I'm assuming these programmes aren't available until you enter. Not like the GCM programmes that are available on the site to all. Was hoping to start a programme and see how I was going before entering.

It will be the last day of our Christmas holdiays before we head back to site. We will have had about 2 weeks in Tassie by then. I hear the food is good down there. It may not be a PB event in that case.

Thought I'd drop in with an update on the Cadbury Marathon. Entries have been flying in, from all over the world which is great.
Early entries close today, so save yourself $10 by entering before Summer comes (tomorrow).
Once you enter online, you can also get access to the all new Marathon Training Schedules, as designed by Lee Troop. All entries in either the half or full marathon can access the free training programs.
One of the best value for money events in Australia, all entrants also receive; a chocka bloc goodie bag, new designed medal, free BBQ, access to free massages, access to complimentary ice baths in SKINS recovery area, a GU with your race number to take out on the run with you and a chance to win great spot prizes from Mizuno and SKINS.
Also, back by popular demand, the Cadbury visitors shop will be open during the event - so you can go in and get a bargain at Australia's best chocolate shop!

there was a chnage in the course last year (turning left at main road initially instead of right as per previous years)
- will this years course also be this format?

Hi Penfold,
Yes once again for the upcoming event, we will turn left on Main Road. The reason behind this is to do the Brooker Highway part of the course first, so the police can open up Tasmania's busiest road earlier. You guessed it, they tell us what to do!!

What is the temperature normally for the event and can spectators drive to different points to support us?

hi joshyg
as a local i would say that due to the 6am/7am start conditions are generally pretty good right the way through
(versus training in the hottest parts of the day)
those from the "north island" will probably tell you it is cool to cold
in my experience in past years most of the course is quite accessible - ie once you get out of the cadbury
state section you're fine which means they can easily see you from 4km to 20km - good on you for having
support around my other half had given it miss until the organisers had the bright idea of opening the
chocoloate shop while the event was on !

I've gone back through the thread and added those who seem to bre reonasbaly certain to enter. I mean no disrespect if I didn't add you, just wasn't sure.
And the other important stuff.....social events! What's been typical in recent years? Pre- post- ? Both? I will be in Hobart on my own from the Friday afternoon till the Monday morning and I am very keen to catch up with as many of my favourite people (aka Coolrunners) as possible during that period.

Good work. I will be in Hobart from the Friday as well with my wife. Last year I managed a pre race meal with Uncle Dave. It would be pleasant if something could be organised. I will have a car.

I am staying at the Marriott, won't have a car though but I am sure I will be able to find a way to make it to some place for pre- and/or post- festivities.

I am signed up for the full, it is my first (finally - a very long time coming).
I note that there are only between 100 and 150 entrants in the full course every year. Does anyone know if the course is quite obvious/ always well marked? I'm terrible when it comes to navigation and as I'll be toward the back of the pack (4hrs) I'm a tad worried about losing my way.

I ran it last year. It simple course to follow. After a short loop at the start it run up and down the highway a couple of times and then back to the start. I think it woud be very difficult to get lost

Saturday and Friday nights sound good, the Taste of Tas is over by then, but plenty of great eating places down here, and Simone, the locals are always good for a lift to a venue

Moved down as requested.
Yeah, it's probably the Mercure. They have buses to the start so I figured it would be easy enough to just stay there as well.
I am keen for either night, Friday/Saturday, even both!
Any thoughts on venues?

I'm originally from Hobart but I haven't been out on the town for a long while. Customs house is quite central and has a bit of old world charm: http://www.customshousehotel.com/

I'm also originally from Hobart and although I don't go out on the town much when I'm here, I always make sure I soak up the atmosphere of the waterfront area. Customs House is located there and is just a short walk from the many bars and restaurants of Salamanca Place and Salamanca Square, all with outdoor seating. I would love to meet others for a drink, preferably on the Friday night and can assist with transport as I have my car here.

Where: Customs House, Hobart
When: Friday 7 Jan 2011
Time: 6:00pm
That way we can have a drink to start and then if anyone wants to kick on and have dinner they can and if any don't, it's no big deal.

My girlfriend will probably get a taxi to the finish at the Cadbury's Factory to see me finish. I have seen that there's a bus going back to the Mecure at 11:30am, but I hopefully should be done by 9am, so I don't really want to hang around for that long. As long as there's taxis at least, or some form of transport. We were thinking of hiring a car, but would like to avoid if possible?
Cheers

Joshy, there is one rise as you come back each lap, but only about 250m long, and not really a hill, then there is a hill within the last kilometre, but by then, so close you can feel it

Cool Josh. I will be wearing a dark green top with a white visor. Hopefully you'll be closer to the 3hr mark than the 2:49, I think you'd kill me if you ran that. I know I can be a sub 3 runner though, just be good to have a tiny bit of help to push me along. Cheers Dave

Not sure if you are lurking or too busy setting up for Sunday !!
The race website mentions 3 drink stations on course, can you describe where these are,
either by location or by approximate distance the first time past (for either HM or full Mara)?

I'm here, just been running around getting everything ready for you all!
An email has just gone out to all participants, but yes there are 3 drink stations, a tthe Granada Tavern, Derwent Entertainment Centre and St Virgils College. The email gives you the km breadown, but 6km to the first one is the furthest you will have to go before getting a drink.
Transport to the race start for the full marathon will be fine by car or the bus from the Mercure. But for the half marathon, police will probably ask you to wait for the marathon runners to pass if you are after 6am (so try and arrive before 6am for the half marathon if you can).
Good luck everyone! Feel free to come and say g'day to me on race day (I'll be running around pretending to look important).
Cheers
