Hi Cool Runners,

I have started my training from City2Surf (intermediate training from their website) and I was wondering if you could recommend any good 400m hills in the Sydney CBD?

I would like a hill that's uninterrupted by traffic :)

thanks for your help

thanks for that.

I was however more thinking of a hill I could get to during my lunchtime run.
I work in  king st wharf.

King St Wharf? Then I'd suggest Loftus Rd, Rushcutters Bay.

Or run over the bridge back of Milsons Point up toward ST Leonards, Bank St (from memory) particularly, and return to CBD.

May be better suited for a day you can go a bit longer time wise.

Or down Hickson towards the Hero Of Waterloo and bottom end of Sussex (?) St where there is a particularly steep spiral affair. It hurts.

yeah head down Hickson road then get to the top of the observatory which ever way you like (roads, stairs etc).  Otherwise the domain has a few different ways to do some hills including from Woolloomooloo.

Starting at George Street you could run up Argyle Street, turn left onto Upper Fort Street and run up to Observatory Park. It would be 600m in total - the first and last 200m are uphill.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!! I will try these out next time.

Bellthorpe, I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve with your post but not everyone is a fast runner and can complete a 20km run on a lunchtime break.

Hunter st. is pretty steep, not sure how long it is,or how safe you could make it. Otherwise agree with aDrain.

Domain Hill (basically to the south side of the Art Gallery). Starts in the top SW corner of the park, near the bubbler, then down the hill to the very bottom (it is a bit of "curve"), between the Art Gallery and the Domain Parking Station).

It's not 400m (I think it is around 275m), but it is a good alternative, plus is all on grass. Great for lunchtime hill reps.

From the bus stop at Argyle and Kent Streets up to the Observatory Hill, along the footpath is abour 250 metres. I used to do 10 to 12 of those with jog down recovery. I used to be able to do that, get back to the office and shower all in an hour.

At lunchtime, Hunter Street is really a no-go zone.

I'd concur with all the Observatory Hill recommendations. To be more precise, the best route is probably to head uphill from the crushed car roundabout outside the Sydney Theatre Company then you can head Left-Right-Right or R-L-L at the top to reach the foot of Observatory Hill road.

Not sure of any hills, but there are some slight inclines at Argyle, Hunter and the like. For some real hills you have to be heading across the bridge to the lower north or over to the eastern suburbs.

Across the bridge and up Ben Boyd road is good as is Blues Point Road. Both abit longer than 400m, but they build real strength.
