Seeing as it's nearing that time of year again.....can I ask if it's general consensus that work Christmas Parties generally occur on Friday nights? Does this mean that it may be a good idea to hold our CR Christmas drinks on a Saturday night? (Saturday 19th in particular!)

With C2K on the 2nd weekend in December this year, it pushes the possible weekend for the xmas party very close to Christmas, so it's likely to clash with a lot......Would a Saturday night be best? I'm thinking this calls for a new thread and possibly a poll, but at risk of appearing to nominate myself as organizer I'm just going to post here on last years thread instead :) anyways, I don't live in Sydney and I think the organizer needs to be a local :D

Looking at the calendar, I can see the following:

Sat 5 Dec - rumour has it there might be a few people running in an undisclosed location
Sun 6 Dec - Central Coast half

Fri 11 Dec to Sun 13 Dec - C2K

Sun 20 Dec - SMC

Therefore I second Ratty's motion that the drinks be held on Sat 19 Dec.

Is the Forbes Hotel a location that people are happy with?  Or are there alternatives that others prefer?  Speak now or forever hold your peas.

I would if I lived in Sydney (can we have it in Wollongong? :D) and actually knew anything about places in the city.....unless we try the Forbes again (where is it? :)) except this time getting someone feeding us would be a good idea.

Looks like there are 9 votes so far for Friday 18th, and two votes for Saturday 19th.

Venue suggestions anyone?

Not listening?  I was cheering in favour of democracy.  Like I do on every election night - especially if the party I support doesn't win.

I'm all in favour of Friday 18th if that's what the majority wants, even if I'd prefer Saturday 19th.

I was referring to the proposal of a piss up night before one of the key series' going around, as opposed to other clashes......that's ok, you are not a member or even a supporter there.

Ratdog on the other hand...we are already working out the punishment :)

In defense of Ratty ( :) WTF am I doing here?) he may already have a booking on the Friday, or have to work, or other logistical issue that leaves him in favour of the 19th.

Yeah, sorry about the 10/20 being the day before the first SMC but it had to be somewhere. If these drinks were also before an SMC, then you could start a new prize category. Over the whole season, the person who performs best hungover.

Forbes was good last year but may hard to get so close to Christmas, previous year  drinks were at Squires on King St Wharf on the Thursday following C2K - no crowds and excellent roll up.

Going well against the grain, Saturday works better for me as we'll be coming to Sydney that day anyway, will have to beg and plead the husband to agree to an extra night.

We seem to be split on either Friday or Saturday nights.

How is peoples availability for (and would we all be receptive to the idea of) a Lunch/afternoon drinks on Sunday 20th? After SMC, and as the week before Christmas it would be un-Australian to not front up to work slightly under the weather on Monday morning.

Venue to be determined if the idea doesn't sink beneath the waves never to be seen again.
