1. The start venue has changed as per the SC website "All races start from the Lawn 5, Princes Park, Royal Parade, Parkville (Melways Ref 29G11). This is a new venue from previous years and is located 400m north along Royal Pde from the Northern Pavilion."

I have run this the last four years and it is a well organised good run.
Pancakes & great organisation are a bonus as well!
I will do my own 30km run early instead.
Enjoy

Should be a nice backup to the Bundoora CC the day before.

The 30km of this one fits neatly with my training schedule for the Melb Marathon in October, so I hope to meet you there. I have promised myself to stick to the pace set in my schedule (4:56 per km) rather than go flat stick for a good time, so slow and steady wins the rce for me. I'm looking forward to doing what would ordinarily be a solo training run in a group atmosphere.
I have a question that I hope someone may be answer for me. The website/entry doesn't mention anything about bag storage. Am I therefore correct in my assumption that there will be no such facility/make your own arrangements? Hopefully someone will be "in the know" from previous events.
Thanks in advance

I haven't done a Sri Chinmoy race in a fair while but from what I remember they always look after bags and all that. I think they just write your race number on a tag and attach it to your bag.

Ran the 30km last year in 2:38, would go for a 3:00 finish this year and use it as a training run for Shepparton.

Is anyone catching public transport into the event?
I've looked at metro and it seems the earliest train wouldn't get you into the cbd and out to the event on time?
Does anyone know of any other alternative apart from driving?
Cheers

I just realised yesterday in the Run Melbourne half that I was running at marathon pace and, as I haven't done anything less than a half this year, I think that this will be a good opportunity. I will probably still do a 20+k run on the Saturday so I don't expect to be running a PB - even though this is a course where I have achieved other relatively fast runs.
It also means I will get to the pancakes before any of you 30k runners.
Oh - and that I will be able to cheer you on

Don, we both know you're a faster runner than I, so if anyone will be keeping an 'eye on' it will be me on the back of your head

No, 30 is a bit of a gamble Michael. You certainly have got a case of the running jinx at the present though this set back shouldn't affect your longer aspirations. Maybe consider joining us at Shepparton (half) on the 26th Aug. Take care....

Always lovely to catch up with you PL. I look forward to receiving a bit of cheering - I may need it.

Unfortunately our public transport is no good for getting to early events on Sundays. Somebody on here was promoting some "ride share" website, but I don't recall the details. I'll be coming from the SE suburbs if people don't mind putting up with my crappy stinky 4wd

Confidence a bit down after a couple of weeks trying to shake this cold/flu, but got through about 21kms last Sunday relatively unscathed.
Will try to hang on to 5min kms, but the bus may need a co driver or two.

I have only had my flu for a few days. I hope that doesn't turn into a few weeks! Went for my first run last night after 3 days on the sidelines and I battled out a slow 6km. The run took place at Princes Park to hope its ok to mention under this thread

Thanks Bruce. With my entry confirmation I received notification from SC that the times for 21.1/30 k'ers would start at 8.30 AM. I emailed the organisers this morning and just received this reply (and have amended my earlier email accordingly) :-
Hi Michael
Sorry for the confusion, I was unaware that the confirmation email had different details. All events start at 8.00am, I will be confirming this in an email with other details to all entrants in the next 24 hours.
Sunday's weather is looking good!
All the best

After heavy debates (with myself, mostly), I've decided to enter the run. It's been a long time since I've done an organised run so I'll be looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere again - and considering princess park is my regular running ground I just couldn't resist.
20k for me, and will be looking to crossing the line at 1:40(ish)..

The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was brilliant, and Sri Chinmoy's organization was as great as its always been.
Did the 20k, which I think might have been a little ambitious considering that I'm doing 1 run a week of about 12-15k, but felt like a challenge.
As it is, I finished it (sore), in 1:35:38 (according to my timing..)
So I couldn't be happier. Saw a few fellow cool runners and got to say hello to a bunch of lovely people..
Will be looking forward to the next one!

I was expecting around 2.35 today as I have not run much since traralgan and surprised myself with a 2.27. I have not run anywhere near that fast since traralgan and if I had of gone out yesterday for my long run I would have just plodded along.
I really enjoyed my first Sri Chinmoy Event.

Happily I felt comfortable all the way around and came home in 2:22, about 6 mins faster than my goal, so very pleased.
A really good crowd, atmosphere and organization. Just a pleasure to run on days like this.
My next "organised" run is the 30km event at the Tan Ultra in a few weeks. Hope to see some of you there.
Safe running.

And unfortunately no, I didn't receive a podium finish as was initially the case. It appears that my friend Peter's result was not included in the medal tallying. Honestly, I didn't deserve one either, with a below par run (about 5 mins. off the pace). This in itself is not a problem, as these races are all in preparation for the biggie in October. I tried something today, it didn't quite come off but I still finished with a lot of determination (and a slight limp after). Once home I had a 'hot' bath, refuel, a glass of red and I should be right for an easy 'jog' tomorrow (and a little wiser).
On reflection, what was important for me today, was not only the joy of the run but to do so with a great group of training buddies/friends who regular encourage and inspire me to be my best (Kim, Wendy, Pauline, Tony, Murray, Don, Shaun and Bruce). With an average age of 50 I think we're all pretty remarkable.

Combination of things: 1.Longest run since September lat year, and with a couple of weeks laid low with man flu, didn't get the required runs at correct pace to maintain it.
2. It started warming up, and I should have grabbed a drink before 22km when I started to feel the pinch
3. ITB starte to play up at about 27km, and I just couldn't run much of the last out and back over the small hill
4. Probably had the edge taken off by a tough 12km XC race yesterday.
But it's not all doom and gloom. I'm not running a marathon any time soon (certainly not this year), so I can keep my long runs at an easy maintenance distance of around 22-25km and be comfortable doing so.
Good to catch up with many of the regulars too.

I went to Thailand and "relaxed" there for a few weeks in June, and since returning had only done a few 13-15km runs and Run Melbourne half marathon last week, so I knew after the 23-24km marker it would get tough.
I went out slow to protect a few injuries which ended up being fine, and finished in 3:07. A lot slower than last year's 2:38, but i'm still very happy to have run it and get the first 30km run out of the way before Shepparton marathon. Feeling fine today, I've got a sore foot but it's nothing new really.
Great event, once again Sri Chinmoy put on a fun day with great volunteers and lots of smiles along the course to keep us going. A girl on the 3km drink station was an old friend my younger sisters who I recognised so every time I went through i had a chat for a minute, was also great to have someone to look forward to seeing every lap when I was running by myself!
Great time Lyricnz too!

It was also great to meet other Cool Runners and join with many of my Sunday morning running buddies for pancakes and post race celebrations.
Big thanks to Michelle for her encouragement every lap and to Tony for generously pacing me up to 24km's, even when I slowed for a drink at 10 and 15km's,
Definitely on my calendar for next year - but not necessarily the 30km.

Granted, out of 25, but still - gotta be happy with that.. Single digits are always encouraging.
