Sounds good to me. The more of us on the bus the better, especially the last 10k when it really counts and a bus is really useful for the mind

Hmmm, I'm a doubtful starter at this stage. My sports physio/massage/guru said he had never seen the muscle damage I have in my quads/hammies/calves, and despite massaging and pummelling, the knots didn't go, so he stuck lots of needles everywhere and tweaked them, which was F@#&*%$#@ing painful. Now I am having trouble walking. He also said that to run on Sunday would be downright foolhardy. But I didn't tell him that was my middle name, so who knows.

If I do make it, designer stubble is in!

I seem to be spending a lot of time suggesting you Comrades runners *do not* run on Sunday... have a rest and use the massive aerobic base to smash the C2S when your body has had a chance to fix itself...

I do wish everyone running on Sunday, whether their first, 10th or 635th, have a great day - Bron, Kev, Bman, Jockster, I'm looking for some big results ...

Jon, Great times and it looks like you're ready for a crack at opening the sub-3 door. I'd recommend going though halfway at 1:26-1:27 giving you a 1:33-1:34 return journey (it always feels uphill on the way back!)....As you say the last 12k will determine whether you can join the sub3 club but even if you falter you'll still get a great time and I don't think you'll crash with your experience racing this year. There'll be a few other trying for a sub-3 (sub3dreamer for one!)and I feel its important you run with a "bus" to keep you going..I'm sure on race day we can find a driver for you...good running buddy..maybe all those years playing rugby were wasted years and you've found your calling...

...I'll see you next Sunday...

keep running (and not playing with funny shaped balls) bk

Best of luck everyone, for Sunday's run.  BK, we all know you'll power your way to the finish, in that quiet, understated way (!).

Cheers,

Chris

Sugar, I've run Perth the last 3 years after running Comrades and my times have improved each time. Did feel the effect last year but still ran a course pb of 3:05. A lot more confident this year with no Comrades in the legs. Comrade runners can back-up better than most as they run marathons in training on a weekly basis but if you're looking for  PB's you are probably better waiting til the CITY-2-SURF.....

So I'd run Perth if you want too but don't expect to break any records...although last year Brett ran his first sub 3 at Perth after running a good Comrades 3 weeks previous..

keep running (just keep running) bk

My comment probably came over a bit snottier than I intended...I tend to be more conservative than most, and after training for Comrades, 42k doesn't seem like much. I do still think the muscle and collateral damage present is too much and the body would be better served by not running  - sure, some can (and do) get away with it, and ultimately only the person who's doing the running knows best how they are feeling.

All the best for Sunday BK, bring that sub-2:50 bus home!

Planning to buy a ticket for the 3.10 bus and hang on until my ticket expires..hopefully before 3.20 sometime...ok if I seek you guys out pre-race and sit in behind ?? :-) my race # is 271..white singlet

May have to look at farewelling plans on the sub 3 and doing likewise. Managed to pick up a cold from the kids on Wed night. Have rested these last two days (at home) but whilst I haven't been coughing as such it feels like it's more below the shoulders than above. Don't know how much I'll recover over these next 36 hours and as such a) whether I should just withdraw or B) how much I need to water down my expectations.

Granted it wasn't an A race but it was an opportunity to go for a sub 3 balancing work, family and other training commitments (just seemed to be falling at the right time not to get in the way).

Kids....grrrrr lol

Edit - #339, wearing bright yellow Asics DS trainers and yellow visor.

In the same boat but luckily caught my cold Monday, plenty of time for rest (in bed by 7pm ) and water and loads of drugs seem to have done the trick. Feel a lot better today. If it's a cold drug yourself up and sleep with total rest tomorrow....good luck.

Keep running ( away from those kids) bk

Aw....shucks, since you insist: a 1:26 (& a pb) Half mara a couple of weeks back!

You'll have to head over this way one year for the Gold Coast Marathon....a tad quicker course than the WA version, I'd quess.

As the last couple of days have gone by and my cold is taking root, i have been downgrading my goals as well.
The way i was feeling yesterday i ruled out the sub 3.50, this morning i ruled out the sub 4, and at this point unless there is a miraculous turn around i wont be running, but encouraging and taking photos instead.
I'm a pretty stubborn guy when it comes to saying its quitting time, but i feel like someone has forced a roll of sandpaper down my throat and then hit me with a bat over the back of the head.
Lots of sleep ,vitamins, warm food, and trip to aquarium up at Hilarys with the family may do the trick, who knows.
Would be a good testing time if i can lace up the shoes, but hey i can always rest up and have another crack at C2S.

Good luck all who run, hope to see you there.

Cheers

Nothing left to be done but run! My second marathon and defenitely not as nervous but we'll see tomorrow. Good carb pre marathon lunch with the girls and doubtful I will need to eat again for at least a week. Training has all been good and I'd love a spot on the sub 4 bus #428 but will live with the 4.10. The cold that came through last sunday is much better so only 5k done over the last week - was planning a gentle jog up to East Perth to assess the flooding but it won't stop raining.

TB, go hard son and lead the pack if only for a minute or two.

Good luck everyone!

Hope everyone who caught a cold has recovered. My wife came down with tonsilitis last week and the kids have been coughing and spluttering all week! Have managed to avoid to though thank goodness.

Well after some short sharp runs and plenty of carbs its time to roll.

Race number has been pinned to shirt and bag is packed. Just a couple more rounds of muffins with honey and I'm ready.

Good luck to one and all, see you in the morning.

BRING IT ON!!!!!

Good luck everyone.

Made the decision to pull the pin. Cold has been giving me too much grief and there's nothing to be gained from staggering around, wheezing, waterworks in full flow, 30 mins slower than usual and probably 3-4kg more than I was on Wed (depression hungers!). Probably would have made the bug much more sinister.

10 weeks to the C2S I guess though it's cutting it fine for IMWA. Beggers cannot be choosers.

Best wishes.

masterofnone that's a bummer but probably a good decison. I know if my cold had come on any later than it did I probably wouldn't be running. There is always Geraldton in early July.

geoffa im good for 500m and 90 seconds i think still. so id be happy to try and lead the sub 2 bus for 60 to 90 seconds but after that ill have to recover. when i was fitter i could do 600m to 800m (did some 2.23 800s in 2003/2004) and when i was only doing racewalking training in the early 1990s i was good for 1200m at 2.50 per k pace. Well done shredder!! Thanks loubee ! Looking forward 2 seeing all out there

Well done trailblazer. You were off like a greyhound.

I enjoyed the first 32k as usual and then hated the rest, as usual. :) There was a 5-6 strong 3:10 bus today or should probably say 4:30/km pace bus though not sure any/many were really expecting not to slow at some point and come in over 3:10. We hit a bit of a bump at about 28-30k and all slowed down a fair bit. One guy was able to maintain what I guess was a pace that brought him in around 3:12 (nice 2min positive split). The rest of us came in from there to around 3:18

Personally I dragged myself in at 3:17.18 which was a nice 8 min pb so got to be happy. Iced my legs in the swan and then came straight home to rest. Really need to focus on good recovery given gero is in 3 weeks, so im sorry for not staying back to say hi and well done

I must say the last 7 k hurt like absolute hell and every time that happens it makes me respect you ultra runners so much. I couldnt imagine doing a comrades type distance

Hope you had successful days and don't hurt too much. Look forward to the reports

Cappy.

Ditto about the last 7 km being crap. It's a bloody long way from the Narrows to burswood! Felt great for 32km then the freeway started to get to me then just had to tuff it out the last 5. Met trailblazer briefly at about 13km.. Looking like it was going to a long day for him..
Finally finished in a PB 3:45:50.. Could have been 3:40 if I was a bit fitter. Great to run around Perth again. Definitely worth the trip over. Looking forward to a rest then the shoalhaven
KOM in two weeks!

geoffa im good for 500m and 90 seconds i think still. so id be happy to try and lead the sub 2 bus for 60 to 90 seconds but after that ill have to recover. when i was fitter i could do 600m to 800m (did some 2.23 800s in 2003/2004) and when i was only doing racewalking training in the early 1990s i was good for 1200m at 2.50 per k pace. Well done shredder!! Thanks loubee ! Looking forward 2 seeing all out there

TB, see what a slightly slower start does for you? You must've hit the lead and stayed there for more than 800m, surely? I couldn't keep up!

Well done to all of you with PB's. I went out to see if I could hang on to sub-3 pace, but had a few minor setbacks and realised at about 28km that I was going to be very unlikely to make it. Was anyone else hot today? Maybe should've had white skins? Ended up 3.05 - just missed winning my age group.

Time for a sleep...

I thought itwas hot on the way back and even commented to a fellow busser, who agreed, but we were already fading so perhaps looking for an excuse ;)

well first Perth Mara, (3rd Mara in total) and a PB - but would expect that as first flat one I did.  On the Garmin clocked 42.52km for 4:17 - nowhere near as fast as many on here - but considering I went in feeling very underdone (planning holidays to Maylasia in the middle of training does not help) I was happy with my efforts.

Started off feeling strong - too strong and knew my first 10km pace would have me suffering at the end - and admit that last 5km felt like forever.

Must thank the gentleman that I kept changing leads with and urged me on along the freeway return stretch.

A big thank-you to the volunteers - it is a long time standing at one location, esecially if it starts raining.  :im Not Worthy:

Well done everyone!

Well done everyone... my first marathon ever in 4.03.  Bit of a slow start (8 mins first k due to the congestion... had to laugh at the lady on a bike trying to push- the wrong way through 600 runners this side of the Windan Bridge saying "Get off the path").

Thanks vlounteers,
If your're out there Bart, how did you go?

So funny, I was the marshall at Windan Bridge and I told her to be careful that runners would be coming, and she replied "Well tell them to keep left then!  Everyone else was lovely.

All,  What a great day of some serious PB's and some seriously good 'backing-up'...

Right..where do I start..2:54:13 for me and I'm very happy to finally go sub-3 at Perth for the first time in 7 attempts..! :Applause:  Splits 1:24 out 1:30 back...10k splits 38:31/39:57/41:00/42:50 and 42:36 for the last 10k (32-42k)..went out far too quick with Jockster and Biscuitman (who both brought it home in sub 2:50..well done lads..another club I need to get an invite too soon!)..suffered in the raffles to the turn around and back to raffles as I have every year.. Found some form on the Kwinana Freeway and the push for home from the narrows was bearable as I chased down Nera Jareb (1st female)..got to within 20-30 metres at the finish but considered it unsportman like to charge the finish with a young lady..(and I was well and truely spent!)... Legs haven't recovered from Bunbury and this became apparant at the 10k mark when Jockster and Biscuitman left me..thanks lads! :(

Not one of my favourite courses Perth because it is deceptably hard although it is so flat. You normally end up running by yourself (well maybe that's just me ?)and the run back seems uphill the whole way ! No worries a monkey off my back with the sub 3..only 3 more for my spartan number..

Right big shout to :-
Brett Coombs ..massive 2:56..awesome..Ron (gonetothepack), Mighty Mick Francis and Grant who backed up Bunbury, Kep and the Perth marathon in less than 4 weeks! WOW ! Jockster and Biscuitman for going under the 2:50 threshold. :im Not Worthy: ..perfect running...Geoffa..another course PB with no white skins, and backing up after Comrades..Coops..marathon pb 2 weeks after smashing the kep 100.. Jon (Caulfield) making a sub 3 on the first attempt look easy..Shane..making it look at tad harder but still going sub 3 at the first attempt...Chris O'Neill top 3 finish less than a month after Comrades...TB, nearly a PB after another superb start..the TB sprint gets everyone smiling and relaxes the front of the field..Phil "chicken legs" Selfe finishing his 18th Perth marathon and heading towards a red number..did it hard after the narrows and used all his expierence to get home (looking a tad worse for ware!) Calum..another PB so soon as Bunbury ..nice! Liam smashing the 2:50 and a top 5 finish, again so soon after Bunbury (I wish I was 10 years younger and this "backing up" races would be so much easier!)..

After reading through the paragraph above I now realise what a perfect day it turned out to be for so many people...and that's why we run these races..

As for me ..did my racenumber 666 come back and bite me  :diablo: ..I'm not sure..didn't get the sub 2:50 I was after but never found the need to sell my soul for the time I eventually got..so I'm still going to heaven and teach the big guy a thing or two about running....

until then racing, racing, racing...

keep running (but not tomorrow) bk

Well done trailblazer. You were off like a greyhound.

I enjoyed the first 32k as usual and then hated the rest, as usual. :) There was a 5-6 strong 3:10 bus today or should probably say 4:30/km pace bus though not sure any/many were really expecting not to slow at some point and come in over 3:10. We hit a bit of a bump at about 28-30k and all slowed down a fair bit. One guy was able to maintain what I guess was a pace that brought him in around 3:12 (nice 2min positive split). The rest of us came in from there to around 3:18

Cappy.

Cappy, sub 3 dreamer and I ran a 3.10 bus as well where sub 3 dreamer finished in 3.08, (his bus had a supercharger after 30k) 3.11 for me and the others just behind.  I'll check the photos to see if you were in our group.  Well done anyway, no issue fading slightly at the end, your only human.

Well done to Jockster going sub 2.50, BK on a course PB, Geoffa in the low 3's, John from SA with a 2.48, TB, who had me for 1.2kms, and especially all those who were out there for the first time and those who achieved their individual goals. Ended up with a pb which was odd, as i thought legs would be sore after placing fourth at the Kep 100k 2 weeks ago.  Caught up with all the NSRG runners afterwards who all performed well.

Enjoy your recovery.

Hi coops. I'm going to guess you were in another group further in front as our bus most definitely slowed. Nobody was goin faster than 4:45's for a fair few ks on the freeway and I had them all in sight for some time. Unless of course you put a rocket up tour arse for the final 7k or so which is of course a possibility and a huge well done to you if you did! Please tell me where I can buy one of the rockets from for Geraldton :)

Hi All,

Well done to everyone today some great results.

1st Maraton done and dusted 2:57:29 ish (1:27:15 out 1:30:14 back).

Last 6kms certainly tested the character!

8 hrs or so since finish and although legs sore and feet smashed (7 black toes out of 10) I'm hooked, will start planning the next one soon.

I've had 4 pints on medicinal Guiness and I'm about to eat several pieces of medicinal deep fried chicken then sleep well!!

Inspirational stuff guys. Kiddies entered the kids marathon and had the opportunity to see the first, second and third places cross the line. Also saw a few marathoners running alongside the freeway. Great to see and provided great motivation for my half marathon training!! Good job!!

Firstly ...again another well organised race by the WAMC anbd what perfect day weather wise, That tail wind after the turn around mark was heaven sent.

It was really good to catch up with the usual suspects, Epi,Clown ,Big K ,Jockster, Geoffa, Cappy, Gone to the Pack, TB and of course left the best for last Cooooops.

A big congrats to Geoffa backing up after the Comrades for 3:05:00 and and Coop's after the Kep smashing his PB by 3 mins 3:12:00

It was really nice to enjoy the last part of the run after really hurting so much in last 10klm's at Bunbury, I think I may have been a tad conservative today but interestingly I consistantly ran around of 90% of my max HR for the entire race. Not sure what it means but a small bit of trivia. Very consistant klm's .

Finally congrats to Coop's, and Jockster for their PB's

Hopefully see you all C2S in 7 weeks.

Missed the usual hug at the finish Sean.

Well another great day out running by the river. Thanks to all the volunteers and organisers who made this possible.
Some great running out there today and the weather gods did the right thing. I found the whitish bike path along South Perth foreshore pretty slippery. Reckon it cost me a good 10 seconds :Just Kidding:
I was on the 3.30 bus, with only one passenger, which came in right on time. :)
On on to Gero.
