Just back from a unbelievable Marathon des Sables 2008 in Morocco and now keen to keep up my fitnesslevel.
Looking to get into a team for the Sydney Oxfam 2008. Willing to do this one in under 14 hrs or at least have this time as a goal.
Have a running friend who would also be available
Happy running
Markus

I was trying to get a team together and have just been advised that the "Minimum Fundraising Category has closed and teams that want to enter this catogory will have to register for the waitlist"

Bugger!

That seems strange, a quick scan of the teams list shows very few with the minimum amount as their goal.
They must have only a very small number of spots in this category.

But don't let it put you off. We had the minimum goal and without too much fuss we got a lot more in donations than originally thought. Still getting one or two donations well after the event.

Good luck for anyone entering. All the best for a trouble free preparation for the 'downhill' course this year!!

Yeah, I waited for Oxfam to answer one of my email before trying to register my own team and within about 10 hours of opening the registration the 300 'cheap' teamspots have been gone!
So now I just hope a team will need a fit runner closer to the event.
Cheers

You've got to be quick.

I missed out on one of the $1,000 cheap spots, so I tried to ring up for one of the $5,000 spots.

They've filled them. Now we're on another waitlist.

I suspect we might have a better chance of a start at PMC.

I just entered and am on the waitlist.

I talked to a lady from Oxfam and she couldn't believe the interest this year. Last year it took over a month to seel out and this year has taken only a few days.

Ultrarunning/walking is alive and well!

I have made it in for a 2nd attempt after having the team disintegrate at 87 km last year. Feel like this is one that needs to be crossed off that list of things to have completed.

Sounds very interesting...

How does one get involved with a team of individuals who have similar abilities / fitness..

I'd consider doing this with a team with similar abilities for a bit of fun and enjoy the training up to the event..

If anyone is pulling a team together drop me a message..

After having done the Brooklyn to Ku-ring-gai sections today, I think that you will find there are a couple of interesting hills    and some sharp technical downhills to test the quads and footing. I think that those teams that come unprepared will find the first 30km tough going. Train hard, train often.

Got to say, it felt weird running "reverse" for the first time.

Spotted at least 6 other teams out on the track, no doubt it will feel more like Pitt Street Mall as the event draws closer. Was quite enjoyable, splashing through the creeks and the puddles. Pulled off a couple of leeches too, coming into Cowan.

Dear Chris,
We can now confirm that all team places for the 2008 event have been filled.  We were able to offer places to a handful of waitlisted teams and these teams have all now confirmed their participation in this year’s event.  Unfortunately this means that regrettably we can now confirm that your team will not be offered a place due to our agreement with NSW National Parks limiting us to 500 teams on the trail.

hi guys
just thought i would put it out there, that i am keen to join a team. I am in melbourne but getting to the event is no probs.

i have done sydney in 2006 in a bad time of 20 hours something in an all girls team. i had a foot injury and walked
a massive amount instead of running.

i have just completed Oxfam Melb 2008 and we had a much better result of 14:51hrs (10th team).

so if there are any teams looking for a missing link, drop me a line.

Like all you guys, we tried to register a melbourne team a week after rego is opening but that was
not to be. i also have another female buddy(from my melb 08 team) who is keen to join a team also.

thanks

Firefly ;)

Just been wondering... what happens if the Spit bridge is up and there is another team hot on your tail... It would be a shame to have a lead taken away in these circumstances

Anyone looked into this?

Depends what you mean "looked into" ? I think the answer is : the bridge will go up & a team might be stuffed (so to speak). In the Paris - Roubaix professional bike race, the breakaway had to stop for a train - its all part of the fun & games.

I've already pointed out to one of the (hopeful) leading teams that the bridge goes up at 7.30 & 8.30 on a friday so there's a good chance they cold be close to that.

Bear in mind that what may be a hindrance for 1 team could be a godsend for another team.

I have not looked into it but I would be surprised if the organisers make any allowance for this.
Remember, its not officially a "race" and it could be difficult to arrange a time penalty system during the busy times when there may be a number of teams all stopped for the bridge. I think the non-competetive teams (the majority) would find it a bit strange to be held from restarting or have time added at the end. Then again, I think the year they held teams at a CP in Melbourne for weather or something, there were adjustments made to the final times. So maybe...

Anyway, its a good thought, to keep the opening times in mind and do your darndest to avoid them. At that point any delays will not be welcome.

We did the last two checkpoints to the finish on Sunday. What a beautiful morning! The last part of the course has some nice scenery, especially the back of Seaforth Oval! (Ourimbah!)  :p

Looking forward to race day.

Whippet and I have joined Team Telstra 295, looking at a 15hr ish finish.
Really looking forward to doing TW again, it's been 4yrs since I last ran this event.
Cracking course and in reverse this year too, should make for some fast times, given the first two stages are the toughest.

Does anybody know if they have a link for teams that are looking for a new runner.
I am think of offering to run with a team looking for a runner.

It is two weeks out form Glasshouse so it looks like a good lead up race.

So does anybody know of  a link.
I have looked on Trailwalker sydney site but can not find a link.

Well done girls, that's a mighty training effort!

Team All Night Zombies did 56km yesterday (Brooklyn to the Creative Arts High School on Bobbin Head Road and then bolted on 6km to Kitchener Road). A nice hitout on the toughest sections of the course. It certainly was a beautiful day.

Many thanks to Carmen and Jackson for kindly volunteering for crewing duties

Alternatively, Brick there are a few cancelled teams on offer... If we could get P E or T C or W G  or J M or whoever, we could get together a kickass team

Sorry Milov, but I'm racing Caboolture 24 Hour that weekend. Part of the grand plan for 2008.

I must say that reading this thread makes me wish I was doing Trailies.

Hey, it does start on the Friday. 15 hour finish, Mosman to airport, fly to Brissie...... Stop it, Paul! Not a good idea!  :p

Hi all,
I am a long time lurker who has finally taken the plunge.  The trigger for finally coming out of the closet is that I am in a TrailWalker team that is a man down due to a training mishap.

We are Team CIT #249. We are not what you would call experienced Ultra-runners, by any stretch of the imagination, with only Half Marathon and adventure racing experience to date.  That said we are keen and have been training hard with over 2500K’s on the trail (both day & night) between us & many more on the road. We are hoping for a finish well within our predicted 22 hours and this is based on a number of long runs on the trail including recently completing the first half of the course (Brooklyn to Bobbin Head Road)  in 9.5hours.

As we are well in advance of our “pledge” there is no obligation to raise additional funds” we are just looking for somebody who wants to join a fun, fit team of mates having a laugh whilst we “slowly” run 100ks.

So if you are looking to join a team and you think you fit the bill let me know.

Cheers
Rivz

Hey RR,

I have tried to send you a PM but they disabled or maybe you have not reached the required number of posts. Have a look on the Singlesboard for my profile and if you are keen you can contact me through there

Hey SlowManiac, it looks like they wont give me PM privileges until I show that I can be trusted.  No problem though one of our team will contact you this afternoon via the singlesboard.  I hope you live up to your name  :p
