Normally kick this thread off after GNW, but will be away for a week or two, so getting it up early. Big news that owing to the success of last year's run, the 3rd running of this get together will be co-hosted with the BMMC. Looking for big things from the club hosting their first big marathon event.
Morning will kick off with the playing of the national anthem at the rangers hut. All present are encouraged to sing it loud and proud. This will follow with the full course being:
Ranger Hut -> Oaks Picnic area via MTB track -> Nepean Lookout -> Pisgah Ridge FT -> Oaks FT back to Bennetts Ridge FT -> Bennetts Ridge FT into Euroka Clearing/Darug Camping area -> Mt. Portal Lookout -> Tunnel View Lookout -> Glenbrook Causeway -> swim -> beers.
Owing to the extreme temps. we can get in January, I will organise an aid drop out at the Pisgah FT track head (you pass this 3 times on the full course) and in Darug Campground. This will break the run up into 3 fairly equal legs so you can refill water. Any non-running family or injured runners more than welcome to come out and try and exceed the aid station that was put together by Innes and co out at Pisgah Ridge last year - the frozen ice blocks were the best. We will organise a drop for the finish (couple of eskies) so everyone can throw their beers in to save walking back to the cars.
Australia Day is on a Tuesday this year. For anyone that is off on the Monday, I will head up in the afternoon and ride the course with a MTB and put some ribbon out to hopefully avoid people getting lost. It is a nice evening down in the campgrounds with a few beers and you can start the morning with a swim in the causeway before the run starts.
Last year was a super day out with about 50 in attendance and most stayed back for a beer and a swim. The course is not extreme in difficulty, but offers a good mix of single track, open trail, a few climbs, some nice views at the 3 lookouts and great company. It is the ideal tester for 6FT about 6 weeks later.
I have attached elevation chart of the course. I will attach a mud map of the area and google map for the full course - just having problems at present. Hopefully it will be just as good a day this year.
Cheers
Rod
