Thank you for making improvements to this year's marathon, especially getting rid of that concrete hell aka the City West Link.
Two points I'd like to make:
1) I didn't see anything in your plans to ensure cool weather conditions on the day.
2) What type of construction will the Hyde Park bridge be? Not a Maccabian one I hope.
3) Please ensure you provide a good quality finisher's running singlet; not a thick cotton t-shirt again.
4) Did you consider taking the marathon all the way down to Bare Island at La Perouse and back along Anzac Pde, or possibly starting the marathon earlier and going through Port Botany oil refinery and taking advantage of the 3rd runway.

I live near Southampton. Hope you enjoyed The Brighton Marathon it seems to have had good reviews.
Thanks for the course profile for Sydney, its hard to get an idea of scale on such a long race when the course profile is so squashed up. On a scale of one to ten how hilly do you think it is?
Near Southampton - might that be Chichester? Done London and Paris as well (2003) and whilst Sydney feels a hillier City, the actual marathon course looks fairly flat - a few gentle hills - I'd say it was pretty similar to the other two or only marginally worse. My first marathon was the New Forest back in '91 - a bit further along the coast from you - now that was hilly, for a road marathon. But I think I'll be competing - my first marathon since 2003 now ITB issues are behind me.
Good luck

Harder than both gcm (2 out of 10) and melbourne. (4 out of 10). I would say 5 out of 10 for the new course. Find them all on mapmyrun and look at the elevation profiles.

I hope to do the bridge run again this year.
A question for Wayne Larden -
as one of those in the under 50min group
who was caught behind all the other groups at last years start,
will you been able to prevent it happening again this year?
Other than the start it was a great event, the volunteers and everyone else involved are great.
Hi there
We are hopefully going to solve the problem with the Bridge Run start from last year by separating the C group for all races and holding them on the side street under the Harbour Bridge (where we previously held the media and police vehicles). That will allow us to have only the A and B groups on South Alfred Street and thus separate them much more effectively.
Thanks
Wayne

I've searched the website but can't seem to find street by street directions, or approximate km markers, only the map. Does anyone have a link for this? I'd like to familiarise myself with the course on the weekend.

It is not up yet. I think they are yet to officially measure this new course so it is yet to be finalised. Why don't you build your own on mapmyrun, print it out and take that with you?

Correct. We only have approximate km markers so i'm reluctant to put them up until we do the official measure. That is taking place at the end of this month and it will take another week before we have the full maps with km and aid station locations - but then they will be 100% accurate. So first fortnight of June they will be up.
Many thanks

I just got on that mapmyrun site, it's pretty awesome. I just can't work out how to pull off the course profile. Any advice? I also noted that when I mapped it there was a finish distance of 43k or thereabouts - not sure why. We may be altering some of the turnaround points when we do our measure so that may allow us to get it the same distance as what's on mapmyrun but you never know when technology is involved I guess. If anyone can send me the profile I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

There is a checkbox in the top right hand corner of the map "Elevation".
That's what you want to click.
Can you post a link when the official Map My Run map is up?

Hi Lardbucket
This is possible technically, although we haven't done it in the past, as you can imagine the administration is a little time consuming if we get a lot. However, as a Cool Runner we can sort that out for you. If you feel you have improved considerably between now and a few weeks out contact the office and ask for a change of start groups. Probably best to do that by emailing us at e: info@sydneyrunningfestival.org
Cheers

Another one for you. Will there be training guides etc posted on the website? At the moment the training link refers you to the Blackmores Fitness and Energy community (which is all a bit generic really) or to join the FaceBook group, but when one isn't a Facebooker .....
There was stuff on sydneymarathon.org in previous years wasn't there?

Ive done Melbourne before and jokingly suggested my friend last time I was in Sydney (from Adelaide) we should do the Blackmorehs HM, which he agreed. Today he decided we should do the full marathon an if we dont finish so be it. He has not done more than the City to Surf before so I went along with the idea. But is it feasible? Is it better to enter the half with the likelihood of success or go for glory and have a good chance of not making it...but we just might? I believe 5.30 is the cut off?

Yes, I can confirm that we will once again be providing an integrated ticket (free travel on public transport - trains, buses and ferries) on the day of the event. Simply show your chest bib. We are also securing additional bus services from the Northern Beaches and I believe there will be additional train services.
Cheers

Hi aDrain
Blackmores will be hosting the training programs, I agree they aren't tailored for the serious runner necessarily and they are really there to cater for the masses.
If you want one of the previous years programs I think I still have them so can send one through to you to follow if you like? Email me at wayne.larden@pont3.com and I'll sort it out for you. Let me know which event you want to train for and what category you would class yourself as (advanced, medium, beginner).
They were designed by Pat Carroll so they are pretty comprehensive. I'm also happy to post on CoolRunning if there are others who would like to download (assuming I can attach documents??).
Let me know all.

Hi again
On the facebook stuff, if you can (or any others) join up, it is being monitored by Peter Brett, a nine times world cross country rep and Comm Games 10k rep - so he can answer any specific training questions you may have in the leadup to the event.

Thanks Wayne, have emailed you. Personally I think that would be a good idea to post them on CR. There are always training program questions, not just for Sydney.

Struggling with the same motivation issues here! Much easier to train when you have an event to aim for. 1 hr 44 is a great goal to have.

I know its a complete pain, but are they really stuffing people up months in advance, or giving fair warning (I really can't believe I'm "defending" cityrail).
I'd suggest stuffing up is to tell you a few days beforehand?

I agree with the definition aDrain, but for those of us who are wholly reliant on public transport, it feels like they are stuffing up our day/s anyway. And yes, I fully understand that trackwork and maintenance are necessary evils in order to have good transport the rest of the time. But sometimes knowing that its going to happen doesn't prevent it from being a pain -Cityrail has an amazing knack for scheduling trackwork on the weekends that I have to travel..
Anyhow.. I just got off my butt and entered the Half like I've been meaning to for weeks. My second HM. Hoping to crack 2:15.

Best of luck.
I'll be entering my second Syd Marathon, having not done it since 2006.
Looking forward to the course changes and always love running through Oxford St getting cheered on by the boys, girls and those in between.
I've stacked on a lazy 15-ish kilos since my last marathon in late 2008 so I'lll be hanging on for grim death with the 4:30 pacer.
