Time:      7:00am
Date:      26/01/2010
Location: Blue Mountains National Park, Bruce Rd, Glenbrook
Dress:     Incorporate Australian flag into your kit
Distance: Whatever you want, but full course is 42km

Normally kick this thread off after GNW, but will be away for a week or two, so getting it up early.  Big news that owing to the success of last year's run, the 3rd running of this get together will be co-hosted with the BMMC.  Looking for big things from the club hosting their first big marathon event.

Morning will kick off with the playing of the national anthem at the rangers hut.  All present are encouraged to sing it loud and proud.  This will follow with the full course being:

Ranger Hut -> Oaks Picnic area via MTB track -> Nepean Lookout -> Pisgah Ridge FT -> Oaks FT back to Bennetts Ridge FT -> Bennetts Ridge FT into Euroka Clearing/Darug Camping area -> Mt. Portal Lookout -> Tunnel View Lookout -> Glenbrook Causeway -> swim -> beers.

Owing to the extreme temps. we can get in January, I will organise an aid drop out at the Pisgah FT track head (you pass this 3 times on the full course) and in Darug Campground.  This will break the run up into 3 fairly equal legs so you can refill water.    Any non-running family or injured runners more than welcome to come out and try and exceed the aid station that was put together by Innes and co out at Pisgah Ridge last year - the frozen ice blocks were the best.  We will organise a drop for the finish (couple of eskies) so everyone can throw their beers in to save walking back to the cars.

Australia Day is on a Tuesday this year.  For anyone that is off on the Monday, I will head up in the afternoon and ride the course with a MTB and put some ribbon out to hopefully avoid people getting lost.  It is a nice evening down in the campgrounds with a few beers and you can start the morning with a swim in the causeway before the run starts.

Last year was a super day out with about 50 in attendance and most stayed back for a beer and a swim.  The course is not extreme in difficulty, but offers a good mix of single track, open trail, a few climbs, some nice views at the 3 lookouts and great company.  It is the ideal tester for 6FT about 6 weeks later.

I have attached elevation chart of the course.  I will attach a mud map of the area and google map for the full course  - just having problems at present.  Hopefully it will be just as good a day this year.

Cheers
Rod

Rod do you go in and out on Pisgah Ridge FT? the reason I ask is because each time I have followed that trail to the end i have encountered thick scrub getting up the other side. It does however bring you out on a track that leads you back to the Bennetts Ridge FT.

Wonderful scenery, and like Brick said, great get together at the weir afterwards.

That Elvis Costello song springs to mind  "I can't stand up for falling down..."

I am going out there this weekend and every weekend for a month to practice not falling over.

So by the time I get to run with company again, I will have it licked...

You can count Bert & I in for this one, especially if one of the criterias is being able to stack it constantly. We can do that 'hands down'.!!   Look forward to seeing everyone.

Just as long as it's not one of the "If you don't like it, get out" themed pieces that I saw at Coogee on 26 January

That idea has crossed my mind before pug, but yeah, not the most flattering of running attire I imagine. Maybe good for swimming afterwards though

You'll be amazed at the number of strained hammies and dicky knees that'll pop up on about the 24th or 25th, so they'll all just have to run slowly too...  :D

This is on the calendar!!!  It sounds like a lot of fun, and a great way to get some proper trail running in before 6ft.

I won’t be wearing a bikini or mankini, nor budgie smugglers though. It would be (..in your best Pauline Pantsdown voice please…) “UnAustralian” to inflict that painful sight onto anyone on the run!!

I will have tattoos and flags I think! And I will bring some kanga-bangers for the bbq at the end to share!

NTR,

I am trying to work out whether kanga-bangers are Unaustralian or Veryaustralian???  Noone has brought a BBQ in the past, but if someone wants to take on the job, more than welcome.  Maybe a little portable one, some rolls and sauce - keep it very simple.

Well done girls, great aussie spirit shown with the flag bikini tops.  Will try and get a roving fashion reporter to judge the best dressed on the day.  Will have to make sure we have someone taking photos out at Pisgah Ridge drink stop as the runners come thru.
