Sound like a great run. I have been training with a few others for 6ft on Sunday morns but if they aren't running on the 4th then I wouldn't mind having a run on the 3rd. I'll know after we run this Sun at Martinsville.
Cheers,
Grahame

G'day Grahame. Good luck for Six Foot, I'll see you there!
No worries if you can't make it on Sat. We'll have to line up a run another time.
I conquered Brokenback Mountain a couple weeks back. Parked near Tinklers Winery & ran up to the towers & back. Cracking views from the top! Would love to explore more around that area.

Good luck for 6ft yourself. I'm way back in wave 5 so you will probably have finished, showered & driven back up home by the time I finish.
I haven't run up that way yet but yeah the view is great. The old King of the Mountain used to go from Cessnock up & over the mountain past Bimbadeen lookout on the road but they have tarred most of it now & it gets very busy so that's why they moved to Sugarloaf. There's endless trail runs out the back of Cessnock (Kitchener, Aberdare, etc) so maybe you can visit for a run around there sometime.
You & Otisr have fun on Sat. I am running at Wangi on Sun morn with some breaky afterwards as a bit of a final social gathering for the running group.
Cheers,
Grahame

I've recently move to Newcastle from Sydney and have been out hitting the trails in preparation for 6 Foot as well.
Been loving Bathers Way, Glenrock and Fernleigh, but haven't made it any further out.
Would have been great to have been on this FatAss, but obviously a little late to the party.
Keen to meet up for a run in the next few weeks for some trails though, recovery dependant!
Let me know when you're next out, would love to tag along.
Dunk
Look out for a black on black runn

We can probably organise something through here after 6ft. Newcastlecrosscountry.org.au kicks off on Sat 31st March if you're interested in something regular & organised. Newcastlevac.com also run every Tues evening & a lot of the cross country runners use this for a bit of speedwork. My local cross country club runs during summer so only has a few weeks left.

Cheers Grahame. Really enjoyed the run back to Newy from Teralba. It was a beautiful cloudy, calm morning. Pretty wet on the bush trails as expected but a great, varied run. Here are some pics.
Definitely keen to do it again soon. Plus I'd also be keen to try Teralba out to Heaton Lookout/Servo. Again, good luck & will look out for you on Sat.

G'day Dunk. Great to hear from you & welcome to Newy! Sorry we missed you on the weekend. You'll have to join us for the next one.
We'll definitely have to catch up for a local trail run soon. Via this forum is a great way to plan runs, plus also check out the Newcastle Trail Running Facebook Group. Folk are often talking up runs through Glenrock & beyond. Otherwise, Grahame's suggestions are spot on.
By the way, love the 'Out and Back Blog'...looks great!

No worries Otisr. I was still looking around in hope for a makeshift drink station around the Flaggy Creek section...!
All the best for Sat. I'm in Wave 2 and hoping that's the only 'wave' we have to contend with on the day. This footage of the Cox's river from the weekend is pretty wild.
Cheers,
Robbo

Thanks for the heads up on the running groups. Im usually down in Sydney on Tuesday evenings so that rules out the Vets, however i'll definitely be heading down to the CC club for a longer run or two.
Robbo,
Fantastic to know there's an active group on Facebook organising trail runs. I've signed up and will be keenly following when you next out back.
And glad you liked the blog, it keeps me accountable when it comes to training and i get to share the experiences with my mates around Australia (hopefully it'll convince a couple of them to come on the longer runs!)
See you guys at 6 foot, i'll be running in wave 2...

Running Wave 3 - Number 494. I will be wearing my trusty old CR cap. Has Otis on the back in black pen.
I have been running trails in the Kahibah and fernleigh area for a few years now, and would love some company on some longer runs. My goal is the GNW 100m in November, this year 2012 will be my fifth, and i will be aiming for sub 28hrs.
Each weekend i head out one morning to do a longer run on the GNW , anything from 3 - 5hrs and will be doing longer in the later part of the year as i prep for GNW.
I do the newcastle Vets each Tuesday - great races over varying distances from 800m to 5km. I find it good for the speed work. Have been training sometimes with a partner as we try to nudge that sub 3hr marathon goal. I might give it a try this year at GC but if i dont get it i will just keep on trying. Love anything from 5km to 173km, and especially trails. Go to the syd, melb, hv and SW rocks marathons each year . As i live near to Glenrock, i do a few runs through there - one starts at Glenrock car aprk, through the park, onto Scenoc Drive via the coast and then out to Highway , down Kotara and back up Madison - gotta love those hills.
Keen to catch up on Saturday - bring the snorkel and flippers as it could be fun down at Cox's. My fourth race here, and still like it very much.
