Count me in for my first ever Sydney C2S :LMAO:

How does one go about getting entry into a half decent section when you have no prior results in the race?

Run a good time in another 10K or more race, and then contact the organisers asking to be put in red or green group and citing your form.

It has varied slightly from year to year, so check website when entries open for details.

I guess you must not have cut and pasted it.

Maybe you copied and pasted it?

Correct.  Some people to not understand the difference between 'running' and 'anniversary'.

This is just as funny as when I first read this from you.  Do you happen to read column8 on smh.com.au, where pedantry reigns supreme?

I do not.

I do however read "Cut & Paste" in the Australian, where the editor thinks he's a pedant but is not very good at it.

This is clearly illustrated by the name of the section ...

Stella, you can submit recent (1 or 2 year old) HM results when you enter and they'll put you in a group based on those results. I think a HM close to the 2hr mark should get you in the C2S red group (>60, <75min).

2010 is actually the 40th race of the City2Surf not the 40th 'anniversary'. This year it was the 39th race.
Check the link again, does not mention anniversary.

Not quite. See above. Anniversary and event/ race are different. 1971 was the 1st race and 1972 was the 1st anniversary.

Not now. It did.

This is the original wording:

"Get ready for the 40th anniversary next year. The 2010 race will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2010".

This is the current wording:

"Get ready for the 40th Sun Herald City2Surf next year. The 2010 race will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2010".

They changed it after I emailed them after this thread started.

This year is the 40th C2S and the organisers are doing lots of things to help celebrate that fact. They are trying to track down all of the past winners (or a family member to represent them), male and female. Does anyone know of any on this forum? Especially from the earlier years?

The female winner of the 1977 event is a very good friend of mine. What are the contact details of the particular organiser who's interested in getting in touch?

Great! Is that Georgina? You can email (or ask her to contact) city2surf@sunherald.com.au or call 1800 555 514 and ask for Rebecca. Not sure what is going to happen but I think that they should all be honoured in some way, right?

Like StellaBella, I'll be up for my first C2S this year. I used to travel up heartbreak hill every day when I lived in Sydney about 25 years ago; it'll be a new experience running (or doing something approximating running) up it on 8 Aug - see you all there!

Cheers, CG

stella im also hoping i can submit a race result and get into one of the better groups than right up the back.

sounds like the reyhdration session afterwards will make it all worth it. i want to see if tesso gets kicked out again :good:

You will for sure Julz, your half marathon times would get you a red bib start I think.

The expulsion of Tesso from the pub last year was an outrage but it was to the Publican's detriment.  If only he or she had known what a lucrative patron Tesso is...

Yes, a good day out, it being my birthday and all. Tim and I were marched out as well.  I told security after being asked to vacate the premises I was still standing on two legs and therefore perfectly capable of getting beers from the bar. Was then asked to do the "pick up coin while balancing on one leg" trick. Massive Fail  ;)

I saw the google car today with a very tall camera on it. I was just checking the google earth website and came across the 2008 City To Surf course. I just did a PB, 14klms covered in 4Minutes and 25 Seconds.

Never had a problem so far - various groups at various times by the sound of it - Our group have managed a good breakfast get together for the past 2 years, but not on the main street; back from the beach a few blocks. :good:

I got into C2S last year into the green group with a 1:59HM, my friend got into red with a 1:51HM so i would say the cut off is somewhere around there.
I am really looking forward to this race again this year, i would really like to get into the 60s, as i finished it in 72 flat last year

Now that's a silly question - of course there are drinks after. It's the whole point of running C2S so you can go to the Bondi hotel after and watch Tesso get chucked out! :(

I'll be lining up for my 35th C2S on the trot & wouldn't miss it for anything, not even for my own funeral. It is a fabulous event whether you are at the pointy end or a BOPper and brings the community together like nothing else. However, I was very disappointed last year because of the 'no alcohol' policy which was enforced by the police. We were told it was in place as a tool to force the homeless to leave he pavilion. I saw several runners & their friends get their liquor confiscated, even though they weren't harming anyone, while the 'homeless' were openly drinking Chateau Cardboard without fear. It put a real dampener on the day. I hope this ridiculous policy is dropped this year.

If you want a preferred group start it would be wise to get in earlier rather than later. They limit the field at 75,000ish. It has been reported as a sellout the last couple of years.

You make it sound like a bad thing if you miss out on a preferred start. I miss out on the preferred last so ask if I ask for a seeded start instead & got it. Second line from the front it was so cool.

Set in my calendar, training will begin in May giving me 12 weeks of training for it is this year no. one target.

Hi all,
I'm a running newbie, only really started last August, and didn't improve much until recently. I'm aiming just to finish the City2Surf as I've never run that distance before, so as long as I'm in front of the zimmerframes and buggies I don't mind where I start!  :D

I think this will be my 12th C2S - first was in 1995 which was the 25th anniversary - still have the Puma T-shirt - maybe bring it up to Syd and throw onto the bus shelter at the start.  Have missed a few including 2000 when they changed the date for the games.

This is a great fun-run.  We congregate after, cheer home mates then jog back to town.  We always beat those waiting for a bus.

See y'all there.

Ran it last year for the first time and started in the back of pack group. I'll be getting my entry in early this year, having qualified for the green bib start from last years time. Was so much fun last time, can't wait for this years event!

It's a great tradition for our family, as we moved to Sydney seven years ago on City 2 Surf day. (Imagine us walking up the hill from Trumper Oval to Edgecliff, still jet-lagged and confused, and seeing 70,000 people, dinosaurs, and superheros come charging up the hill -- we really wondered what we had gotten ourselves into!) So, I'll be there again this year, though if I run with my son again, I'm sure we'll be slow -- sampling every aid station and porta-loo along the way is de rigeur when you're 9 years old.

I'll be there. Red group start this year, hopefully less people to dodge than the blue group which had walkers and pram pushers in it (obviously couldn't read the rules).

Best start now preparing for the hills both up and down.

The experienced C2S runners find that they can do the second half much quicker. But you need to have the legs ready for pounding the downhills to the finish.

Me, I fit somewhere in the middle. I am experienced but not at the pointy end. I want to break 70 minutes this year. That would be a 11 minute improvement on last year.

Just need to get the body right.

I had a pounding last year.  Looking forward to a better result along the "top section" this year.  I didn;t realise Six Foot was good prep for C2S.  :D

Hoping to break 70 min this year as well. Starting in a better group with less people dodging should help...i hope  :D .
