Just wondering if anyone has an unusual post run drink? I find I've got Gatorade in the house but if I've had a really tough run them my body is just screaming for a ginger beer sodastream. It's got 100 cal/litre and 23g sugar as compared to regular flavours which are 150 cal/35g sugar.

Sometimes a cold low fat choc milk just hits the spot that nothing else can.  My favourite brand is Nippy's.

I'm similar TB, though for me it's a choc protein 'milk shake' with ice.

Big W, mate, but all of the stores carry syrups, big w, Kmart, target, there's a good 10 full strength varieties floating around (plus lots of sugar free).

Point of note - it's different to Ginger Ale. The Ginger Beer has much less sugar and comes out a cloudy light brown colour, the ginger ale is regular-levels of sugar and comes out a very dark brown (both are tasty, but ginger beer is tastier).

Big W Chermside definitely has ginger beer.

Bickfords Ginger Beer concentrate is also ok - at lots of supermarkets.  However I now try to just drink water.

Soda Stream Ginger Beer is so nice.  It tastes like real old fashioned homemade ginger beer.  Without the 6 weeks wait and exploding bottles of course.

Protein drink or a low fat milk seems to work best for me as a post work out meal.
A good balance of protein and carbs seems to work well at building and repairing muscle mass.
I also like to drink vegetable juices with spinach or kale in it mixed with water or coconut water, chia seeds and protein powder, teaspoon of super green powder, teaspoon of magnesium powder added to it.

I had water from a church tap the other day, that was pretty special.
Usually i will down some endura or hydralite first and then i really like a cup of tea with sugar after a run or lately i am enjoying bunderburg diet sasparella .

There was a fellow many years ago, a religious type, who could turn the water into wine. Don't know if it was white or red wine though. Apparently he did a lot of walking, some of it on water.

In this heat my new addiction has become banana "icecream".  Healthy, simple, cheap, feels like a treat--- oh and frigging awesome when your overheating.

Blend frozen bannanas with a splash milk (full fat dairy or coconut).  Then make different flavors like:
   -  Vanilla Chop Chip (add vanilla powder in the blender then stir through cocoa nibs when done)
   -  Peanut Butter and Raisin (stir through peanut butter and raisins)

Can have straight after blending (soft serve type consistency) and/or freeze any leftovers for next time.

Always remember the Beer Van after completing the Berlin Marathon, a couple of Beer Steins of the local brew later and it was a pretty wonky walk back to the Hotel where I was staying.

I no longer feel able to claim a couple of stubbies as a post run carb snack as being the healthy devil I am, I now drink Big Head, Australia's only carb free beer.

It doesn't stop me though.

Every run is different for me:

Long weekend runs if in a group are usually followed with water and a long black coffee.  Fast lunch time runs are usually followed with a pepsi max or a coke zero (terrible I know but eh I like them).  Its track session tonight and that is usually followed by water and then a chocolate protein shake.

Today: whey. Not because of its alleged healthy content (proteins, vitamins, minerals), but thanks to my (failed) attempt to make mozzarella. Mozzarella doesn't melt, but I actually don't mind drinking the whey. Nice as a base of a soup, too...

Buderim Ginger make a pretty awesome Ginger Refresher cordial that tastes great with the soda water from the Soda Stream! I also have an Elderflower cordial I mix into the soda water. I'm not one for making up the full amounts of Soda Stream soft drinks because I don't drink enough of them, but do drink a LOT of soda water at this time of year. I'll drink some kind of electrolyte replacement after a particularly hot and sweaty run. Also love my smoothies, but only after I've already cooled down a little.
