Going long to finish the week

Managed to lever my sorry backside out of bed at 4:30am for my long run, driving to Auchenflower and parking just off Land Street at the back of the Wesley.  The run would be, thanks to some work on Gmaps Pedometer the previous evening a variation on the 30k from a fortnight ago where  rather than crossing at the Go Between Bridge on the north end of the loop, I would cross at the Victoria Bridge.  I started clockwise, turning anti-clockwise once I got to the Land Street underpass of the bike path, just to give a little mental variation.

I was also debuting my new flouro yellow long-sleeve running top - it was quite fresh in Brisbane this morning, the BOM suggesting 11 degrees, but the gentle breeze up the river making it feel a bit cooler.

Not much to report, really - I seemed to tick along okay straight off the bat, managing around 4:49 pace to the top of Highgate Hill where I had a quick comfort stop and a drink (around 53s, and included in overall time), and then continuing to the Land Street underpass in a bit over 1h21m for about 4:50 pace.  Turned around, stopped for a quick drink (13s worth) where on leaving I was just over 4:50 pace.

Felt pretty good on the climb up Highgate Hill and, to be honest, all the way to the Victoria Bridge.  I was starting to hurt a little once back on the Bicentennial Bikeway but had enough momentum and sense of being close to finishing to keep my pace going, managing to arrive back at the car in 2h40m02s for 33.66km @ 4:45 pace including about a minute of stopping.  I didn't take any fuel during the run, and actually felt okay at the finish rather than just being completely smashed like I have been previously, which considering it was further and faster than a fortnight ago is great (the cool morning would probably have helped with this)

Really pleased with the effort, and even more pleasingly this took the week's total to a little over 112km at 4:31 pace.  There were some really good quality sessions in there, and I'm a little beaten up now, but less than I thought I probably would be.

Next week builds on this again and I want to take a crack at the 36 on Sunday, so I can get the first of those out of the way - if I can keep the pace at around 4:45 or so (within 30 seconds of sub 3 marathon pace) that would be a nice little goal ticked off ahead of my planned full race rehearsal at BRRC in three weeks time.

Good run!
