Hey guys, thought I'd bring this up now before it get too late.... Is anyone interested in catching up for dinner (?and some drinks...) either the night before the marathon (Saturday 9th) or the Friday before it (the 8th)?

It would be an early start, early finish kind of thing and could be somewhere in the city or not too far out, so the country and interstate CRs could get there.

I'm not sure that much happened last year, but the year before that (2008), StellaBella organised a great night out for us at a pub in Richmond, on the Saturday night.  It was a nice pre-mara catch up and there was a pretty good attendance of CRs including some from interstate.

If anyone is interested you can put down your ideas here and I'm sure we'll all come to some kind of consensus to suit everyone (hopefully!).

But then again... I'm only doing the Half so it's easy for me to talk about having a night out!  :D

Friday night I am off to Mary Poppins after a meal with my brother in law.  However on Saturday night I would be interested in meeting with any one else who is running.

Interested, but would prefer the Friday (sorry everyone), but depending on where and at what time Saturday, I could still be in.
Lea - do you want to make a decision on time/place and everyone can opt in/out as they please.
Will certainly be up for post race refreshments though.

Don't need more shots chilliman - already had them to avoid catching anything vicious from a Collingwood supporter (my brother in law).

Sorry to inform you ifatbotp that there is no known cure or immunity from collingitius, although a loss to the mighty saints will help keep it under control until next season.

I would be keen to meet some fellow runners before the event on the Sat evening (have to clear it with the partner first of course).  I dont know Melbourne at all, we are staying right near the MCG in Jollimont Street (Road?), is the proposed dinner location easy to get to from there?

cheers

BG,

I'd almost forgotten the 'sheep story' at Comrades this year...I don't think that African runner will ever look at Australian runners the same way....probably spurred him on to a PB.!

We can discuss that over dinner Saturday evening...

keep running (while spreading stories about real men and 'pretty' sheep  :D ) bk

Ok, so it sounds like there's a few of us up for it.  Also looks like Saturday night might be the slim winner, and I agree that Cafe Italia has some good meals, particularly pasta.

So.... how about Saturday night, at Cafe Italia, for about 6pm?  If this sounds ok we could add our names here and at the end of next week perhaps, book a table (I can find out if longer notice is needed).

Lygon St is easy to get to for the out of towners and pretty central for the rest of us.  What do we think?

Hi All,

I called Cafe Italia this afternoon to find out some things...

There's no problem with booking large groups at reasonably short notice.  But, with large groups (more than ten people I think), there's a set menu.  There's a choice of four different set menus, and a choice of two mains to be chosen and served 50/50, or for a few dollars more everyone can pick their own from five choices within the set menu.  Make sense?

Here's the website so you can have look anyway: www.cafeitalia.com.au  (can someone cleverer than me insert this as a link?).

OR we can come up with somewhere else around the Lygon St area to eat, that might be a bit easier to organise and can accomodate everyone?

thanks for your homework ShufflingLea, you are brave for organising this  :D

I had a quick look at the set menus and I personally would prefer to know what I am going to eat than the 50/50 option, I also dont eat meat so really would be after a pasta or risotto (something I know wont upset my tummy the next day!).  Therefore I would be voting for somewhere I can order exactly what I am after.  Not being from Melbourne I have no idea of an alternative to suggest............

I dont want to upset the applecart here so if the majority are happy with the set menu then go for it and I will eat elsewhere and see you all at the Transport after the run  ;)

After a lot ofconsideration, I'm a no show for this one.
Saturday night I want to get home and rest up and at least TRY to sleep before the alarm goes off at stupid o'clock, and I know that going out the night before just won't work for me.
Thanks Lea for putting in the hard work to get it done, maybe I'm just being selfish this time, but I want to give this time (which once again will be my last marathon), as good a shot as I can.
I will see as many of you as I can at the start line, on the course, and back at Transport afterwards.

Ok guys,

I've made an executive decision.... How does DiMattina's sound, 306 Lygon St, at 6pm?

Here's their website  (finally figured out how to link). I haven't personally been there before but know lots of people who have.  The a la carte menu looks good (yay, no set menu!) and it's still in the same area that seemed to suit everyone.

Couple of problems... they (and probably a lot of other places) are filling up fast for that night so I 'locked' in a booking tonight, with a guesstimate of about 25 people, under "Coolrunning'. Hopefully that's ok?

And the other problem (may or may not be a biggie), they'd like us 'moved on' from about 8.30pm as they have later groups to accomodate as well.  Sounded fine with me given the early start everyone has the following day, but maybe there's some 'stayers' amongst us!

If it really doesn't sound workable, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem if I cancel in the couple of days or so (I didn't pay a deposit, but would like to be polite).

Over to you...

Ok guys,
I've made an executive decision.... How does DiMattina's sound, 306 Lygon St, at 6pm?
... I 'locked' in a booking tonight, with a guesstimate of about 25 people, under "Coolrunning'. Hopefully that's ok?
...  they'd like us 'moved on' from about 8.30pm as they have later groups to accomodate as well.  Over to you...

Brilliant on all counts Lea  ;) - please count me in

And if there are a few 'stayers' - they can always wander down the street to one of the (4 or 5) Italian icecream shops, and/or one of the 2 chocolate shops; and/or one of several coffee/cake/.... providers

Just found out about this... looks like i'm already on the list as a tentative - make it a definite!
I'm not actually running though but cheering is hard work!

Yay, really looking forward to this!  As well as the post- mara get together!  Keep forgetting there's a pesky 21.1 kms to run in between it all....

I called Di Mattinas today to confirm the booking (just paranoid I guess), and it's all good!  It's for 25 people (under 'Coolrunning') so there's probably still room for a few last minute deciders if anyone's interested...
