The Maroubra 4 kms and 8 kms runs are on this week. I think that CoolRunning are the holders of the 8 kms team title (or was that the year before - the years go so quickly these days!). Are we going to defend / reclaim our title?
This run has attracted a little bit of criticism about its organisation over the last couple of years but I for one enjoy the run and accept that it is manned by volunteers doing they best they can. Great social atmosphere after the run too with a market and fete in full swing. -------------------- |

And completely off topic (but as I am the only person contributing, it doesn't really matter), both the above posts have post number 796. Does it only count once per thread?

No John - it just updates the total number of posts you have rather than stating what number of posts you were up to at the time you, well, posted. If you have a look now, all 3 posts are now numbered 797. Poor explanation I know; I need to find myself a coffee...

It will be lonely all by myself. You can take the age group win John. I'm doing the Adventist Fun Run instead this year due to having to be at my surf club by 11am. Since that is on the north shore it was a bit hard to get to with the 9:30am start of this one. Nice race though on the two loop course. -------------------- |

Belinda will be accompanying Tim around the 4km John so you won't be all on your lonesome.
I will be down in Canberra running down some hills in the Brindabella Classic. Good luck. Hope you can get on the podium. -------------------- Nothing is impossible..................follow your dreams and make them happen

John,
you're correct, Coolrunning is the defending 8Km teams champion. Sorry I can't join you this year; have a good run. It is a scenic hilly course for those interested in a good run. |

Hey John,
I'll be there, last minute entry due to unstable planta faciatis. Mr Lynde also running and a few junior Lynde's thinking about it. Looks as though the weather will be kinder to us this year. Last year was a scorcher. See you there Lyn |

Hi John
I was going to be out at Nepean doing a practice swim in my Spiderman outfit, but now I'm thinking I should be doing this instead, since it's a whole 800metres from my front door. Ken the lurking coolrunner will also be there, but we were thinking to do the 4km. I'll see who's there on the day and try and make up at least 1 coolrunning team. I was too slow last year to count, and probably slower this year. So see you there at the sign in area, we need to hand the forms in together if we want to register as a team. -------------------- formerly LoneWolf, RunningWolf. Really enjoyed the run. I really died on the second lap going from 15.30 to 16.20 but amazingly no-one went past me and I even managed to stagger past a couple of people who blew up more than me. Certainly a pretty testing course although Jeremy Horne didn't seem top notice the hills. By 3 kms he was streets ahead of even the 4 kms runners. Nice cool weather and well marshalled too. I wasn't able to hang around for the presentations which was a shame. The full Lynde tribe was there (at least 5 out 6) and all looking pretty good too. Glen Gielessen was winning the 4 kms when I last saw them - not sure if he held on to the end.

Hi Run Wolf Was that you I passed in Broome St (Maroubra Fun Run) .I spoke to this guy in a Spiderman's outfit, asking him to toss me with his web to the finish.I had grey hair, longish blue shorts - great style! PS. I won the 61-70 age 8km |

Yep that was me Haggis! I recall you well, thinking that this guy must be bludging if he can have a conversation with me while his running.
I went to do a warm down lap looking for my Coolrunning Cap. If anyone sees a coolrunning cap in the streets of Maroubra I would really appreciate getting back. Besides losing my cap, it was a great day. My little boy had a ball dressed as Superman too. (Note to self, remember to use tape on nipples before triathlon next week, new Spiderman suit is not kind to sensitive bits) Special congratulations to Ken who was expecting to run 16:30 for the 4km and did 14:52. -------------------- formerly LoneWolf, RunningWolf. Well ran Run Wolf, meant to mention that I live in Maroubra, near the fire station! Hoping to do either the Mt Wellington half marathon (uphill) in late november, or the Entrance half. Problem is, I've only been back in training for a few weeks, after 6 months knee problems (too heavy weights). Anyway, good luck in tri next week. |

I started off next to a guy in a Spiderman outfit. Must have been you, Run Wolf.
Is it just me or is there something a little unnerving about having a fun run sponsored by a Funeral Parlour? Even more so as it starts and finishes next to a rifle range! -------------------- |

Had a great day once again at this fun run. Really well organised.
Mr Lynde took out 41--50 age group My Daughter took out overall female winner of the 4km and 16-20 years age group. Two sons also brought home trophies one got third in 16-20yrs and the other second under 12.The three kids also entered a team and won that. I managed 4th female and won 41-60 female age group. The weather was great this year but that hill is unforgiving. As I got down to the turn around for the second loop I thought to myself Why didn't I just do the 4km. The second lap was very nasty indeeed. Back for more next year Lyn |

thanks to RunWolf for the compliments on the 14:52. This year is turning out rather well. Im sure the main reason are our 'steady' runs on tuesday morning that always have me gasping for air.
i'm a little suprised by the lack of support for this run. great location. well marshalled. I'm not a fan of the 2 lap thing but the 4k with the long hill is a real challenge. genuine good vibe among the runners and great to see so many kids out and running. everyone in the eastern suburbs should come along and support this event next year. |

The Maroubra run is on again this weekend. I'm a bit torn between this run and the Sri Chinmoy run on Iron Cove Bay. I really enjoy Maroubra but have also been toying with the idea of organising a run for my local primary school at Iron Cove and I would like to see how Sri Chinmoy organise things on the day. The timing may actually enable me to go down to the pre-race at Iron Cove to see how things are set up and then head off to Maroubra to run.

Great day out. Beautiful weather and what seemed like a huge crowd. I would guess that there must have been 500 runners and walkers today. I coudn't stay for the presentations but the administration seemed to be bearing up under the weight of numbers from what I saw.
The run hasn't got any easier and I reckon the council have added a few degrees to the incline of the hill since last year. Either that or I'm geting older and slower which I can't believe. -------------------- |

I agree lovely day for the run yesterday.
Great to meet up with John Dawlings before the run. You warned me about the hills being tough - and they were. The kids on the course high fiving everyone was good fun too. The bagpipes at the start added to the atmosphere - it made for an interesting song stuck in my head for the run. |

Those kids made me feel like I was a real "athlete"!! The run was just so hard. It was so hot that I got sunburn all over my shoulders and back, which has never happened to me before when running. Both my fiance and I agree we would rather do the Blackmores half marathon than this 8kms.....The hills are not very steep but are just so continuous. It also "messes with my head" when I reach the start/finish line but I am really only at the half-way mark. Every year I think "Why didn't I do the 4K then I would be finished?!" I do think this is a fantastic training run though. Carla. -------------------- BLOG: www.MissPinkyInSydney.blogspot.com

I had such a good time at the run...I can honestly say that it was the first time I really had fun on a fun run (since taking up running this year). I think it was the combination of having someone to run with - I talked my brother in law into doing his first ever fun run, and placing NO pressure on myself in respect to time - since I'm pregnant! I didn't even mind the hill...I think that is 'cause, not knowing the course, I thought we had to run UP Broome Street which made Malabar Road seem like a holiday! I've even committed to do it next year as my first run back post baby! This post has been edited by Daisy: Oct 16 2007, 09:03 AM |

Hi All
Did 8km, thought it was a bl..dy shambles this year. I have done 12 or so, and up to last year, never had one negative complaint. The emergency vehicle kept following us on the second lap, screaming out the window to keep on the pavement! By this time, all the hundreds of walkers were still on their first lap, and were right across the pavements. On the last massive downhill, they demanded us to keep on the grass, which was far too dangerous at the speed reached! (came 2nd 61-70) Every other year, we were told to keep just inside the red cones and the pavement. I know it is a fun run, but since we pay to enter... I might look for another run next year, even although I live in Maroubra. The rest of the festival was terriffic I know that competing is different for joggers than racers, but when you have put in a tremendous effort... Might do Bulli 22km 'mountain' run this weekend. See Ya |

Hi All,
I did the 4km last week and enjoyed it but found that the course verged on the ridiculous! I was interested in running to see what sort of time I could do over 4km as I haven't done anything less than 10km or HM distance for a while but discovered it wasn't a great course for a time trial. It seemed as though it was uphill for about 3km and then the last kilometre included a downhill section that was more like a cliff! I decided to save my knees and eased up down that slope as it was so steep I was concerned I'd damage my knees if I sprinted. Having said all that it was good fun and I really appreciate the effort put in by everyone involved... I hope they raised plenty of money. Does anyone know if the results for this event are published anywhere? If I do this event next year then I think I'll approach it as just a fun training run to do with friends. Rabbits |

This is not a run to take seriously and break PB's unless you are up the spiky end looking to win or get one of the (many) trophys on offer. It is a community 'fun' run and providing everyone participates in the spirit its a great event. The weather was brilliant. The ocean swim afterwards felt superb (as did the german sausage roll and beer). I ran 17min+ - over 2 mins slower than last year. Did I care? Not at all. You got bagpipes at the start. You got a genuine rock and rollin politician starting the event. You got to climb a hill and sweat in the wonderful sunshine. Maroubra is a definite on my calender every year.

There are some pictures up at http://www.maroubrachamber.com/ but no reults as yet. I assume this is where they will be put.
I haven't checked out the sponsor's web site but as this is a funeral parlour (something that really creases me up) I wouldn't expect the results there! -------------------- |

This is on Sun 19th Oct 2008. Is anybody doing this??
I am doing the 8K and I have been running the course twice a week for the last couple of months so I hope it's easier than every other year!! They also have timing chips this year, which is exciting and they can post this out with your bib if you get in early enough. I am too silly to know how to attach a link but it appears in the CR calendar. The Oktoberfest they have at the start/finish area is cool....german beer, food and entertainment right at the beach. -------------------- BLOG: www.MissPinkyInSydney.blogspot.com

I'm doing it! But only the 4k. I haven't been running for a very long time so I'm using this as my first goal. I'm a bit too embarassed to wear my coolrunning cap though as I don't look cool and don't look like a runner but if I see anyone else in theirs i'll give them a 'go coolrunner'!
I've signed hubby up for his first fun run too but given him the 8k challenge |

It is a great way for us to identify each other and the "cheers" you receive can really give you a "boost" when you are struggling. CR's come in all different shapes and sizes and we are all of differing running ability and that is exactly what makes CR so awesome.....that EVERYBODY belongs! Don't be silly Daisy!!!! I am certainly not cool and I look more like an overweight front rower than a runner but I just LOVE wearing CR gear. It is a great way for us to identify each other and the "cheers" you receive can really give you a "boost" when you are struggling. CR's come in all different shapes and sizes and we are all of differing running ability and that is exactly what makes CR so awesome.....that EVERYBODY belongs! Good luck to you and your hubby for this run!! Thanks Miss Pinky...maybe I will dust off the blue and yellow afterall! |

I should be there for the 8 kms. This is a really enjoyable run with a great festival atmosphere. Heaps of stalls etc for the kids (including those kids who are well into their 50s).

I received my bib and chip in the mail yesterday so I am all set to go for Sunday. I am very happy it is organised this way now so I don't have to head down early to get my bib.....lazy sod that I am!! At $16 a pop, this race is a real bargain.
I ran the course the other night (along with many others who appeared to be out doing the same) and I am very upset with whoever it is that keeps increasing the size of the inclines each year! Sunday is predicted to be quite hot, so I will have to remember my sunscreen....and maybe my respirator! Good luck to everybody running in this. (For anybody not having run this, it isn't really that bad....I am just a drama queen!) You can register on the day (from about 8am I think) and your entry (under 16 years) will be $8. It starts and finishes at Arthur Byrne Reserve, which is just next to the South Maroubra Surf Club. Yes it is a pretty tough course (for me) but I am sure you won't have any worries at all! There is a long incline up Malabar Road but it really is not that steep.....it just feels it! Then you have a steep downhill going down Broome Street. The 8K course is just 2 laps of the 4K course. They have an Oktoberfest at the end, which has food, drinks, entertainment, etc so it's a fun day. Hope to see you there! -------------------- BLOG: www.MissPinkyInSydney.blogspot.com

WildCoyte Hey WC Well done on your run today, sub 15 awesome! I agree about the start time, 9.30 is just too late especially given the conditions today. An 8-8.30 start would be much better. I was originally going to do the 8k but changed my mind given the heat, and I am so glad I did. The thought of doing another loop up that hill Aswell as the earlier start, I would also ask the organisers to consider a staggered start for the runners and walkers rather than have everyone start at the same time. Whilst some walkers are sensible enough to self seed at the back, a lot were right in the middle of the pack which made the first k very congested. I was hoping for a sub 20 time but was about 30 secs slower due to a bad start. Lovely to meet up with you and your mum WC, and also MissPinky and Jason. Oh and MP I was serious about Canberra - you have heaps of time! -------------------- To 6 Foot and beyond!

Hi kiddoes, I've been MIA for a while, but I entered in for this one as well, and I saw quite a few CRs but no names on anyone
Well done to everyone who entered! The heat did slow me down a little bit but over all I enjoyed the experience. I was a bit disappointed the presentation ceremony was pushed back. It would have been less of a problem if either the german band or the other entertainment shows were on, instead it was all food! I ate way too much and got way too burnt! |
