1)     Cadbury Marathon has partnered with three-time Olympian (and Hobart Run the Bridge winner) Lee Troop to offer complementary 14 week training programs to all entrants in the Cadbury Marathon.  The programs are tailored towards your goal time, with personal input from Troop, regardless of your ability.  Using the innovative Marathon Guru tool, which predicts your race time based on your training progress, it also alerts runners to when they need new shoes, to avoid injury.

I'm assuming these programmes aren't available until you enter. Not like the GCM programmes that are available on the site to all. Was hoping to start a programme and see how I was going before entering.

I'm in for the half.  :D

It will be the last day of our Christmas holdiays before we head back to site. We will have had about 2 weeks in Tassie by then. I hear the food is good down there. It may not be a PB event in that case.  :)

Hey Guys,

Thought I'd drop in with an update on the Cadbury Marathon.  Entries have been flying in, from all over the world which is great.

Early entries close today, so save yourself $10 by entering before Summer comes (tomorrow).

Once you enter online, you can also get access to the all new Marathon Training Schedules, as designed by Lee Troop.  All entries in either the half or full marathon can access the free training programs.

One of the best value for money events in Australia, all entrants also receive; a chocka bloc goodie bag, new designed medal, free BBQ, access to free massages, access to complimentary ice baths in SKINS recovery area, a GU with your race number to take out on the run with you and a chance to win great spot prizes from Mizuno and SKINS.

Also, back by popular demand, the Cadbury visitors shop will be open during the event - so you can go in and get a bargain at Australia's best chocolate shop!

Cheers

I will be pushing my 8yo son Jason in his wheelchair running the full marathon. This will be our first event since completing 320kms in six days running from Wodonga to Melbourne. We are both really looking forward to having a go at our first Hobart marathon, the legs feel great and I'm also feeling very fit. Looking forward to meeting you all at the starting line.

Thanks for the info Richard, really looking forward to running this event.  Can you tell me what the course is like?  Everyone is telling me that Hobart is pretty hilly, but can't see the info on the website.

Cheers

Dave there is one rise at about (guessing here) 13-14 km, for about 200m, and then an uphill for about 6oo metres within the last kilometre.

Hi Penfold,

Yes once again for the upcoming event, we will turn left on Main Road.  The reason behind this is to do the Brooker Highway part of the course first, so the police can open up Tasmania's busiest road earlier.  You guessed it, they tell us what to do!!

Cheers

This is a top event, I am flying down from the sunshine coast for 3 days just to do this marathon again. Did it in 2009 and had a great time, didn't really find the hill at the end a big problem as you know the pain is almost over!!!!

What is the temperature normally for the event and can spectators drive to different points to support us?

hi joshyg

as a local i would say that due to the 6am/7am start conditions are generally pretty good right the way through
(versus training in the hottest parts of the day)

those from the "north island" will probably tell you it is cool to cold  :D

in my experience in past years most of the course is quite accessible - ie once you get out of the cadbury
state section you're fine which means they can easily see you from 4km to 20km - good on you for having
support around my other half had given it miss until the organisers had the bright idea of opening the
chocoloate shop while the event was on !

Cheers

I've gone back through the thread and added those who seem to bre reonasbaly certain to enter. I mean no disrespect if I didn't add you, just wasn't sure. :)

And the other important stuff.....social events! What's been typical in recent years? Pre- post- ? Both? I will be in Hobart on my own from the Friday afternoon till the Monday morning and I am very keen to catch up with as many of my favourite people (aka Coolrunners) as possible during that period.

I'm planning on trying to get my first sub 3 hours, and was wondering from others whether the chance is there for me.  I ran Melbourne this year in 3:04:06, and felt that I probably didn't take the first half as hard as I should.  I know I have a sub 3 in me, just don't know the course too well, conditions etc.  If there is any people out there that are just under 3 hour runners, would love to be able to stick fairly close by your side!  Looking forward to hitting Tassie anyway, heard it's a great event.

We are definitely confirmed entrants. We arrive in Hobart on Friday morning and are leaving Sunday evening. We are staying at a caravan park in a cabin near the airport as most of the accommodation over there were fully booked. Looking forward to the event, and I agree to the running conditions, starting the event at 6am, most competitors will be finished by 10am, it should be great running conditions. See you all there!

Good work. I will be in Hobart from the Friday as well with my wife. Last year I managed a pre race meal with Uncle Dave. It would be pleasant if something could be organised. I will have a car.  :) We have a B&B at Battery Point near Salamanca ? Markets.

Hi everyone!

I am signed up for the full, it is my first (finally - a very long time coming).

I note that there are only between 100 and 150 entrants in the full course every year. Does anyone know if the course is quite obvious/ always well marked? I'm terrible when it comes to navigation and as I'll be toward the back of the pack (4hrs) I'm a tad worried about losing my way.

I ran it last year. It simple course to follow. After a short loop at the start it run up and down the highway a couple of times and then back to the start. I think it woud be very difficult to get lost  :) except if you ran past a manned turnaround point. I think keeping on course is the least of your worries. Congratulations on entering your first. :)

Solace, can you just bounce me down the list, I am only doing the half in Hobart.  I am going to the Gold Coast for the first full, as I worked out that, from another forum posting, on the 3rd July, I will be 42.195 years old exactly, so a great day to run my first 42.195 km race :)

Saturday and Friday nights sound good, the Taste of Tas is over by then, but plenty of great eating places down here, and Simone, the locals are always good for a lift to a venue :)  Do you mean the Mercure?? I don't think we have a Marriott in Hobart??

Moved down as requested.

Yeah, it's probably the Mercure. They have buses to the start so I figured it would be easy enough to just stay there as well.

I am keen for either night, Friday/Saturday, even both! :)

Any thoughts on venues?

I would love to meet everyone and have a drink... though most probably just one drink given that I have had a month of complete sobriety so far in the lead up to this run. Perhaps on the Friday night?

I'm originally from Hobart but I haven't been out on the town for a long while. Customs house is quite central and has a bit of old world charm: http://www.customshousehotel.com/

How does Leelee's suggestion sound people?

I'm also originally from Hobart and although I don't go out on the town much when I'm here, I always make sure I soak up the atmosphere of the waterfront area.  Customs House is located there and is just a short walk from the many bars and restaurants of Salamanca Place and Salamanca Square, all with outdoor seating.  I would love to meet others for a drink, preferably on the Friday night and can assist with transport as I have my car here.

Okay, let's lock in the following:

Where: Customs House, Hobart
When: Friday 7 Jan 2011
Time: 6:00pm

That way we can have a drink to start and then if anyone wants to kick on and have dinner they can and if any don't, it's no big deal.

Is somebody going to have a distinctive top on, as that particular ebstablishment will be rather busy around that time??  be aware they also normally have reasonably strict dress regulations (i.e need a collar guys)

5 days to go and I'm still limping with a bad back, the pain is improving but is very slow to settle . So it's not looking good for this race. I'll still come to Tassie because I have acommodation and flights booked. I am having trouble letting this HM go and look at the bigger picture of future races.

It looks like I will have a Hobart holiday rather than a race.

I am still in Sydney and fly into Launceston early tomorrow. I am staying in Hobart from Friday night.  I might not make it on Friday night as I maybe still travelling. We are staying close by so I will just see what happens.

I am very under prepared for this one and will not no predictions but it will be slow. I just hope to make it back before the presentations  :) - I might get a spot prize.

I'll be there, I have black glasses and dark hair, female and I'll wear a bright orange cardigan. I could try and print out an A4 size coloured cool running logo and hold it up or something?

Good idea to have a cool running logo somewhere on your person, I will be wearing my Boston Marathon wind jacket as it is bright and the same colours as cool runners, see you all there.

Can anyone who has done this event before tell me what transport is like for the marathon?

My girlfriend will probably get a taxi to the finish at the Cadbury's Factory to see me finish. I have seen that there's a bus going back to the Mecure at 11:30am, but I hopefully should be done by 9am, so I don't really want to hang around for that long.  As long as there's taxis at least, or some form of transport.  We were thinking of hiring a car, but would like to avoid if possible?

Cheers

Dave

I'm planning on trying to get my first sub 3 hours, and was wondering from others whether the chance is there for me.  I ran Melbourne this year in 3:04:06, and felt that I probably didn't take the first half as hard as I should.  I know I have a sub 3 in me, just don't know the course too well, conditions etc.  If there is any people out there that are just under 3 hour runners, would love to be able to stick fairly close by your side!  Looking forward to hitting Tassie anyway, heard it's a great event.
gday,
depending on the course (hills) i am aiming for sub 3hr too. did 249 at boston in 2009, but will be closer to 3hr mark i reckon.

Joshy, there is one rise as you come back each lap, but only about 250m long, and not really a hill, then there is a hill within the last kilometre, but by then, so close you can feel it :)

Cool Josh.  I will be wearing a dark green top with a white visor.  Hopefully you'll be closer to the 3hr mark than the 2:49, I think you'd kill me if you ran that.  I know I can be a sub 3 runner though, just be good to have a tiny bit of help to push me along.  Cheers Dave

Welshy,

Not sure if you are lurking or too busy setting up for Sunday !!

The race website mentions 3 drink stations on course, can you describe where these are,
either by location or by approximate distance the first time past (for either HM or full Mara)?

Cheers

Hey Guys,

I'm here, just been running around getting everything ready for you all!

An email has just gone out to all participants, but yes there are 3 drink stations, a tthe Granada Tavern, Derwent Entertainment Centre and St Virgils College.  The email gives you the km breadown, but 6km to the first one is the furthest you will have to go before getting a drink.

Transport to the race start for the full marathon will be fine by car or the bus from the Mercure.  But for the half marathon, police will probably ask you to wait for the marathon runners to pass if you are after 6am (so try and arrive before 6am for the half marathon if you can).

Good luck everyone!  Feel free to come and say g'day to me on race day (I'll be running around pretending to look important).

Cheers

Welshy

I don't suppose we are going to get to see a video this year? Bobby S did a fantastic job last year.

Wishing you all the very best in your pursuits this weekend.

Good luck to everyone taking part in this event on Sunday.  One of my favourites, sad to be missing it this year
