I seem to be spending a lot of time suggesting you Comrades runners *do not* run on Sunday... have a rest and use the massive aerobic base to smash the C2S when your body has had a chance to fix itself...
I do wish everyone running on Sunday, whether their first, 10th or 635th, have a great day - Bron, Kev, Bman, Jockster, I'm looking for some big results ...

Best of luck everyone, for Sunday's run. BK, we all know you'll power your way to the finish, in that quiet, understated way (!).

Sugar, I've run Perth the last 3 years after running Comrades and my times have improved each time. Did feel the effect last year but still ran a course pb of 3:05. A lot more confident this year with no Comrades in the legs. Comrade runners can back-up better than most as they run marathons in training on a weekly basis but if you're looking for PB's you are probably better waiting til the CITY-2-SURF.....
So I'd run Perth if you want too but don't expect to break any records...although last year Brett ran his first sub 3 at Perth after running a good Comrades 3 weeks previous..
keep running (just keep running) bk

My comment probably came over a bit snottier than I intended...I tend to be more conservative than most, and after training for Comrades, 42k doesn't seem like much. I do still think the muscle and collateral damage present is too much and the body would be better served by not running - sure, some can (and do) get away with it, and ultimately only the person who's doing the running knows best how they are feeling.
All the best for Sunday BK, bring that sub-2:50 bus home!

May have to look at farewelling plans on the sub 3 and doing likewise. Managed to pick up a cold from the kids on Wed night. Have rested these last two days (at home) but whilst I haven't been coughing as such it feels like it's more below the shoulders than above. Don't know how much I'll recover over these next 36 hours and as such a) whether I should just withdraw or
Granted it wasn't an A race but it was an opportunity to go for a sub 3 balancing work, family and other training commitments (just seemed to be falling at the right time not to get in the way).
Kids....grrrrr lol
Edit - #339, wearing bright yellow Asics DS trainers and yellow visor.

The way i was feeling yesterday i ruled out the sub 3.50, this morning i ruled out the sub 4, and at this point unless there is a miraculous turn around i wont be running, but encouraging and taking photos instead.
I'm a pretty stubborn guy when it comes to saying its quitting time, but i feel like someone has forced a roll of sandpaper down my throat and then hit me with a bat over the back of the head.
Lots of sleep ,vitamins, warm food, and trip to aquarium up at Hilarys with the family may do the trick, who knows.
Would be a good testing time if i can lace up the shoes, but hey i can always rest up and have another crack at C2S.
Good luck all who run, hope to see you there.
Cheers

Well after some short sharp runs and plenty of carbs its time to roll.
Race number has been pinned to shirt and bag is packed. Just a couple more rounds of muffins with honey and I'm ready.
Good luck to one and all, see you in the morning.

Made the decision to pull the pin. Cold has been giving me too much grief and there's nothing to be gained from staggering around, wheezing, waterworks in full flow, 30 mins slower than usual and probably 3-4kg more than I was on Wed (depression hungers!). Probably would have made the bug much more sinister.
10 weeks to the C2S I guess though it's cutting it fine for IMWA. Beggers cannot be choosers.
Best wishes.

I enjoyed the first 32k as usual and then hated the rest, as usual.
Personally I dragged myself in at 3:17.18 which was a nice 8 min pb so got to be happy. Iced my legs in the swan and then came straight home to rest. Really need to focus on good recovery given gero is in 3 weeks, so im sorry for not staying back to say hi and well done
I must say the last 7 k hurt like absolute hell and every time that happens it makes me respect you ultra runners so much. I couldnt imagine doing a comrades type distance
Hope you had successful days and don't hurt too much. Look forward to the reports
Cappy.

Finally finished in a PB 3:45:50.. Could have been 3:40 if I was a bit fitter. Great to run around Perth again. Definitely worth the trip over. Looking forward to a rest then the shoalhaven

TB, see what a slightly slower start does for you? You must've hit the lead and stayed there for more than 800m, surely? I couldn't keep up!
Well done to all of you with PB's. I went out to see if I could hang on to sub-3 pace, but had a few minor setbacks and realised at about 28km that I was going to be very unlikely to make it. Was anyone else hot today? Maybe should've had white skins? Ended up 3.05 - just missed winning my age group.
Time for a sleep...

Started off feeling strong - too strong and knew my first 10km pace would have me suffering at the end - and admit that last 5km felt like forever.
Must thank the gentleman that I kept changing leads with and urged me on along the freeway return stretch.
A big thank-you to the volunteers - it is a long time standing at one location, esecially if it starts raining.
Well done everyone!

Well done everyone... my first marathon ever in 4.03. Bit of a slow start (8 mins first k due to the congestion... had to laugh at the lady on a bike trying to push- the wrong way through 600 runners this side of the Windan Bridge saying "Get off the path").
Thanks vlounteers,
If your're out there Bart, how did you go?

So funny, I was the marshall at Windan Bridge and I told her to be careful that runners would be coming, and she replied "Well tell them to keep left then! Everyone else was lovely.

Right..where do I start..2:54:13 for me and I'm very happy to finally go sub-3 at Perth for the first time in 7 attempts..!
Not one of my favourite courses Perth because it is deceptably hard although it is so flat. You normally end up running by yourself (well maybe that's just me ?)and the run back seems uphill the whole way ! No worries a monkey off my back with the sub 3..only 3 more for my spartan number..
Right big shout to :-
Brett Coombs ..massive 2:56..awesome..Ron (gonetothepack), Mighty Mick Francis and Grant who backed up Bunbury, Kep and the Perth marathon in less than 4 weeks! WOW ! Jockster and Biscuitman for going under the 2:50 threshold.
After reading through the paragraph above I now realise what a perfect day it turned out to be for so many people...and that's why we run these races..
As for me ..did my racenumber 666 come back and bite me
until then racing, racing, racing...
keep running (but not tomorrow) bk

Cappy, sub 3 dreamer and I ran a 3.10 bus as well where sub 3 dreamer finished in 3.08, (his bus had a supercharger after 30k) 3.11 for me and the others just behind. I'll check the photos to see if you were in our group. Well done anyway, no issue fading slightly at the end, your only human.
Well done to Jockster going sub 2.50, BK on a course PB, Geoffa in the low 3's, John from SA with a 2.48, TB, who had me for 1.2kms, and especially all those who were out there for the first time and those who achieved their individual goals. Ended up with a pb which was odd, as i thought legs would be sore after placing fourth at the Kep 100k 2 weeks ago. Caught up with all the NSRG runners afterwards who all performed well.
Enjoy your recovery.

Hi coops. I'm going to guess you were in another group further in front as our bus most definitely slowed. Nobody was goin faster than 4:45's for a fair few ks on the freeway and I had them all in sight for some time. Unless of course you put a rocket up tour arse for the final 7k or so which is of course a possibility and a huge well done to you if you did! Please tell me where I can buy one of the rockets from for Geraldton

Well done to everyone today some great results.
1st Maraton done and dusted 2:57:29 ish (1:27:15 out 1:30:14 back).
Last 6kms certainly tested the character!
8 hrs or so since finish and although legs sore and feet smashed (7 black toes out of 10) I'm hooked, will start planning the next one soon.
I've had 4 pints on medicinal Guiness and I'm about to eat several pieces of medicinal deep fried chicken then sleep well!!

It was really good to catch up with the usual suspects, Epi,Clown ,Big K ,Jockster, Geoffa, Cappy, Gone to the Pack, TB and of course left the best for last Cooooops.
A big congrats to Geoffa backing up after the Comrades for 3:05:00 and and Coop's after the Kep smashing his PB by 3 mins 3:12:00
It was really nice to enjoy the last part of the run after really hurting so much in last 10klm's at Bunbury, I think I may have been a tad conservative today but interestingly I consistantly ran around of 90% of my max HR for the entire race. Not sure what it means but a small bit of trivia. Very consistant klm's .
Finally congrats to Coop's, and Jockster for their PB's
Hopefully see you all C2S in 7 weeks.
Missed the usual hug at the finish Sean.

Some great running out there today and the weather gods did the right thing. I found the whitish bike path along South Perth foreshore pretty slippery. Reckon it cost me a good 10 seconds
I was on the 3.30 bus, with only one passenger, which came in right on time.
On on to Gero.
