Great effort JD. You looked really strong and focussed as you stormed past me along Kent St on Lap 2. Head cold got the better of me today and the heart wasnt really in it. struggled along for the second lap and thought I might miss sub-100 at one stage. Not overly disappointed to finish in 96.25. Fantastic event as usual.

it was my first half in 4 years after i stopped running. was hoping for a 1hr50min during training with a sneaky aim of 1hr45min.
after a good start hitting the half way in 54 minutes was feeling alright- but hickson road was the end for me. i had nothing after that and i think i ran the last three kms in about 20 minutes.
in the end my net time was around the 1.55 mark.- happy because i finished and acomplished something i set my mind to six months ago. dissapointed because i was running 10km in 45minutes a couple of weeks ago in training and was feeling great
on the bright side i reckon by the time melbourne comes around in october if i am not struck down by the running gods my pb of 1hr 44m will be in danger
congrats to everyone who went out there and did there best - i have enjoyed reading the posts about the journeys
PS was I the only one who thought it was a bit like pinball and that i ran an extra km or to sideways perhaps staggrered starts could be the way to go on those narrow streets- you could have four or five starts up to 7 minutes apart with maybe four time groups based on previous race times- for the amount of money we pay to enter this event it would stop people who are walking in lines of five across within the first few km

I really enjoyed the race once again. I thought I'd be doing some run-walking, having just got over a heavy cold, but the wonderful feeling of the event carries you along and I ran the distance. Very happy with that.
I love the opportunities that you get to see the race leaders on this course - always inspiring.
Nice to meet Laimelde and Emma100 on Argyle St (you can have my medal too Emma) and lovely to chat to PlodBod who I hadn't see for ages. Also ran for a while with BeesKnees (couldn't miss her in those colourful shorts of hers).
Congratulations to everyone on your results - especially thomo coming back from injury and LuckyLegs, another amazing PB.

What a great morning.
Limited training due to workload and health.
Was aiming for 60min first 10km followed by 70mins remainder.
Managed 58 minutes followed by 73...yes, I did fade bigtime but was just pleased to have entered and finish.
Nice to meet and run for a while with Olmy...sorry you didn't break 2 hours and I hope you managed to get the texter off your arms.
See you all at the next event with some training under my belt.

Was a fantastic day though, and the day just kept getting better, I got home to watch Michael Katsidis win his WBO world title and then walked (slowly) up to rehydrate at the SCG and watch the mighty Rabbitohs lap the Tigers. Webber winning the F1 capped off a great day/night.
The ankle is bloody killing me now though lol

For a gal who did it in 2.08 last year that was reaaaaallly slow... but you know what? I'm happy with this time, because all last week I was debating whether I should run as my dear daughter had infected me with a horrible cough.
As far as the actual slow run was concerned though, I had a ball. I ran the first 7 kms with Frank Dearn a 76 year old Striders legend. He really inspired me. At Hickson Road, Sooki passed us and I called out hello!
Then I chugged along and did the next 10km with another Strider Bruce. We had a great chat along the way, so I wasn't feeling too bad in the lungs.
At the 20km mark my legs were feeling heavy and I knew 2.20 was gone so I just wanted to make sure I didn't completely lose the plot and get over 2.30. Well I finally managed that one!!!
I am inspired by all the fasties on here, but gee it seems a distant memory for me to try and break my first goal of a sub 2 hour half. Maybe I will just have to train a bit more than twice a week going forward!!!
I enjoyed the atmosphere of this race and didn't care that there was no food at the end. I didn't even check. I was just happy to meet up with my Dad and we had a lovely breakfast at David Jones.
I know that this was my slowest race but as far they go, it was still a good day out for me!!
Cheers,
Stav

A just reward for running every one of the SMH Halfs to date JD. You should be well set for the Macleay River mara next month on the strength of that time. Maybe it was those brand new Vomeros that helped give you the cutting edge?
I managed a 91:24 which was a 1:35 PB so gotta be happy with that. Just need to convert that into a new mara PB now...either the GCM or M7 I reckon.

That young man Harry Summers ran a great race running his heart out behind the ever so consistent Marty Dent ,and looks to have a great future at the distance.
With my being injured the family pride centred on the likely performance of my son Michael.
He ran really well at age 51yrs+ chasing his age group winner,Keith Bateman, who at one month short of his 55th birthday raced an outstanding 1.11.54 in 17th position. The run of the race in my humble opinion.
Michael trailed him through the "10K" time pad by about two minutes(KB in 32mins+)but fell away to finish in 49th place with a creditable 1.17.21.
No worries about finishing behind a legend such as Mr Bateman, with whom I had the pleasure of a too brief conversation after the race.
Congrats again to that other legend,Luckylegs, unbelievable.

Happy to have just 'finished' the run this time but i'm thinking the next half marathon I do I will plan a bit more and run it in more of a race format. The slow and consistent stroll through was good and I was still very buggered by the end but I know there's more in the tank and I don't think there is a better test of character than trying to push beyond the limits of the tank anyway!
Couldn't have asked for a better start to what will hopefully be a long and illustrious distance running career!
I might also say thanks to everyone for providing some tips to do with preparation and what expectations to have of the run in the last couple of weeks, it was really helpful!!

My original goal had been sub90 and I was on track till about 15kms. Not too unhappy, it was over a 2 minute PB and I had lost most of March through injury.
The MC announced my arrival at the finish line, I had tried to hide behind a beard but he still recognized me... damn celebrity status

...all in all, happy with the performance. Bumped shoulders with a few people who couldn't comprehend the meaning of "keep left" towards the end of their first lap...but better not elaborate too much, lest the ipod debate fly into full force again!
Some great performances out there yesterday.
Good to see the endurance of Harry Summers is improving. He'll go far.
KB - unbelievable. Just keeps getting better.
Flakey - Well done mate. I'll keep my fingers crossed for that much anticipated sub 3 in Christchurch.
Good to catch up with some regulars and make a few new acquaintances post-race too.

Was great to run with Slowmo near St Marys but knowing he was faster I let him go. On the 2nd time up Hunter St i spied a CR hat and wondered who it was kept trying hard to find out and discovered it was LuckyLegs, I chased her and finally caught up as we entered the domain, from there she and I battled it out with me leading but stopping to get a drink which meant she had a 100m break on me she is one tough competitor! Finally caught her again but she caught me on the bend before Hyde Park and she never looked back, beaten by an 80 year old
Never saw Thomo but now knowing his superfast time I know why, and he told us he was injured imagine how fast he could run if he wasn't.
Caught up with Slowmo after the race comparing brightly coloured shorts, I even had someone call my number out and said they loved them. Saw the Criniti clan and offered my congrats. Loved the people with the signs about zoombies
Felt completely exhausted and slept for some of the afternoon, now have to have some in reserve for SMC 25km

I reckon I've run around 30 halfs and have only ever broken 96 once. With 2k to go I knew it was going to be my second fastest time ever, doing the sums I came up with a 95.xx. Just wish the brain was working properly, I might have found an extra gear. Crossed the line in 94.11, missing the PB (set in 2005) by just 8 seconds.
What a top day Sydney turned on, couldn't have asked for better conditions.
As usual it was so good to catch up with everyone. There sure were some great performances. Well done all.

Yeah, texta came off in the nice loooong hot shower I had when I got home!
Net time was 2:02:57, a PB! So will aim for under 2:00:00 at the Hunter Valley HM!!

10km 1:01:18
20km 1:41:13
Finish 1:58:39
either way mean i had a good negative split which I was aiming for, 30secs/km quicker over the last 11.1 compared to the first 10. look forward to this even net year was a fantastic morning, though had me confused seeing the GU's being handed out for the first time at the the 19km mark.
good to see so many people got PB's

I think they are pointing to 2009's photos with the link.
They use the 2010 race number but it then links that to a previous SMH 1/2.
Edited to add my race bumber is 653 and that isn't me, that is currently showing. And yes I did run!!!
Hair is slightly different!!!!!!!!!!
Edited again, it could be the Ratdog curse.

Congratulations miraball - looks like you didn't need to worry about the cut-off time after all!
I enjoyed the run... well judging by the pain in my legs today I had nothing left by the end. I finished in just under 99mins - although with a 10km split of < 45min I committed the classic crime, started too fast. I knew it at 5km and tried to pull back, I think it was already too late! Glad that I pressed on and finished in a satisfactory time overall despite going too fast early.
One of the highlights for me was seeing Marty Dent running up Hunter St on lap 2 as I was running down. "Poetry in motion", he was faster up the hill than I was down.
Well done all.

G'day Thomo
Maybe the numbers are partially showing? e.g. if a bib number is 1234, but the runner is covering up the 1, then only 234 would be showing. So the runner with bib number 234 would have not only his/her photos but also the photo of bib number 234 as the 1 is covered up.
On a separate note, remember Les from the BTBS run? I think I saw him after the finish line
Well done on the run!

I didnt run a PB, but ran 1:46:15 which is quick for me and for that course! Last year I went 1:53:53, 2 months ago I ran a half mara in 1:55:46, so to go nearly 10 minutes faster is amazing!!!
Last year I hated the course, this year I loved it. Tells me a lot about my mental and physical states during each race!
I'll be back next year.....

Not sure what my time was - I think 2:04-ish (chip) would be 2:13-ish gun I suppose since the back of the pack took at least 6 mins to cross the start line. I had a great run for my 35km (ran to-from car parked in Leichhardt) which turned out avg pace 6:06 woohoo! 42.2 here I come!
Fossil you looked amazing when I saw you on George St just before us BOTP-ers turned into Argyle and the frontrunners came through with 15:53 or so on the clock - you weren't far behind them, that must have been just after the 5k mark.
Saw AaronR and sorepaws briefly at the end. I had been going to get some water or something in the recovery area but it was such a schemozzle that I just headed off home.
Hi Sook54...it was me you ran with....thanks for the encouraging and inspiring words at the start of the race. I was telling my friends how impressed I was with you. This was my 7th half marathon and my first SMH Half marathon. I was so scared of not meeting the cut off after missing 4 weeks of training for various reasons (illness, work commitments, travel, etc). I am glad to finish it within cut off. No PB for me but did not deliver my slowest half either so I am stoked about it. It was great to see Emma (who I have been seeing doing the Blackmores Half since 2007) and a few other CRs on the way....Feet and legs are still painful but I am slowly thinking of doing this race again next year....it was a great race!

I am currently injured and VERY frustrated being on the sidelines.... I was on Hunter street volunteering on Sunday.
It was magnificent to see the support from the sidelines and the numbers involved in this brilliantly organised event.
To the place getters YOU were magnificent and an excellent example to our sport of running. keep it up.
To everyone else, YOU WERE BRILLIANT because you had a go and went out there to enjoy yourselves (to those suffering in Hunter St I don't think you were enjoying it but you did yourselves proud).
once again CONGRATULATIONS.
I hope to be back for the Woodford to Glenbrook Classic. see you then

I sorted out the number business. No pictures of me even using the broader search thing. However the video picks me up. Haircut needed and running form improve. Showed that I was cramping and my knee lift doesn't exist.
Would of been great to have caught up with you and Les.
