I'm guessing that when CR started way back when, all its members hailed from the East Coast (hell, *I* used to hail from the east coast!).

Having been a member for about a year though only actively participating in the forums since about March even I have noticed the large number of runners about from WA and SA... and the numbers seem to just grow and grow!

Anyway, with that in mind, I think it would be nice for both WA & SA to actually have a section for our own state's races in the "Running Races & Results" section eg "Races (WA)". It seems kind of silly that all our races, even those that are big for us eg Perth C2S, are lumped into the "other Australian Races" section.

Also, not just on an identity level but a practicality level, it will make it easier for new member's to identify which races (and CRs!) are in their state. (I know when I started posting I decided to start a post asking if anyone in Perth was out there!).

So my suggestion: Give SA & WA (if not the remaining state/Territory) their own piece of CR turf :)

he he he ! Stella...great minds think alike. Ive sent off, a couple of days ago, a email to CR requesting that the Adelaide marathon be included in the 'major Australian Races' section instead of the 'other races section'. I think that has been a growing interest and sustainability from SA and WA...which is fantastic for CR. My aim would obviously not become sectarian, but to remain as national as possible. The richness for me is the national unity that we have.
In SA Ive chatted with a couple of people about the possibility of having an SA CR calander posted somewhere so new and regular CRs can see what we are doing in SA e.g. the SA 5k Challenges, the trail runs we have, socials etc.
Its all good eh?

Oh! I hope it doesnt sound like I'm aiming to segregate the masses in any way! Its more that "Other Australian Races" gets pretty darn full... and some events from SA & WA perhaps deserve recognition in their own right (Adelaide Marathon as you say)... I just think it's 'neater' to have state by state options... but maybe I'm just anally retentive! Lol!

I love the fact that CR is national as well and I dont feel excluded as such, it's just purely on face value it looks a bit Eastern-centric.

CR events calendar is a good idea

I probably shld have just emailed but I'm afraid that didnt cross my mind!  :)

Stella I think this is an excellent point and you should send an email to info@coolrunning.com.au to request it. There have been other requests (not just from Frank).

The calendar already can be filtered by state - click on the calendar link in the main menu to the left and it will take you to a page where not only can you filter by state etc but you can also fill in a form to submit new things - like the SA CR challenge. The calendar section depends on CR members and race organisers to add the info via the form - process is then for moderators to review and approve the entries.

I have been thinking about this for quite a while. I think a separate SA & WA section is warranted.
Not sure about Adelaide Marathon though. Possibly....perhaps each state should have it's most famous event up there.

But a section for SA & WA races would be a bonus for sure..

Great idea Stella, it had crossed my mind also and it would certainly simplify things a bit and make it easier to find the appropriate races :)

I think this an excellent idea!  SA and WA should have their own section along with the other states.  I actually only noticed today that SA didn't have a section after someone posted about the Adelaide half in the half MM thread.

Although I now live in Melbourne, Perth is my home town so it would be great to be able to follow a thread purely for WA.  This way when I plan holidays, I could work around it  :)

Stella, Frank etc - Frank emailed during the week and I responded in an email at 3.00pm today ie an hour before your post.

I suggested a "Other Races (SA)" section. happy to do that also for WA. We are not anti-states its just that when there are a lot of threads it makes sense to create a section and until the last couple of weeks there hadn't been a lot.

I also suggested Frank become a moderator so he can re-file all previous SA threads into the right bucket.

I think that the Adelaide marathon, with approx one thread per year would fit in there. If we get 10-20 threads per year on ANY race then we can put it in Major Races. Happy to play it by ear. based on how many threads there are.

Yay SB - when I was following the perth marathon thread it was always with a little sense of disappointment that I had to chase it around in the "other races" section. I know it's not a packed event like GCM but hey, its the same distance.....

Run for the kids is Australias second biggest fun run but it's not under major australian races either.  I assumed thats because its generally covered in one thread-but the great train race does have it's own section as a major australian race.  A little off topic and not really important-I'm just curious as to the reasoning.

you know how it works - we make it up and adjust as we go along.
puffing billy had 11 threads this year. If any other race gets about the same number, for a few years in a row then we will create a new section for it.
run4 kids only had its second run this year - I have no idea how many threads it has. it just never hit my radar.
happy to create more sections - all we need is someone to suggest something - don't assume cr moderators know everything - we very clearly don't.

I have made a number of changes now. We are gradually moving the "other australian races" into the right sections then we will delete "other australian races"
let us know if you notice any weirdness.

Why not use this new found enthusiasm for some good - help put events on our calendar :

As opposed to the evil that we usually use it for?

Just joshing, we'll be sure to populate the calendar and, on behalf of my motley crew, thanks for the new section.

Great idea! although I am in Sydney but lived in Perth most of my life until I moved here 2 months ago. But yes, other states need their own sections for events and such. Why wouldn't you run if you live in those states? Lovely weather/scenery, much less traffic...among other things. But Sydney is great too! We are just in the lucky country. Hope the sections get created soon.

I'm slightly geographically challenged, but a few years ago part of WA seceded from the rest of Oz.  Frankly, I'm surprised your suburb has not yet been declared your Versailles.

Hi Colsy. Now we have state threads I moved ours to the SA CR box. To me it makes sense because they are unique to each state. They are easier to locate and  view.
I have raised this question previously with the mod team and asked if the other 5km challenges need to be placed appropriately. An answer should be forthcoming.
Cheers

Gees, give 'em an inch and they want a mile!

Well Balri...we are still peeved that Adelaide wasn't recognised as the Nations Capital...it should have been....when all is said and done we do have the Glorious River Torrens...and that should have clinched it for us....you can't blame us for wanting more....

Errr... Just noticed that our Run for Gold thread is now in both the WA Other and the Australian Other sections simulatneously!
Has the thread managed to break through some sort of space time continoum (however you spell that!) or do we have a slight hitch Houston?

(Still love you tho Frank!)
