This is going to be my first 'race' - I decided this afternoon to enter the 5km.
It's almost at my doorstep so I can prob walk there to warm up, run 5km (ish.. haven't done 5km nonstop off the tready yet) then walk home to cool down. Pretty sure they're running the same direction as last year - finishing in Healesville.
Should be a good day, I'm prob biased but it's a gorgeous area to run.
Cheers,
MrsH

G'day Mrs H,
Good luck with your first funrun, you couldn't have picked a nicer run to to except for those hills you need to negotiate, but I'm sure you are well aware of them living nearby. Last year the run was from Healesville to Yarra Glen, each year it swaps.
Enjoy your run!

I missed your earlier post, for some reason I thought it ended in H'ville last time.
I think YG to here would be 'easier' as it seems more downhill in that direction, but that is based on driving it!!
Hope you have a good run

I completed the course in 1hr26min so I was happy with that.
I will do it again next year, I think it will be a bit easier going the other way

That hill was painful, I overtook plenty going up because I didnt stop but half of them took me going down as I am careful with knees going down hill.
I have been running up victoria rd lilydale as part of my training but still, 10km in it was tough work.
Feel alright now, might have something to do with a couple of beers under my belt

Beer cures all!!! Great effort today in the testing conditions YarraValleyPlodder! Lets spare a thought for those getting up bright and early for the Burnley half marathon on Father's day. Poor buggers probably didn't get to enjoy a beer this evening.

I dips my lid to you, 63min, very impressive. TeamEgan have left me in their wake, just like the run melbourne. I think I saw you pass me on that one, today I think you must have started before me as I never saw you on the road.
Enjoy your fathers day, I for one will be

Not a fan of the hill just past Tarrawarra though. I was running up thinking "just get to Old Healesville Rd, just get to Old Healesville Rd" and when I did realised the hill went past it!
I really enjoyed the run! According to my Garmin I ran all but 140m of the course so I am stoked! Finish time 0:34:32.5..
Bring on the Melb Marathon 10km (and some training b/w now and then)

Can I presume your doing the full melbourne marathon?
My knees struggle once I get to about 45km in week, so I dare say I am "fun" runner, so I may see you flying past in the next grape run. I am seriously impressed by Teamegan's speed and edurance, a great effort

I was planning to, and have entered the Full Menourne marathon. Unfortunately after Saturdays run, I'm starting to realise my son Jason is struggling to cope with long distances. His condition is deteriorating and he seems to get tired quicker these days. When I started running, it was only because of one reason and that was to give my son an interest. I was never a runner, but now have the marathon bug and would love to run the full marathon. But as a loving Father of my disabled son, I will be doing the right thing by him and down grade our entry back to the half marathon. You may see Team Egan starting to run in more of the shorter funruns in the future.
You sound like you are doing well just to be out running. I take my hat off to you if your knees are struggling and yet you still get out there and run. Good on you, even if you are running shorter distances, running is definitely very addictive.
See you at a future event, maybe the City to Sea.

I used to do a lot of pram running with my non-disabled kids and my daughter got sick of it when I was running 90km per week and taking her out for 70 of those...
there's a point at which they cease to enjoy it.
though they pretty much always enjoyed races. more to watch. They still talk about a SC 10km race at Willy and eating apple crumble while sitting on the Aths track, and being my cheersquad that I had to push around the course. "Go Dad, beat the blue man..." (blue man wasn't going to be beaten . I guess being beaten by a guy pushing two kids who are old enough to talk would be a tad humiliating..)
I hope you have more pleasant pram pushing ahead of you, and admire you for separating your interests and your sons.

Thanks Rohan.
I agree about kids getting sick of being pushed around, it does gets boring for them once they get older. This is not the case with Jason, as at home he gets very frustrated sitting around the home. Jason is unable to communicate, but it's clear he still loves being pushed around as he will cry in frustration at home until I take him for a run around our 5km block and then he becomes very settled again. He still loves the running, but unfortunately he appears to become tired when we run for too long.
I've always wondered the reasoning for parents pushing their kids in prams in events. Is it because it is the only way to be out there running as there is no one to look after them? Their kids are like Jason when younger and love being out in the fresh air being pushed along? The challenge of running and pushing a stroller? Or a combination of them all? Either way you have to take your hat off to these parents as it's hard enough running let alone pushing a stroller and then there is the challenge when the child becomes unsettled when you're half way through a run.

If I left my wife to look after the kids for the morning while I raced then she was not entirely happy.
If I took one or two children then she was happy and I was happy. I just had to start aiming for 'pram PBs'. Kids enjoyed it so long as I had them properly dressed for the cold, used the plastic shroud, or whatever.

Yes, the key to a happy life is a happy wife.
Couldn't agree with you more Rohan!!!

I started running to lose weight (23kg so far) and got into running and exercise (my wife jokes its the only addiction I have had that my doctor would approve of
This keeps me fit but I dont beleive I do enough km running to do the half & full marathon so I have decided I can cope with the 10km & fun run distances while looking at some bike rides and hoopefully a triathlon before summer is done.
I wont be doing city to sea as I will be doing the eastlink ride with some guys from work (poor timing)
I wish you well on the shorter runs, it will give me an opportunity to be left in your wake more often
I think what your doing is fantastic and if Jason gets a buzz out of running with his dad then I guess that more than makes up for the buzz dad gets from completing the full marathon

I was watching your son after you passed me on Sunday. You seemed to catch up to me out of nowhere as I was already slowing down in the heat, but then stuck 5-10m behind you for a little bit until I was too stuffed to keep up. At a time in the race when I was already struggling, watching your son relaxed me and reminded me of the simple things in life. He had his left arm hanging down straight almost touching the ground and was staring at his hand as it swung gently. He looked very relaxed, and it reminded me of being a kid and staring out the car window at the ground watching the road blur by...kids have that special knack of making you happy, I never expected to feel it half way between YG and Healesville...please tell Jason I said thanks

I'm glad Jason gave you a lift half way through your run, I know he gives me my lifts all the time. When I'm struggling through a run I just have to have a look at Jason and see him so content and happy, when if anyone who has something to complain about, it is definitely Jason. He just takes everything in his stride and is very easy to please. I almost feel like I'm cheating when I push Jason running.
I will definitely tell Jason for you AussieDan, and next time don't be scared to say G'day.
