & likes to think that there may be a reasonable run left in there somewhere....(less beer, more training).
have just written down all the lead up events & long training runs - looks like Wil-Bil or even Mudgee mara would be a good final hit-out, although 10k looks daunting at the moment ...... lots of work ahead.

Philk,
Willy to Billy sounds like fun. I am looking to do it as my last long run before sydney.
Hope to see you there.

Also there's a course description and elevation map here: http://www.sydneymar....asp?PageID=829
The closest hotel is the Vibe Hotel (about 200m from the start ) http://www.vibehotel...el north sydney
Otherwise Harbourview Hotel is about a 10minute walk away http://www.viewhotels.com.au/hp_hv.asp
I live pretty much next to the start so if you need any more info about the area let me know!

For those who are interested, one of our clients is Blackmores and they just launched a new website with a few cool tools including a complete first person view video of the marathon which I'm sure the first timers on this course will appreciate. I just had a look at it and it really puts in perspective how far 42km really is!
If you want to check it out the address is http://www.byourbest.com

Desperate to break 3:30. Previous marathon best 3:39. Was on target until 8k to go but blew up. Fitter and stronger now.
To achieve my goal I will rely heavily on the 3:30 pacer and the support of other coolrunners. It is amazing what a lift the coolrunning support on the sideline and from fellow coolrunning competitors provides.
Looking forward to joining you all for a few lagers at the finish line. Nothing better than a frosty to celebrate a job well done.

I'm trying for sub 90, was 91:33 in SMH. Also a good training hit out for the Melbourne marathon
I am trying really hard to not say 'just the half'.

2. 'half' is just slang anyway, it's proper name is the sexxi (as explained here)

Thanks, that pretty cool. I like to think of 42km as "not that far", it makes me feel better.

As soon as I have this week "off" for my achilles, I promise!!
If anyone has done both the Hunter Marathon and Sydney (Tim 2 and Paul Every?) would it be realistic for me to run 3:52 at Hunter and aim for 3:45 at Sydney? I made a few errors yesterday, such as running the first lap too fast and not having enough gels, that I'm sure influenced my time, so I hope this is realistic!

91.33 at the SMH with its hills, twists & crowds - you should be right for 90 at the Bridge Half. I'm one of the 2 Sydney Striders pacing the 90min group so say hello on the day & we'll see what we can do.

Fiona, try www.131500.com.au That's the public transport website and will show you all the timetables for buses, trains and ferries for the date. Use the 'plan your trip' option to get information from your 'home' to the starting line area.
Personally I'd use the train, it takes you directly to the starting area.

I started running about three years ago. I wasted a lot of time before I actually looked up how to train properly, invested in a watch for pacing, and started measuring how far I was running.
I did my first half (Bunbury) in 1:54 in May 2008, and been following an online generic 12 week program that was generated based on that result from the half. I'm really looking forward to having a go at the full marathon.
Good luck to all.

Training going reasonably well, although I'm a bit sore in the quads after the many hills of the Wilson to Bilpin bush run on Saturday.
One more 35k run to go before the big day for me.
Good luck to everyone for the final few weeks of training.

We have been ripped off, I just entered and yes they charged me 150 treasures. that extra 15 will mean ill have to drink cheap cask wine instead of french champagne to celebrate the finish (if i get there). I think its a bit rude but maybe they have had a brain fart and will refund the money back to us when we stamp our feet and threaten them with colourful language.
Ok , today i did my last very long run and now into the taper. I did 32 km at 4:44 pace which is what ill start the race at and then the last 12 km i PLAN to drop the pace to 5:00 pace.
Bring on the Marathon
My Bib no is 7350, age group M30-34. I had butterflies when i was filling out the entry form.
Best of luck to all who have entered. Im Looking forward to seeing everyone during the day, especially the cheer squad.

You won't see bib number 5976 during the race (unless you're running backwards with binoculars) but if I get to the finish I look forward to seeing you and hearing about your run.
I was meant to do my last long run, also 32km, today but I decided a few days ago to slot in an extra rest day because my legs are slightly in shock from the current mileage. And you never know, it might be sunny tomorrow

Wow! I did a 32 Km long run today as well, but it wasn't my last one ... I'll do the Half Marathon in Sydney and the full in Melbourne, but my pace today was 4:55.
Long runs, shouldn't them be slower than the Marathon pace?
I'm not an expert, but I've read a lot about starting a marathon slower and then finishing stronger and this is what I try to do everytime I run a marathon (PB 3:03)
I'm not saying that what you do is not correct, I'm saying that it's SO DIFEERENT than what I'm doing

Wow you have a great PB of 3:03 and alot faster than I am. I decided to do a marathon pace 32 km after a little advice from a couple of old hands after i expressed my anxiousness about not pacing correctly. It may be right , maybe be wrong, but i have put in alot of 5:15 long runs over 30 km and thought that it wouldnt hurt me to try it.
You have an awesome PB and this is my first marathon so i guess what your doing works bloody brilliantly. I hope to catch up to you one day, and look forward to seeing you after the race.
Good luck with the sub 3 hour marathon this time.

I tell you this slowmo, before the race ill chat to you and offer you all the encouragement in the world, just like you do to everyone else. Im so excited about the race and am looking forward to meeting you after to hear about the race and how it goes for you.

Ratdog,
You are in stellar form. 12km on Saturday and then a nice long run 3 weeks out. Resist the urge to go loooooong next week. Tune up, keep fresh and stay injury free and you will have a great day.
Good luck

I also have completed my last 'very long' run on Saturday. 35.5km in around 3:20. If the wheels don't fall off in the next 3 weeks, I could be on for a sub 4 which has been a secret dream of mine. OOPS not secret any more.. Would be happy with anything under 4:20 which was my time from my one and only previous marathon (canberra 2006). Bib no 7166 F45-49
Good luck to all for the taper... (my favourite bit, get to run less and eat more...but I'm trying to stay off the vino till after the marathon!)
Anne.

I think (hope) that it's the tail end of the flu that caused all the unhappiness today. I had a mild dose a couple of weeks ago but shook it off very quickly. I ran the Sutherland half a week ago, and enjoyed it, but the flu returned shortly after for a few days. Very mild and no fever but it seems to have left me with very little energy.
For better or worse today was the last long run, so my glacial stop-start 30km will have to do. But I must admit I felt very disappointed and I find it hard to believe that I'll magically be able to run 42km in three weeks time
Sorry - just needed to moan a bit
