We were absolutely thrilled with the turn out this morning for the inaugural Melbourne Parkrun at Albert Park. Last night we had 150 registrations and almost 70 of those turned out to run this morning which far exceeded our expectations.
Us volunteers were a little nervous at first but happily everything ran like clockwork and despite the weather we had a great atmosphere down around the lake.
I got to ride lead out on my bike which let me get back nice and quickly to cheer all the runners home.
Well done to everyone who got out there for a refreshing run in the rain this morning, it will be great to see this grow over the summer.

I didn't know about them before I left for Oz 4 years ago so still haven't run one yet but hear all about them on MarathonTalk.
Looking forward to trying one out when I am back at xmas.
I hope we get one in Sydney soon

We have over 250 registrations now and would love to see more people heading down to Albert Park to have a go next week, don't forget your barcodes!! If you are wondering what to do with your barcode you may find it helpful to laminate it with some clear contact and then pin it to your shirt or shorts, this will help keep it from getting sweaty and disintegrating.

Many things to like about this, besides being a free event I also had an email notification from Parkrun re my time, overall/age group placing and age grade % value (which placed me closer to the top) by the time I got home.
Met up with several friends (and added bonus) and topped the day off by incorporating my long run (33.5 k's) into the morning event.
Well done Parkrun. Unfortunately, due to the Grande Prix no races for a fortnight but I'll be back then.

I love Parkrun as well! Gives me motivation to get out of bed on Saturday, instead of me succumbing to snoozing. Gets my weekend off on the right note! There's no Parkrun this weekend, but there is a Tan time trial held by the crosbie crew 9am.

If Parkrun has been on your to do list then print out that barcode and come for a run with us and set your Diamond Jubilee PB.
Serious respect will be given to anyone who can do it it in a Tiara, a nice frock and sensible heels.

Actually thought the conditions weren't too bad. Pretty ordinary weather on the drive in, and after we got home, but during the run it was OK. A little drizzle, and a bit of a headwind in the last 500m, but after all it is Albert Park (and I never run fast there).
Managed my first podium finish, but the time wasn't particularly impressive.
I'll be back next week for another hit out.

It was my first run at parkrun, I will be there regularly now as i try to get my fitness back from a 7 week layoff
Posted 19 August 2012 - 07:40 PM
I'm a big guy (6ft5) so any wind is bad!
The positive side of me always thinks it could have been worse.
PS Congrats on your PB.

Running these weekly will give me a good gauge on how my fitness is going as I return from injury.
Last week I ran 20:26, hopefully this week I can get under 20mins. Still a long way off my best of 17:18
Posted 25 August 2012 - 09:48 AM
Thats no good.
The conditions were much better than last week, good for a fast run. I ended up running 19:30, about 55sec quicker than last week. Still over 2mins off my best though.
Next weeks target sub 19mins.

It was nice to meet some of you and to have coffee after. It was an enjoyable run and I was really pleased with my 2nd best parkrun time of 7 parkruns on a course new to me and when I wasnt wearing a watch.
It was good to have someone running with me when I started and was last and good to see a 30 Minute Pacer.
I have recently joined a Facebook Group called five30runners for runners aiming to achieve 30 Minutes or somewhere between 32.30 and 27.30 it is a Facebook page for people - future runners, back of the pack runners, walkers - parkrunners wanting to break 32:30 - 27:30 - 5km's in 30mins. Not everyone can achieve Under 20 Minutes for their 5ks.
30 Minutes for 5ks is still a way off for me but I am working towards it.
It was great to finish my parkrun and see Katoomba NSW Coolrunner The Rev had also participated, also good to see his name in the newspaper on Monday mentioned for his unusual footwear.
I had a great City to Sea, last year I did 2.09.58 and this year 2.01.13. I am hoping I can return next year and do under 2 hours and visit parkrun again.
Thank You to everyone who made my weekend so enjoyable

I went to the parkrun in Melbourne yesterday and it was so much fun. There was a warm up at the start and stretches at the end. Everyone was so friendly, they took all the first timers and told us what to do, that lady was very helpful. I walked and ran, it was a little hot but I finished and I even got a cheer at the end. It would be good to see more people my pace down there, I'll keep going and encourage my friends to join me, it's a great way to improve and meet new people. Thank you parkrun. I'll be back
