[Sir Runalot]

While reading the Poor Man's Comrades thread I thought about Manly to Palm Beach and so went looking for a thread as it is sooner. No luck - so here it is!

Anyone planning to do this great event on May 22? I have it in my calendar as it was such a great long training run. Lots of options for distances between 30km and 60km.

Details here, everything is still applicable though it still has the 2009 date listed.

Oh how strange - I was also thinking of this run earlier today too and wondering when it might be this year.

Hope to be there again - not sure quite what distance I will run just yet, depends on how I pull up from the Wild Endurance at the beginning of May.

Thanks for starting the thread Sir Runalot. I have been a little slack getting this one going this year.

Regarding the date...

I penciled this run in for the 22nd May this year however I am re-thinking this. The two options are the 22nd and 29th May. 22nd allows 3 weeks recovery before PMC however it clashes with SMC (as I have been told) and a new fun run in Manly on the 23rd that I wanted to run. It also allows an extra week for those who wanted to do the North Face 100 as well as this one. I am not planning to run PMC so the 29th is my favoured date.   It has been pencilled in for the 22nd for some time, so if there is a bunch of people out there (especially previous finishes and thread starters - Sir Runalot) who really want to run on the 22nd, we will lock that date in. I don't want to put people out by changing the date at such late notice. If not, the 29th it is. I have updated the fatass page with the 29th at this stage.

Regarding maps...

The old ones weren't great so I have updated them. Please see the fatass page for deatils. No maps will be given out on the day (please note Spud) and there are a few spots where you can get lost although you can't get too lost if you keep the sea on the correct side of you.

Re beer...

I will try and twist the arm of Mrs Hamburglar to bring down some cold ones in an esky so we can dangle our feet in the ocean and relax.

After missing out the past 2 years, I will be aiming to breeak 6 hours. I will have to think of something special for anyone who can break the course record of 4:59.

I am keen - although its a bit far out to say if any date is doable or not. I'd be aiming for the out and back, in prep for the Palm Beach to Coogee adventure planned for September. For an "urban" run, there are lots of tracks, a bit of rock climbing, alley ways and beach promondades to enjoy also!  Maybe Alf Stewart could put on a quick beer at the Summer Bay Lifesaving Club house at the turn around point for us? And tell us to "rack off you flamin' mongrels..." if we are lucky.

Is there any reason why it's on a Sat instead of a Sunday?  I'd be keen to do it (my usual Sunday run incorporates the same route but turning at North Narrabeen SLSC) but can't make Saturday mornings because of kids sport.

I'm in. It's conveniently placed in my 135km training week for the Sri Chinmoy 24hr in June, so perfect timing!

I can make either the 22nd or the 29th, I am not running NF but do hope to run PMC.  Sunday would always ease the stresses in getting to runs as it avoids kids sport although I am caught on Sundays as well with AFL!!

Nearly killed them this morning taking them to Shelly Beach return. I don't think they will need walking for a while

In my current typical bandit fashion I am planning on running this one tomorrow trailing speedy Marie.

If Bandana does the full 80km that's very impressive.

Thanks Hamburglar, it certainly was a great day for it! Beautiful ocean scenery, those people on the northern beaches have it good  

Awesome route, used the map a couple of times. Fun crossing the Mona Vale golf course, ducking low flying balls.

Actually only ended up doing 50km in just over 5 hours, felt great, but a friend of mine was waiting for me at Barrenjoey Road on the way back with the promise of beer and food at her place. A  great training run and which is now my favourite!

I have had been talking to Hamburglar and I am thinking of meeting him at Palm beach then running back to Manly

Hopefully he will slow down to my pace (slow) as he would have already completed 30km

I'm only in for the 30k, anyone keen to do the carswap with me so I can leave my car at Palm Beach? Otherwise I'll just park at Manly and get the bus back at the end.

Forecast is for 'cool with a shower or two', so bring something more than a t-shirt! I remember it was a wet and windy day last year. You can guarantee those two showers will fall on us.

I am very keen to do this run this weekend, but Saturday mornings are devoted to children and sport. I can't get out of it, alas! I guess I'll do it on my own, with Lorax hopefully, on Sunday. If anyone else can't make it on Saturday, ping me and we can meet up for a second wave on Sunday.

Are you planning on doing the whole 60, or just the 30 PinkSkirt?

I'm still pretty keen to do this one again. Having transport issues though (wife needs our one and only car to ferry kids to various events), anyone heading to Manly from the upper North Shore (Hornsby to Turramurra area)? I will get myself to any nearby pick-up point like Pacific Hwy if it helps. Please reply (I'll keep an eye on this thread) or PM if you can help.

edit: BTW, anyone also doing oneway option and wanting a lift back to Manly can PM me and we'll organise something. I'll be aiming on doing 30km somewhere in the 2:10 mark.

Good work sailaway. 2.10 would be an awesome run on that course. It is surprisingly hilly!

I haven't decided what to run yet. Weather forecast is a shocker - 12 - 14 degrees and rain!

At this stage, most sports grounds are closed due to weather, which means no kids sport so I should be there on Saturday.  Of course this also means that the weather will be shocking.  Catch 22 and Sunday looks worse.  See you rain or shine.
