Well we got up at 7.00 am today, put on running things, with timing chip embedded bib pinned on the freebie T Shirt (organisers should avoid these heavy cotton T shirts and offer XS as many runners like me and my partner find the S too big and the Material too heavy to run in). But the morning had that little nip of autumn and the run started at 8.30 am so it was fine today. The run is 2 laps, with a bit of a hill on the 1st km and 6th km, I kept a beady eye on the Garmin all the way as its all too late to try and make up at the end what I lose from loafing midrun. Hardly ever dropped below 10 km per hour except up hill, so knew I just had to keep going and sure enough 58 mins on Garmin (on the official timing clock it may be about 57m 58s but will see online on Tues). So Pace was 5.43 and av speed 10.5. I don't have to look back thru my diary to know that is my best run of 2012.
I had been a little unsure of how well I might run as we went on a beautiful bushwalk yesterday from the Mt St Gwinear tobogganning runs carpark to the Mt Erica carpark, a distance of about 16 km. Lots of steep stairway type bits, would be good practice for 6 ft track, and very wet tracks mostly. We did it in the best order as the scenery as we came through Mt Erica and the Mushroom Rocks was spectacular. At the top of Mt Erica runners need to check behind the top to find the cairn memorial to Gippsland marathon runner Geoff Watt (father of Olympic cyclist Kathy Watt). The inscription is quite simple "Geoffrey Mathieson Watt. Marathon Runner. Perished while training on this mountain (Mt Erica) 5th September 1969".
Anyway I was tired last night and couldn't watch the telly too well as the double vision threatened again. So got to bed nice and early, itch was low key, slept well.
We were walking with the Ben Cruachan Walking Club, as it was our second walk since joining less than a month ago. A member of that Club, Frank Hoskin was actually the person who found his body . I suppose if I suddenly died out on a long run I also would be hard to find as I don't use a written schedule etc. The exact cause of death remains unclear.
