As we sit in the chill of winter, we here in bmmc land know the time of warmth is approaching. As such it is now that we should issue invitations to come run by the moon light with us from Woodford to Glenbrook.

Who knows, maybe this year the train will make it past Springwood and we can all run the advertised course :)

Being determined by the Friday nearest the first full moon of spring. This year we shall depart Woodford station on Friday 9th September. With the aim once again to have groups gathered at the Glenbrook gate before the clock ticks into Saturday.

I will examine train times shortly to provide the usual options for the pace appropriate start groups.

It appears the moon has been kind and avoided all things Running Wild and Sydney marathon. Hope to see you on the 9th on behalf of bmmc.

How far would that be Mick? I'm tempted, though you might have to slow down a little for me to keep up ;)

We did it back in 2009 i think. Started at Wentworth Falls Station and out Kings Tableland, went down Ingar Fire trail to Bedford Creek and then up along to Woodford station. Can't rememeber how far it was. Rod the hornet was there, he''ll know for sure. There was a group of us. Not sure if anyone did it last year.

That would make it right on 50ks by my rough calculations.

Last year no one did the W'Falls option but 3 did Glenbrook to Glenbrook via Woodford. All went well for them except that our train never got past Springwood, along with the food/drink we were carrying for them. It was a hungry bunch climbing out of the causeway when we saw them :)

Berro is right.  It is a tick under 50km from Wenty Falls station to the Rangers Hut.  It is a good option, but that climb out of Bedford Ck and up Bedford Rd in the dark is a long slog.

I was shattered last year.  All I wanted was my red cordial that Berro was taking up for me and it was nowhere to be found.  We waited for about 30-45mins in the cold, not knowing there were train cancellations.  It was a long slow plod back to Glenbrook.

Shame you picked the same weekedn as Glasshouse 100 miler.
And we did have a great run last year not quiet the run we expected but we did not expect a guy to die on the train line either.
Was great to see more of your local trails Scam.

I'm guessing they 'picked' the closest Friday to full moon...can't do much about lunar cycle.

Enjoyed the run two years ago, may do it again if it fits with training.

hmm, sounds very temping. What time did you kick it off at Wenty?
Just trying to figure out what time I need to be out of work Friday arvo to get there. I think I'd just get the train up there. Car seems to hard, especially driving back knackered.

I've just had a look through old PM's but unfortunately can't find mention of a start time when we did Wenty to Glenbrook in '09. The Garmin measured 48.2k, and I took 5:09:55 to get to the Ranger Station. There was a little bit of hanging around when we got to Woodford Station, but not much.

Garth - You'd be a fair bit faster today than I was back then, but you'll need to work in with train timetables anyway, so may have 30 mins or so to work with in order to arrive at Glenbrook with everyone else. (Although if there's a decent roll up the finish times can be spread pretty wide)

I will check train times for Woodford start(s) tonight or tomorrow morning. Then any interested in the Wentworth Falls option can calculate from there.

Vstar,

Just found my Sportstracks file.  It shows we started at Wenty Falls 8:34pm and it took 2:18 to Woodford.  I am guessing this is out by an hour for day light saving adjust (dont know why but didnt think we started that late) and I dont think Berro would have started at 11pm as it is past his bedtime.  My total time was 5:07 to the rangers hut and again I dont remember finishing at 1:30am.

There is a 6:41 train at Glenbrook arriving at Wenty Falls at 7:29pm.  That would get you to Woodford by 9:45-10pm.
There are a 8:16pm and 9:13 trains at Glenbrook arriving at Woodford at 8:46 and 9:43pm.

I seem to remember a wave start with some setting off early and the faster runners hanging back for us.  From memory the aim was to make the Rangers Hut by 12 midnight, though some of us got there a bit later.

Hope this makes sense.

That would be right Rod, 7.34pm works as we met you and Mick etc at Woodofrd and headed off just before 10pm and Mick and I were 1.58 to the cause way. Mick was just ahead though as he pushed hard when I had to stop for a pee....would of had him covered otherwise in the tortoise like sprint to the finish.

Yep, 12:30am finish sounds right. I do remember some had already departed by the time we got to the Ranger Station.

Garth,

If you dont get a taker, instructions are easy.

Train to Wentworth Falls.  Run back along the GWH to Tablelands Rd and turn right.  Then head south to Queen Elizabeth Drive and head left down Ingar Fire Trail.  All the way down to Bedford Creek and then veer left and up the Bedford Ck Fire Trail to Woodford.  At the top where the RW aid station was, turn left and follow Bedford Road all the way down to Woodford Rail Station.

The Prince, Vstar or Sarge might be up for 48km.  Unfortunately, it will be off the radar for me.

Still, any other punters keen to keep me company?

Been a little side tracked organising outdoor rec trips for the gnomes, however it is now time to throw out some updated info for the Woodford 2 Glenbrook by night 2011.

Trains
Based on the understanding that this run is all about getting people to finish back at the rangers hut around midnight on the full moon. A quick glanse through the city rail time tables present the following options:

For those looking at around 3 to 3 1/2 hours we have,
Central 6:36
Glenbrook 7:42
Woodford 8:12

For those looking 2 1/2 to 3 hours we have,
Central 7:06
Glenbrook 8:16
Woodford 8:46

And for those thinking in and around 2hrs give or take a bit we have,
Central 8:09
Glenbrook 9:13
Woodford 9:43

Those looking to run the extended Wentworthfalls course I will leave it to you to figure out best times, however from memory the first train mentioned (or perhaps the one before) rings a bell from 2009 as the start time to try and link up at Woodford.

A quick scroll through starter seems to potentially have us with:
Scambullant
Dr Phil
Sleep Train
GarthMc (potential Wentworth Falls)
Nickelass
Rodthehornet
Mickyd (potential Wentworth Falls)
Sarge
Sailaway
Fred
B+
Colin
vstaR
Bernie G
Blue Dog

Others interested please add on, and dont forget the post run discussions at the gate. BYO what ever you wish.  :drinks:

Enjoy

This year we shall depart Woodford station on Friday 9th September.
Scam - there are probably only a few runs per year I can be arsed with and when I saw this thread I got very excited. Unfortunately I will have marked the Coastal Classic that very day (29km and that is likely beyond my capability already) and have an early start on Saturday 10th so unfortunately I will miss it (again). However I still have fond memories of 2009. Maybe I will make it next year. A top run and if anyone is wavering then JUST DO IT!

JoggerK, Sarge. Sorry to hear you can't make it. I know glasshouse wipes a few out as well.

Busy time of year with races every where so I'm going to just stick with letting the moon determine the date each year and hope as many can make it as possible.

Would have been great to have you all along. Particularly given local interest that seems to be building. I'm certain Fred is bringing an extended squad out this year.

Just spent 2 days in the National Park with snr gnomes and the place is beautiful at night right now. See those starting early at the gate and hopful plenty of faces on the train.

Enjoy :)

Gater Bullant will be there with his cast iron stomach. Planning to run the Wenty Falls tough bastard option with GarthMc and mickyd (maybe). Just Did It aka Franger Bullant (Dad) intends to partake in shared torment. 7-730pm departure from Wenty station with a view to arriving at Rangers hut by midnight seems feasible. Food and drink drop advisable.
Suggestions?
Much love Scam for organizing.

Gater,

Best idea for a drop - get some stuff together for us to take up on the train.  We can take it up late and either meet you at Woodford or leave food/drink in the small gazebo opposite the rail station.

I really should have no excuse given that the start is now in my backyard!

I will however blame NPWS for rescheduling the Coastal Classic on Saturday, so will have to give this a miss (regrettably). Have fun all and good on you scam for organising this.

Alas, I was looking forward after being part of the original group in 2009 and ten weeks ago when I saw you at W2G I was even contemplating the Wentforth Falls option, but I have been quite sick since including a stint in hospital and not yet cleared to run...both from blood parameter/infection and muscle damage level. Can't even join you for the beers because I shouldn't drink either.

Also the reason why there has been no sixfoot news as is normally the case at this time of year.

Hmmm hadn't thought about drops. Rod, maybe I can drop a bag at your house on my way up the mountain earlier in the day to take up to Woodford for me?

Gater, have you run it before? Jason from Glenbrooke is also keen to have a crack with us.
It just dawned on me that GaterBullant is Jason.................

Colin, that doesn't sound good mate! Hope you heal up quick and are back on your feet asap.

So it's 9.43pm at Woodford railway station. An out an back to Nepean Lookout would add an extra 10kms. If we went through Euroka you get even more kilometres in the run.
A Red hands cave variation is a more exciting bush run too. There's lots of good running in the lower BMNP
I'll try to be there

Change of plan, instead of trying to attempt the Wenty leg for the first time in the dark, GatorBullant and I are going to do G2W2G.

We'll leave Glenbrook at 7:30, and aim to be at Woodford to meet the bunch at 9:43, and run back with you all from there. Let me know if anyone else would like to join us   :friends:

Right.........

Change of plan again, I'm still feeling a bit banged up from my long run last weekend, so won't be doing the G2W2G.

Am still thinking about doing W2G with the rest of the bunch, but will make the call tomorrow when I see how I'm feeling.

Not sure if GaterBullant is going to push on without me on the long option, but probably best to send him a PM to check.

Hope to see you all up there and have this cloud clear!

I'm out boys and girls. Nice busted up groin and adductor so will not cope with the run. Enjoy yourself...especially the "full moon" run at some point.

Train safe

Thanks for the tip Rod. My plan is to start from Glenbrook station at 7pm but no later than 715pm.
I'll carry enough food for both trips and refill my bottles at Woodford where I hope to arrive by 915-930pm.
Then I'll run/stumble/roll back down with whomever.

So far I'm the only person confirmed for the 50km Glenbrook start option. Kieron is out.
My number is 0408 168 948 if anyone would like to arrange an alternate meet-up.

After a relatively comfortable Willy2Billy I'll be doing my longest bush run yet... at a leisurely pace.

To those on earlier trains or running up n back, I look forward to hearing the tale of the run on arrival at the gate. Will be sweeping again this year just to make sure no one spends longer than planned under the full moon.

Please feel free to open a drink as I pass the fire danger sign :)

Gater, so you'd expect to be at Rangers Hut around 7:10-7:25pm? If I'm there we can stumble back together, but don't wait for me.

Hey vstaR,
essentially run from Ranger's Hut around 705-720pm. Initially depart from station in case there are any first time visitors to Glenbrook.
I'll have my mobile with me so just give me a yell if you're only a few minutes late.
Regards, Gater

Ok Gater et al,

I'm booked in and ready to roll from the Rangers Hut  at 7.15pm.  Ran the full course last Friday night and had a real buzz sharing the track with a dozen tawny frog mouths leap frogging me trying to take advantage of my headlight hoping to catch an unsuspecting bush rodent up ahead. Track is fairly dry and in good conditions. Looking forward to the food, drinks and warm fire after a solid 50+km.
