Who is planning on doing this one? It's been a while since I have run 30km but if my next few Sundays go well then maybe I will give it a go. My pace will be no quicker than 5.30 per km though.

Have pencillied it in. If I pull up OK from Bundoora the day before (and Mrs TB's birthday party the night before), will try to crank out the 5min bus again.

Will have to miss it this year due to other commitments, but this has been a very well run, reasonably low key, great atmosphere run in the past. Good timing and distance for Melbourne Marathon preparation.

I'm a maybe...... I last ran this in 2009 so I have a time to try and better and it may offer some insight to how I'm travelling for MM in Oct. Sri Chinmoy Princess Park - 22 July

Have pencilled it in myself - I had a 24km long run scheduled on that day anyway, so doing it with drink stations and pancakes sounds pretty good to me :)

Its on the same day at the You Yang trail races.   I have entered the 15km, so I will be doing that (as long as my foot comes good)

Next year I will have to have a go at the 30km

This sounds pretty tempting.

Is it hard surface all the way or some gravel?

I did the 30kms last year I think its about half gravel, half asphalt from memory.

might do something here, just not sure what yet!

About 50% gravel, 50% bitumen from memory, maybe a bit more gravel.

I've just entered the 30 k for this event and noticed a change from previous years.

1. The start venue has changed as per the SC website "All races start from the Lawn 5, Princes Park, Royal Parade, Parkville (Melways Ref 29G11). This is a new venue from previous years and is located 400m north along Royal Pde from the Northern Pavilion."

Yesterday I managed 25km so I would say I am a good chance of being ready for 30km in two weeks. Looking forward to it.

I can't make this unfortunately. Last round of kids footy.

I have run this the last four years and it is a well organised good run.

Pancakes & great organisation are a bonus as well!

I will do my own 30km run early instead.

Enjoy

OK, I've entered the 30km.

Should be a nice backup to the Bundoora CC the day before.

Hi all

The 30km of this one fits neatly with my training schedule for the Melb Marathon in October, so I hope to meet you there.  I have promised myself to stick to the pace set in my schedule (4:56 per km) rather than go flat stick for a good time, so slow and steady wins the rce for me. I'm looking forward to doing what would ordinarily be a solo training run in a group atmosphere.

I have a question that I hope someone may be answer for me. The website/entry doesn't mention anything about bag storage. Am I therefore correct in my assumption that there will be no such facility/make your own arrangements? Hopefully someone will be "in the know" from previous events.

Thanks in advance

I haven't done a Sri Chinmoy race in a fair while but from what I remember they always look after bags and all that. I think they just write your race number on a tag and attach it to your bag.

Well once again I will have to miss out. Came down with the flu and had training interupted so I don't think I will be quite ready to take on 30km.

All the best to everyone participating.

I am planning on entering but it really depends how Im feeling friday/saturday and I'll enter on the day.

Ran the 30km last year in 2:38, would go for a 3:00 finish this year and use it as a training run for Shepparton.

Hi All,

Is anyone catching public transport into the event?

I've looked at metro and it seems the earliest train wouldn't get you into the cbd and out to the event on time?

Does anyone know of any other alternative apart from driving?

Cheers

I am thinking about doing the 10k.
I just realised yesterday in the Run Melbourne half that I was running at marathon pace and, as I haven't done anything less than a half this year, I think that this will be a good opportunity. I will probably still do a 20+k run on the Saturday so I don't expect to be running a PB - even though this is a course where I have achieved other relatively fast runs.

It also means I will get to the pancakes before any of you 30k runners. :Smug:

Oh - and that I will be able to cheer you on :Applause:

Don, we both know you're a faster runner than I, so if anyone will be keeping an 'eye on' it will be me on the back of your head ;) It'll be good to see you.......

No, 30 is a bit of a gamble Michael. You certainly have got a case of the running jinx at the present though this set back shouldn't affect your longer aspirations. Maybe consider joining us at Shepparton (half) on the 26th Aug. Take care....

Unfortunately our public transport is no good for getting to early events on Sundays. Somebody on here was promoting some "ride share" website, but I don't recall the details.  I'll be coming from the SE suburbs if people don't mind putting up with my crappy stinky 4wd :)

Bit the bullet and decided to enter the 30km now rather that wait until the day.
Confidence a bit down after a couple of weeks trying to shake this cold/flu, but got through about 21kms last Sunday relatively unscathed.
Will try to hang on to 5min kms, but the bus may need a co driver or two.

I have only had my flu for a few days. I hope that doesn't turn into a few weeks! Went for my first run last night after 3 days on the sidelines and I battled out a slow 6km. The run took place at Princes Park to hope its ok to mention under this thread :)

After missing a 10km PB at Run Melbourne by 2 seconds, I think i'll come along and have a crack at PP. We haven't had a Sri Chinmoy pancake in s couple of years so we're overdue. Mrs Wombat is planning on a 5km. This is all assuming we get our butts out of bed!

2. The 10 & 5 k events will start at the usual time of 8.00 AM but the 21 and 30 k's at 8.30 AM. Probably a good idea.

Correction, all events start at 8am according to the website.

Thanks Bruce. With my entry confirmation I received notification from SC that the times for 21.1/30 k'ers would start at 8.30 AM. I emailed the organisers this morning and just received this reply (and have amended my earlier email accordingly)  :-

Hi Michael

Sorry for the confusion, I was unaware that the confirmation email had different details. All events start at 8.00am, I will be confirming this in an email with other details to all entrants in the next 24 hours.

Sunday's weather is looking good!

All the best

My body has pulled up fine so I'll definitely be running the 30km. I've got a friend joining me for the last 15km so he'll help pull me over the line.

Good luck to everyone else running!

I can either go outside and do my long run now or run tommorow morning with lots of people and drink stations etc. Princes park it is. Not fussed about time just going to enjoy the run.  :Peace:

Hiya,
After heavy debates (with myself, mostly), I've decided to enter the run. It's been a long time since I've done an organised run so I'll be looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere again - and considering princess park is my regular running ground I just couldn't resist.
20k for me, and will be looking to crossing the line at 1:40(ish)..

Had a fantastic run, and am so glad I entered.
The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was brilliant, and Sri Chinmoy's organization was as great as its always been.
Did the 20k, which I think might have been a little ambitious considering that I'm doing 1 run a week of about 12-15k, but felt like a challenge.
As it is, I finished it (sore), in 1:35:38 (according to my timing..)
So I couldn't be happier. Saw a few fellow cool runners and got to say hello to a bunch of lovely people..
Will be looking forward to the next one!

So glad I did that today. I had no idea I was in such esteemed company with Wendy,Kim,Pauline amd Michael all being podium finishers,a big congratulations . Spent the first 13km running with kim. From 20k on I just focused on pushing through those hard bits and maintain a good pace and I ended doing the last 10k in 45.46 mins.
I was expecting around 2.35 today as I have not run much since traralgan and surprised myself with a 2.27. I have not run anywhere near that fast since traralgan and if I had of gone out yesterday for my long run I would have just plodded along.
I really enjoyed my first Sri Chinmoy Event.

What a delightful morning for a run! It was supposed to be a steady 30km training run for me, but after pulling up really well from the Run Melbourne HM last week I found myself solidly put in front of my goal pace and decided to stay there.  I
Happily I felt comfortable all the way around and came home in 2:22, about 6 mins faster than my goal, so very pleased.

A really good crowd, atmosphere and organization. Just a pleasure to run on days like this.

My next "organised" run is the 30km event at the Tan Ultra in a few weeks. Hope to see some of you there.

Safe running.

A bit of a grind for me today, after only running once since Run Melbourne (Man Flu!). Started out OK, but every KM slower than the last, including too many over 5:00 :( Finished in 2:24 about 5 minutes off where I needed to be, but still 6 minutes better than last year.  PB, but not feeling on form.

I'm with you Don. A day like today will be just perfect for MM on 14/10. You don't have any contacts by chance :Praying:

And unfortunately no, I didn't receive a podium finish as was initially the case. It appears that my friend Peter's result was not included in the medal tallying. Honestly, I didn't deserve one either, with a below par run (about 5 mins. off the pace). This in itself is not a problem, as these races are all in preparation for the biggie in October. I tried something today, it didn't quite come off but I still finished with a lot of determination (and a slight limp after). Once home I had a 'hot' bath, refuel, a glass of red and I should be right for an easy 'jog' tomorrow (and a little wiser).

On reflection, what was important for me today, was not only the joy of the run but to do so with a great group of training buddies/friends who regular encourage and inspire me to be my best (Kim, Wendy, Pauline, Tony, Murray, Don, Shaun and Bruce). With an average age of 50 I think we're all pretty remarkable.

Tough one for me. After hitting the 5min target for the first 15kms with Pauline, we picked it up a little and found ourselves running low 4.40's comfortably. Sadly at  just after 24km,  iran out of petrol, and limped home in 2.29
Combination of things: 1.Longest run since September lat year, and with a couple of weeks laid low with man flu, didn't get the required runs at correct pace to maintain it.
2. It started warming up, and I should have grabbed a drink before 22km when I started to feel the pinch
3. ITB starte to play up at about 27km, and I just couldn't run much of the last out and back over the small hill
4. Probably had the edge taken off by a tough 12km XC race yesterday.

But it's not all doom and gloom. I'm not running a marathon any time soon (certainly not this year), so I can keep my long runs at an easy maintenance distance of around 22-25km and be comfortable doing so.
Good to catch up with many of the regulars too.

Was a really tough day out for me. I knew I was under prepared and it would be a slog, and it really was.

I went to Thailand and "relaxed" there for a few weeks in June, and since returning had only done a few 13-15km runs and Run Melbourne half marathon last week, so I knew after the 23-24km marker it would get tough.

I went out slow to protect a few injuries which ended up being fine, and finished in 3:07. A lot slower than last year's 2:38, but i'm still very happy to have run it and get the first 30km run out of the way before Shepparton marathon. Feeling fine today, I've got a sore foot but it's nothing new really.

Great event, once again Sri Chinmoy put on a fun day with great volunteers and lots of smiles along the course to keep us going. A girl on the 3km drink station was an old friend my younger sisters who I recognised so every time I went through i had a chat for a minute, was also great to have someone to look forward to seeing every lap when I was running by myself!

Great time Lyricnz too!

I really enjoyed this run and the Princes Park course was much more enjoyable than I had expected.  The surface was great with only short sections of bitumen.

It was also great to meet other Cool Runners and join with many of my Sunday morning running buddies for pancakes and post race celebrations.

Big thanks to Michelle for her encouragement every lap and to Tony for generously pacing me up to 24km's, even when I slowed for a drink at 10 and 15km's,

Definitely on my calendar for next year - but not necessarily the 30km.

I believe we might have met as we looked for the starting line..!
If so, it was a pleasure. :)
