Last year, my son did the kids Marathon. This year my Wife would lie to do the 5k.
It's turning into a real family affair.

Realistically, i know i wouldn't be doing a fantastic time for the 42km (+.195), not to say i will be agonising another 8km there after. I anticipate 6FT will really buggered me in terms of fatigue.
Having recently sold myself to a bank (started a mortgage!!), budget is an issue.
Should i simply skip it (save the drive to canberra, save the YHA hostel cost, save the entry fee, save the weekend away from Mrs) and just spent $10 of fuel and drive to Berowra and do two laps of the Black stump run (which one lap almost killed me, and it took me 3hrs47mins!!!) Or would a proper preparation to TNF 100 requires a race like event like Canberra?
I've up my LSD to 30km each week, thus averaging 70km a week. Should peak soon (hopefully not too soon)
Any thoughts any one?

Try to get a minimum of 3 X 36-40KM Long runs in before 6' Track.
Have a nice rest after 6' track and bobs your uncle.

Yep, first tried to book online, then rang them to double check. I thought at first only the 'special price' rooms were unavailable but according to the receptionist, the entire hotel has been booked out that weekend. No problem, have since booked at the Telopea Park Inn.

Seems that they have had a few cancellations. Tried to make a reservation a few weeks ago, both online and by phoning direct, as a Rydges Priority Guest member, at Capital Hill. No luck though - was informed by the receptionist that Capital Hill was absolutely fully booked for the weekend. And that included the Honeymoon Suite
Am assuming that you DID book for the Marathon weekend?
Am looking forward to the 50km event, hopefully faring a lot better than last year, when I came off Six Foot Track and then 100km Melbourne Trailwalker feeling worse for wear.
As Tesso said last year, "50km: it's the new marathon distance".

Yep, definitely marathon weekend 12-13 April.... *frantically checking race calendar*
You'll fare just fine, Bandanna, what with your new training partner an' all!!

I am finding it really hard to do any kind of speed I can do my normal runs at just below 5MPK pace but if I try running at 4:30 per K pace it all falls a part quickly.
Some ideas:
Maybe it is because the hot/humid weather has hit Sydney.
Maybe still recovering from C2K, still need more rest.
Maybe I am just a bit sick.
Ideas of something I could try or do to change this.
My target was going to be 6' Track Marathon then a sub 3:00 Canberra Marathon but not looking good at this moment.
Eagle and others aiming for similar how is your training going time/speed wise?

glad to see my name up on the web as an entrant!!! Really getting excited now, training going well, have down loaded some audio books which help me pass the time as i run! On the accommodation issue any ideas for a place that offers late checkout and is family (wife and two kids under 12) friendly, everything i try is booked out or too expensive....
Cheers

I had heard a little rumour but I am keeping the fingers crossed for you about the "hammy". Sorry to hear its been giving you grief...regardless of what condition you're in come Canberra, it'll be great to see you out there.
Guess Im looking for a partner for the Thursday morning loop runs??

Have been training for the Canberra Marathon 08 since early December and, if all goes well, I'll be lining up for it too.
I'm training for a 3:50 - 4:00 finish.

If only they were! Alas, mine are shorter and, er, according to my GP, 'boy legs' on account of the muscles we women aren't supposed to develop through running.

Being my last <20km run was the 1/2 marathon at Melbourne, I went for a 20km run last Tuesday to make sure I wasn't kidding myself. All seems fine and I'll attempt 25km for my long run Sunday. If I can build my long run up to over 30km by mid/late February then I'll send my entry in. If not, I'll see some of you at Gold Coast! My confidence is high at the moment so I think I'll be at Canberra.

Too early to call, but I am being a good girl and completing my speed work for the first time ever. Fingers crossed it pays off and I can prove my first sub-three wasn't a fluke.
Brick - hope the injury turns out to be nothing much and you can still cross the line in 2:XX:XX.

I've decided to drop Six Foot this year and concentrate on the sub 3hr at Canberra. After 3:03.28 at Canberra and 3:03.23 at Sydney I find myself a lot faster over shorter distances than I was before Sydney.
I figure I am in with a good chance.
I am still doing the 50k if they don't stick me on a drip after the Marathon finish.
Three months to go and I've racked up half a dozen 30+k training runs. Just have to go longer and faster now.
Hope everyone is enjoying the training.

Good stuff. Jack Daniels has had a huge influence on my running. Jim Beam too.

i was on track for a solid 10K pb as the runner in a team olympic tri event at 9.5 k, when, all of a sudden!!!!! the race finished.. the course was half a klick short.
I listened at the briefing, i read the blurb on the website and at the race and i didn't know.. so a bit bummed out about that. 36.08 for 9.5k which works out to be about 38mins for 10k, but i guess i wont be claiming it since i haven't actually done it!! but at least it shows i'm on track for canberra, and thats really what i wanted..
also, on parts of the course was a walking race with half a dozen current and ex-olympians, and i gotta say, they were flying!! pretty rough for some of the tri guys to be overtaken by walkers

And while I'm asking what peoples plans are, is anyone going to the Pasta Party? Or is someone organising anything else? Just curious before I fork over my hard earned cash.

I am in for the 5KM as well as the Marathon. As you mentioned, just to soak up some atmosphere. Also I like to have a nice run the day before a race. It seems to wake me up a bit.

Given it's your first marathon, if you run the 5k the day before, I'd take it really slow - as in about as much effort as a walk - you'll need all the energy you can get the next morning! Better yet, skip it, and cheer your heart out for your family, so that they'll do the same for you the next morning!
Stay focused, and good luck!
