Jockster, I'm in for 4 for sure...not sure about Geraldton..and will do the 6 inch for sure.. Also what about Christmas Island Marathon...??? Will be a good crowd for that one. !! I'll be adding Melbourne and New York as well (and the 40 miler this weekend)...should make my 8 marathons/ultra's a year which is my normal target.
keep running (in as many events as possible) bk

I emailed Christmas island tourism about 2 months ago and they said nothing was planned at this stage. The local cricket club and HHH usually organise and everyone is flat out working 12 hour shifts looking after all their guests.
See you all Sunday.

Kev - you are just being slack though, I know you love racing and I can see why... After each race: 1 week recovery, 1 or 2 week training, then your famous 2 week taper or is it 3, and carbo load x 8!? then race again...!

Jockster,
What are you saying?? Are you implying that one needs to be older(er) and slow to race ultras? That's fighting talk mon!
mmmmmm..pressure, pressure...Paris (next weekend), Perth, Geraldton(?), Melbourne, Rotto(?), Six Inch (yes please). Sadly no Comrades this year, but potentially more std marathons in one year than I've done in 5 years...I must be getting old and slow.
All the best to those doing the 40 Miler this weekend.
See you all back here in late April. Will be running Bunbury HM as well.
Cheers

nah, I'm not tough enough yet for ultras!! If I could, I would... the day I get to the finish line of a marathon and wish I could run longer is the day I will take up Ultra running!
Good luck at Paris!!! Aurrivwar; See you when you get back!

Going for the longest version of all the ultras although I will probably miss 6 Inch this year to RD. Maybe join the TT you guys did last year a few weeks b4

Great effort Dave!! I had thought a grand slam was 5, but in actual fact it is 4... so that means you will have an Ultra Grand Slam!!
Meanwhile I reckon WA has an excellent running calendar and you don't even need to leave the state (although I am considering a Melbourne attack this year, not sure yet)
ps. Well done Dave, heard you had a smoking hot 3k - 9.20 odd...

Despite a very haphazard summer of training, I'm planning on 4 of the 5 WA marathons, plus 6-Inch. The one I would drop is a boycott of C2S, and am booked in for GORM the week before Bunbury - attempting the back-to-back hobble weekend!
If the planets all align, I'd love to go over to run Pichi Richi in SA in June.

The elusive Djefa...where have you been old fella.?..a DNS at the 6 inch last year and no sighting since...I can only assume a nasty injury? It'll be good to see you again big fella. Please note I have sped up a bit since we last locked horns so I hope you've got faster...!!
keep ruuning (or start running again?) bk

Yes, all of the above except 6-inch. I have only ever done one marathon per year for the last 2 years (C2S), but this year I'm going for a few to challenge myself as well as trying to do a sub 3:30.
I'm also doing the Singapore Sundown marathon the week after Bunbury purely because I'm there with work - got to take advantage of that, surely...? Actually, that's the reason I signed up to cool runnings, to ask advice about back to back marathons and recovery/prep in another post here
I'd appreciate it if any of you gyus can advise me on it in that post as I've been reading this WA forum for about 3 years and have a lot of respect for the common posters on here due to the incredible challenges and goals you've set yourself and achieved in the most part, and even more respect for those daring to go out in public in white skins
Anyhow, cheers. I'll no doubt see most of you in Gero.

Long distance events for me:
Bib Track record attempt, anywhere from 10-14 days, unsupported. Start date shifted from today to tomorrow (accidentally brought the work keys home and have to return them tomorrow)!
Would love to have a crack at the Kep first week of June, but really unsure as to how my body is going to be after a hard Bib.
Perth marathon
Maybe C2S. Not sure.....
Perhaps Anaconda, depending on the date.
Very keen on 6 Inch this year!
And perhaps as early as Christmas I aim to attempt breaking the current Guinness World Record of running from Cottesloe Beach to Bondi Beach (just over 4000km). Current record is just over 67 days.....
Anyway, first thing's first - bring on the Bib Track!!!

The first three came so thick and fast, it was hard to hard to think of anything else. Now there's a bigger break between them, I've got a little lazier. Nothing to worry about I'm sure as I have that good base and do feel like some longer rest was probably needed after three marathons in 7 weeks, but it does make me feel guilty for missing a run here and there. Especially when I missed a long run.
Oh well my nemesis, the c2s, awaits me so time to put the soggy shoes back on and get out there in the British weather we're having

Try stuffing them with newspaper in between runs but they will last longer with 2 pairs on the go anyway.
I use about 10 pairs regularly though it does drive my wife nuts;-)

So, one road marathon to go in WA. Who is on for the grand slam, as Grant put it?
Grant
Jockster
Myself
Anyone else? There must be a few more? Callum? Micky?
On a related note, anyone think a WA Marathon Series is a good idea, taking in all 5 current marathons and having a points system for series registered participants? I know the numbers would be small to start with but it could be a fun series and a bit of advertisement and (on course tshirts etc?) could help grow numbers? It could certainly help raise awareness of the Gero and Bunbury marathons
To de official, I suppose It'd need acceptance from the marathon organizers and I'm not sure how easy that would be for c2s, for example
Anyway, just a thought

We can discuss at Rotto, or sooner if you prefer
We can also work on Grant to sort out a Kalgoorlie marathon. I bet he is sick of me mentioning it now

Looks like I pushed myself too much this year. But I hit most of my goals, improved heaps, and have learnt a lot, including the need to rest
It's been fun chatting at the start and finish lines. Catch you at a shorter race sometime later in the year
Best of luck at Rotto everyone going for the 5

Sorry to hear that Cappy, you must've been running in some pain with a stress fracture. Give it a good healing time (I was going to say "break" but you may not have appreciated the pun) and we'll see you out there...

As someone who has watched you increase your speed this year and run quality races, and as someone who has had a stress fracture, two calf tears and a glute muscle the size of Serena Williams' butt recently, dont stress. It's a hard time off your feet but you will come back stronger, faster and smarter. See you out there soon.
Coooops.
