Not sure on this whole Beer Bet conscription bit.

For me one of the keys for participation in the Beer Bet is active participation in Beer Bet thread/s. This of course also entails quite a bit of trash talk, sand bagging and general consistent build up for the day. There's probably a whole heap of able bodies out there that loosely fit the formal timed qualifications and smash us all one the day, but lets see the other side!

Beer Bet is the opposite of Fight Club, if you do not talk about Beer Bet then you are not part of it....

You're either committed to the whole thing, or just go away and run some crazy time anyway. I want to drink someone's beers that I've verbally dueled with over the whole build up and bested on the day!

I promise to maintain a degree of trash talking in the ensuing month, plus well underselling any training that I may or may not take part in.  :Shame On You:

Anyone who can run those Half & 10km times has no place in the Beer Bet.

BTW, you havent been training with this dude have you?, could explain a few things if you get my drift?

I would be happy for you to bring him along to our weekly Farm Cove session to help with his endurance if you like. I'll just include him on your invoice....sorta like a 2 for 1 package deal?
Fair go Walshy - entry criteria are surely set for a reason  :D

Johnbo is so full of cr@p... nothing wrong with him. He'll sandbag his way to the start line and then run a sub 4:30.

Just a pre-emptive general warning to all beer betters out there:

I think these two pommies have been having an offline chat ...

Ian will probably now try to muscle his way into the beer bet saying he has run only one marathon, his first, in only 3:09  (.....conveniently forgetting to mention that it was Fitzroy, and that he left Mick in his wake (who came 4th!))......He might try to sand bag his way in by 'throwing' the Glenbrook Marathon, but true talent will out.

Remember Beer bet is primarily for talentless hacks, who like to think they can out run and out fox, but generally end up injured, lame (and thats just the blogging) or spent....

I did notice how you were slowing down over the bridge, whilst I pretended to be keeping up, then branched away, breathlessly,  to take an alternative route to avoid being found out....

And much as i would love to be sandbagging my way to the start, I have decided to line up for the North Face marathon pairs next year as my main focus....fresh and injury free (I hope) No, I don't expect to be running the 100 km, because i am far too soft!

I will focus on running the marathon pairs instead, because I am far too fast (for a "geriatric"!)

Look forward to it!

We are called the JoCa's ...we were unable to do it last year as we were variously called / stranded overseas around that time, but were able to transfer our registration to a far more talented team.....Team MELLUM!....

Caleb has run six foot, I think, 4 times? He is a geriatric too though.

Has only managed to run it under 4:30 once and under 4:35 all other times,.... but we will do our very best ......

Now back to the beer bet.....

Maybe you & Johnbo should form a dream team,

Wouldn't want to be the second runner though as the likelihood of the first runner not making it to changeover would have to be fairly high.........

hardly left Mick in my wake... The only reason I managed to beat him was because I couldnt put up with his incessant non stop chatter. So not wanting to be rude i made a dash for it...

Let me just say, the fields are assembling nicely for the Beer Bet.  A few quality late entrants and all have assured me they will put their undivided attention to training, racing and sledging, not necessarily in that order.

Good mix of guys and girls.  Few surprise packets.  Plenty of pace up front gunning for a sub 4:30.  Plenty of guys/girls hoping to get thru the 5 hour barrier.

The big question is will Sub 50 step up to the plate???  Always very impressive on the 14k from City to Bondy, but can he withstand 4 months of pressure as the race favourite for a 45km race.    I can see him getting coached by his work colleague the Irish potato farmer, but will two laps of Manly Dam every weekend cut the mustard.

Will work out a few new prizes this year.........

Interim fields released early December once I know everyone has got a ticket.

Race favourite.....please.  :Shame On You:  You need to look somewhere else for that. Well out of shape. But I have heard that Hamburglar will be adopting a new training regieme in the new year....bound to try and keep it quiet. And don't discount the old Irish Potato farmer either........

Shut up Rod!

Anyway, what do you think about this...

I am wanting to nominate someone to the beer bet. His numbers are:

2007 - 4:48
2008 - 4:36

Marathon PB ( his only attempt in 2008) - 3:00:46
Half PB (2010) - 81:57
10k PB (2010) - 36:20

He is pretty fast, but hates running over 20k - especially in training. He is thinking about entering sixfoot, but thinks he may "concentrate of the shorter stuff" in 2011. If he commits to the race, he win win the beer bet however the chances of him doing a long run before race day are extremely slim.

Whatdoyoureckon???

What no nomination for me 'burglar! Scared you may get some real competition......

OK - consider yourself nominated...

For those that don't know my friend inhisshadow he is a cronic underperformer, yet very competitive. I am thinking the beer bet will bring the best (and worst) out of him.

The shadow is a very talanted runner but has a strong tendency to get injured, lose motivation and/or blows up on longer races. He is a virgin.

He is very quick with a 37:xx 10k, but will be easy pickings for beer betters. This poor sod of a man cannot convert his speed into anything longer. He has an 88:xx half marathon and two blow ups in 2 marathons. His first attempt was in 2007 - he ran a 3:48 or something after turning in 93 mins - kaboom!. This year was 3:29 after turning in 93 again - kaboom. He is getting serious lately and got Pat Carroll on his side, however I have no confidence that he will even finish sixfoot. My bet is that he will require a lift back in a fire truck, much like Tallgeoff.

Now this is more like it.  Fast runner, loves going out hard and crawling home.  And a 6ft virgin to boot.... The applicants dont get any better than this ladies and gentlemen.

After 6ft he will be forever known as 'fallinhishadow'.

Winning by crook sounds perfect. More than happy to get there by foul deed and deception than talent.

Won't make any difference to Sandbaggler, the only way he's going to go sub 4:30 at 6ft is if they lay some tar from Megalong Valley Road down to Cox's River.

Enough Talking.

An early opportunity for some of the new beer betters to show us their stuff, before the 01 January FATASS .....

Ran this in August 2009 in just 3:15 (with two of the current beer betters...they can out themselves ....)

Look I will even be kind enough to allow you to upload my runto your garmin. You can activiate Virtual Runner and I challenge you to beat me .....and post here Monday.

And then ran it again in the heat of 01 January 2010 in 3:35 (just behind Mick and Milov ....followed by Rod just behind me....Terry was sand bagging that day. I only just missed the ferry they were on, by 10 seconds....)

So its a good predictor of your likely form in March. (1. Mick 2. Terry. 3. Milov 4. Johnbo 5. Rod )

A good form reality check early in the season for all of you pretenders.

Then again it provides plenty of time for you to all to pick up your game, when you fail miserably .... and leaves you with no excuses come the big day.

And my personal emmisary, Caleb, will be there to keep you all honest!

Is it possible to get the heights and weights of all these fine fillies and stallions? We need to do the form guide for the BMI-adjusted stakes.

Is it possible to get the heights and weights of all these fine fillies and stallions? We need to do the form guide for the BMI-adjusted stakes.

The form will need to be age adjusted with pension status.   Make sure you leave 3 digits to track the age of some of these old hacks too.

About the only thing I think we need to worry about that selection is avoiding the mushroom clouds  :Shame On You:  that errupt going up Mini Mini, or possibly how to get in front of them before the stairs Nellie's as their banjo's will make overtaking difficult

It'll need adjusting for those that have had hip replacements as well.

No way Taff... I weighed in at 97.4kgs for Glasshouse... although I have shed a nice little portion since that rather large shock.

And as for the famous five, you have got to be joking... anyone who advertises the fact that they came 4th team last year is seriously vying for desperation stakes. I mean come on, fourth? It's not even a podium... someone told me that coming second is where it's all at....

You have to stay just far enough behind first to let them have their glory, but just in front of third to make them think they've got a chance and keep it interesting.

Maybe they should be known as Team Deliverance (cue the banjo) - but as you pointed out they don't actually deliver either..

If we're talking teams. then how about an "Inner West Flatlanders" vs "BMMC Banjo Players". Best 4 in each team counts and you have to have at least one of the fairer sex (ie. "a woman" to clarify for you mountain men). Total time for 4 best runners. No prisoners.

I know I have G covered.....

I fancy a Northern Beaches team. We'll descend from our million dollar penthouses and destroy the rest of you plebs.

I'll see most of you on the Black Range

Captain Slow - we'll easily make 2 teams, which the teams comp no doubt will be between,

With the combined strengths of the Northern beaches brotherhood - shall we be called - the "fantastic four", "justice league". "X-men"

No I think the "Extraordinary League of Gentlemen" will be most apt.

Also, sold the penthouse, i'm now in an estate......
