I'm in..it'll be Perth Marathon no 7 for me..down to 3:05 last year and hoping to go at least 6 minutes faster this year. Bunbury first but then all guns blazing for this one. It's a fast course but that run back up the Kwinana freeway is always a test and it always takes an age from the narrows to home up into South Perth. Always feels uphill on the way back and downhill on the way out(it's all flat!)...anyway..I'll see you there...
keep running(for 42.2km) bk

I can't see anything. As they are sponsoring it and advertising you can enter via their site, it should be there or more prominent.

Ran the Perth 32km on Sun, tried a 4:15 km pace but faded over last 7km to record 2hrs 20 mins (4:23 pace).
Bit sore this morning but recovery 8km has helped.
Mulling over goal time at the moment, 4.30km pace for 3:10 finish feels achievable.
Or am I aiming to high?

Caulfield, your times are quite similar to mine, and I think 3:10 is definitely a target goal. I ran about the same time in the 32km two years ago, ran a 3:08 2 weeks after, and then ran 3:13 at Perth.

Hi Djefa,
Thanks for the feed back looks like I might be on track. Although I've heard strange things can happen in the last 10Ks!

Bunbury a week Sunday then it's time to focus on the blue ribbon marathon of the WA running calendar...you know who you are as if you're thinking of running the Perth marathon you should already be training...so let's hear how it's all going..
As I said earlier in this thread this will be my 7th Perth marathon and my first sub-3..hopefully the first of many on this course?

Build up is going well, although I am and will always be slow, I should be able to get in around the 4 hour mark.

Bunbury done and dusted...time for a day off tomorrow and then it's all guns blazing for Perth..Can't come fast enough for me but looking forward to a few "Hundred kilometre weeks" in between....Learnt a few lessons from Bunbury..there'll be no 10k race the week before this time, Perth is getting my undivided attention. Still to go sub-3 at Perth but have a funny feeling this year may be the one.....

Great work in Bunbury Kev (and everyone else), reading the build up on the Bunbury thread started getting my juices flowing for my first marathon attempt in the 3 and 1/2 weeks.
This week to be my biggest training week yet, hope to touch the 90km mark. My longest "long run" of 37km planned for Sat. I have been doing my long runs on a Sun morning after playing rugby on a Sat afternoon but want to run this one on relatively fresh legs. This Sat will be my last rugby game until after the marathon. Will be interesting to see how playing rugby after a 3hr run goes!!
I have played senior rugby for 18 years and never taken a month off during season before. I think I must be transissioning from Rugby player to Distance Runner!
Bring on 7.30am Sun 19 June 2011

Sorry but I'm a bit new to the whole relay thing....how does it work exactly? Do you have to make your own team of four or do you just relay with any random runner? Do you have a choice which distance you run? Sorry for all the questions....thanks you.

Spookie - I'm pretty sure you need to have your own team, and decide which of you will be doing which distance, as outline above. Check with the WAMC or pop into Runner's World and chat with Bob.

So we start at 7:30 I think and the kids start at 9 or 9:30.
Considering it will take me in the region of 4 hours, I will still be 2 hours away when the kids head out.
My 7 year old daughter is so excited to do this and has logged almost 20km so far, but I won't be able to run with her which means I will need to either find a responsible adult to accompany her or she will have to wait until I get near to the end before she can do her final 2km. If I did it that way and she just ran the last 2km with me to the finish, she probably wouldn't get her medal etc.
I'm not especially confident that she will just head out with a crowd of 1000 (not actually sure how many there will be
Not sure what the solution is though.

Hi BigBert
My daughter is 13, so will probably just sit and wait for me. Maybe we could arrange a creche?

Group running is the way to go! We had 8 runners at Bunbury on 2.50 pace (albeit one by one dropped off... next time with a bit more experience hopefully there will be more at the end!)
Me and Kev are driving the sub 2.50 bus... any takers to join? Think Biscuitman, makkas?, Liam?, clown? The more the merrier! The best marathon running is even pace and NO SLOWDOWN!

I'll check your brake lights as you drive off into the distance!
Any one keen to catch the 3.10 bus?

Hi Geoffa,
My wife will be at the start / finish area, but she won't be running along with my daughter. So your daughter is welcome to hang out with my support crew until you get in.

Thanks Big Bert
I'll make sure she has plenty of homework to do while she waits, although I'll be going for my usual sub-2 marathon, so she shouldn't have to wait long

Last Long (30km) Run tommorrow. Pushed out a 16km this morning at an average of 4m 12s pace.
Add to that no Rugby for the last 2 weeks and I'm feeling good for a tilt at my first 42.2
Hopefully have a decent taper planned, guess I will find out on the 19th.

Good running...4:12min/k is sub 3 pace....can you keep it up for 42.2K.? I reckon a sub 3:10 is well within your sights at the moment (4:30min/k average) ...let me know your average pace for your 30k tomorrow...anything sub 4:30min/k and it's game on...
I've been experimenting with my new Asics Piranha's racing flats all weekend..managed a 20k @ 4:07min/k average and felt great so will probably roll the dice and wear them for Perth..hopefully the calf muscles and hammy's will put up with the beating but they make a massive difference. For all those runners out there have a serious think about "race shoes" for the big day. They don't have to be racing flats but just something a little lighter to help make life easier. Make sure you try them before the big day and not everyone can run with shoes with little or no padding but if you can they reckon you'll save 3-5mins off your marathon time....Lately the Asics Kayano's have ,IMHO, got bigger and bigger and I've ditched them for Asics DS Trainers as my "training shoe". I can also use Asics DS Racers as these have also "grown" in the last few iterations. Not sure of Asics thinking behind this but by moving to a lighter model I have noticed my average speed has increased.... Please note this is my opinion and if you're happy with your trainers please don't feel you have to change because of my rantings!!

Beautiful morning for a run today (lets pray to the weather gods for the same again on the 19th).
Drove to the South Perth and started near Coco's and ran the course to Troy Park and back for a 30k hit out.
Finished in 2:06:44 (4:13 min/k)
10k splits were: 43:05 (4:18), 42:00 (4:12) & 41:39 (4:10)
Ran the last 2km at 4min/k.
Felt great and finished strong, big question is what will last 12km bring?
